Do You Know What Is Said In A Fijian Protocol?_Vlog 112

It’s been a while but welcome to our new vlog style. And they’re going to be LOOONNGGG! Today we take you to a few weeks ago when we took our friends Pela and Sti back to their late mother’s village (Koro Ni Vasu). Shopping for the visit, the journey, the protocols, the stories, and what it means to us Fijians to go back home to our roots. Thanks for joining, we appreciate every single one of you:) And if you want to support the brand hop online to our store and grab some apparel that represents our journey and what we stand for as WAKA.✌🏽

At the 32:22 minute mark is the music from a band named Vaga Drokadroka Ni Saqani (Green Parrot of Saqani) and the lead singer is Pela's uncle the high chief of Saqani who received our Sevusevu and was telling the story about the house. #hiddengem

Wowser a bonus !I was going to leave a comment about the fantastic editing and putting in that song from Vaga Drokadroka ni Saqani (an old skool fav sigidrigi group of mine)...then to later read in the comments that the Chief, Pela's uncle was the lead singer of the group. Just beautiful and what a awesome vlog. Thank you and vinaka vakalevu for the upload. This really made my day...Loloma tu yani, from a home sick Fijian in Colorado USA.

I loved what you said at the end about "Susu Madrai" which most of the kids are now days. There are more people living away from their villages now because of being successful people with their children being brought up in towns and cities. I was fortunate that we use to go for holidays at my grandparents farm in Lomaivuna. Thats how I knew about farming and we had the best time there because we had cousins and friends. I tip my hat to you for taking your family back to the village. Most of us aren't as courageous as you guys. Thanks for the video...brought back memories.

We fail to realize that without it, we would not even be in existence today. I'm sure Pela's mom would be all smiling seeing them fulfilling one of her last wishes. You guys just inspired so many fijians today. Great job Waka❤👏👏👏

Wow! This is so heart warming. We're fresh back from Fiji and were able to visit my village in Ra after 7 years. I was also able to introduce my husband (who isn't Fijian). It was amazing to witness a warm welcome and gratitude for our visit. To reconnect and witness how strong the family ties are, and reassured that this is our home and we are to never forget that- is something we don't see or experience living abroad. This hit close to home. Getting back to our roots definitely shifts or realigns something within. Highly recommend fam living abroad to take the time to connect with our roots. Thank you for sharing!

Isa loved this vlog very much, thank you for sharing. Very nostalgic yet informative vlog about our customs and traditions. Some protocols and traditions we witnessed growing up yet i took for granted. But now being the age where we're the adults having to perform these very protocols it hits different. Seeing Pela get nervous about his speech reminds me of cousins or uncles getting prepped to present or represent on behalf of the incoming guest. As much as i say im not traditional there are some aspects of my culture that is just incredibly sacred and beautiful and makes me feel at home. I lost it when the uncle started praying and blessing the guests😢 that was so heartwarming. Made me miss my Koro ni vasu and my family there. Continue the excellent work Waka fam and team!

This is truly beautiful! Pela's uncle, the chief, is indeed a cool dude. An impressive village. I'm astonished that in 1956 they imported timber for all those houses and other buildings. Mustve been quite a progressive village (given it's remoteness). And also astonishing that the houses have survived all these years. Thank you so much for sharing the sevusevu. Isa in Fiji the mother's side is so dearly respected even during a death, it is the mothers side who has the rights to handle the body until burial. It is customary duty of the maternal side to hold the deceased s body one last time just as a mother would do. The mother's side normally does the last reguregu after which they takeover the duty of care until the body laid. This custom was born from the idea of mother's love.
