You're absolutely right. I had a ZX14R and I traded it for a ZX10R. I immediately missed the 14, for all of the reasons you stated. They are just a dream to ride on the street. The ZX10R is not meant for the street, it is not comfortable. So I went back and bought another ZX14R and I intend to keep it forever. King of the streets - ZX14R. Legend.

Excellent video and agreed on all points.I might have mentioned before that my last 2 sport bikes were an 88 and 90 FZR1000 and they were comfortable but now the 1000's are too narrow focused for more track than street and they are not comfortable.I bought a new 14r last year and love it.It may not go around corners as quick as the Yamaha's but it's a small trade off on the pleasure of the all around ride.I live in south Florida and there are not that many curves here anyway, lol.Oh yes i almost forgot i'm 73 years old.Keep up the good work,Thanks.

I just picked one up three weeks ago, it's the best bike I have ever owned and very nimble in the turns, it's only a heavy-weight when you try and move it with your legs, otherwise, you don't feel it. When I hit the turns, it's on "L" mode, not as much power so the rear wheel is less likely to break traction. If you respect it, no problem, it will take care of you and it's a beast on the freeway as well.

What you're talking aboout, man? There' are still the Busa and the Z H2 around. Massive torque and horsepower. Sure, the rest are pure trackday weapons but as long as those two are available the war's not lost. The real problem is that there are no more riders around who've got the balls and the money. In a big city like Berlin I'm one of the very very few who not only own but really drive a Z H2.

I’d rather have a affordable 14r with updates. Quick shifter. Maybe a little less weight. Etc. I agree the new 1000cc crop is going the wrong way. We need to bring back the old school style liter bikes. They need to make them comfortable like the 2000ish bikes.

I think it's just all about fashion and the intimidation about the so-called heavyweights. I do not own a ZX-14 (but I' m definitely getting one); my girl is an FJR 1300. It's even heavier than the ZZR and people kept rumbling about how I can't possibly have any fun with it. Wrong!!! Other than that, I have fun more often with the torque than hp, and even my 2003 Fz1 gives me enough of both. Even now, if I get the cash together and a great deal on a ZX14, I might put off my plans for an R1 until later. And no apologies necessary for using the more fun half of the throttle on the ZZR. I'd almost would like you to do some longer pulls on it more often, but I doubt your legal system is anything but stricter than ours is here in the states.

Amazing bike, I bet they are also great for long distance cruising but I dont track or do long distance so a big bike would be pretty pointless for me, I'd only be able to use a small percentage of its performance if I wanted to stay out of jail. For a street bike I prefer middleweights as a sweet spot for useable performance on the street and my 23 MT09 SP Gen3 is plenty torquey and fast enough for me.. while also remaining light and flickeable to make them still good fun on the twisties, probably the best compromise if you can only own one bike and its main use is for the street. I'd love to experience something like a H2, Busa or ZXR14 at least once but I think I'd probably end up behind bars if I owned something that fast, my self control isnt what it should be. 😊

There will never be any updated replacements for the heavyweight bikes due to the increasing difficulty of complying to tighter and tighter emmisions rules. Look what that did to the Gen 3 Bussa, it should have retaken the crown but it couldn't. Honda is dropping the Gold Wing, many others have already been confined to history. Manufacturers can barely supply lesser capacity models and there appears to be a move towards smaller more economical capacity bikes. Unless you pre order it's difficult to get anything in the higher capacity range. Many are sold out and never actually reach showroom floors. I bought the last available ZZR 1400 in Europe, I can safely rest on my Laurels knowing that soon even in the States and other countries it will also be discontinued. Campaign to save motorcycling and even private car ownership and enjoyment before such pleasures also become confined to the history books. Speed limits are being reduced to a point where driving/riding will become a real chore. Save your freedoms and hang on to your bikes, it's all going to go Mad Max very soon!!

I recently rode all of the current Kawasaki Bikes and found the middle 400cc to 650cc bikes way more enjoyable to ride than the liter bikes and with gas prices reaching 5 to 7 dollars a gallon the liter bikes just don't make sense. Give me a comfortable smooth 400cc to 700 cc bike with great comfort , wind protection and belt drive etc for my commute and fun machine. None of the current top manufactures are making a perfect commute bike. The Honda NC750 is the best practical bike out there but chain drive? Put a belt drive on the NC750 and better suspension and cruise control and now you have something close to perfect.

ZeeEx? Surely ZedEx here in Blighty old chap? 😉 I don’t have a 14R but I do have the 12R and I love it.. It has a little more sport about it, but its still a big bike. It also has effortless grunt compared to my SRAD, ZXR or Blade… The ZX14R must be on another level again 👍🏼

Whoever is calling these Super Heavy Weights, or heavy at all needs a reality check. It's 140lbs over a stock R1M. Yamahas most track focused weapon. This is a more powerful, more torquey street monster that can comfortably tour 2 people. Plus it's easy to shed weight aswell. You can drop 40 pounds by switching exhaust. Another 20 or more with alloy or even carbon wheels. Unless you're a track athlete in the top 1% of riding skill, this will do everything and so much more than a super sport. I ride with my 600cc and 1000cc friends all the time. Never an issue to keep up in the turns and a burry them all in straight line speed. The ZX14r/ZZR1400 is the king of the street and I feel bad for anyone who won't have gotten the chance to experience it.

Love me some ZX14R. 1 thing that bugged me was he said before the 14 the Busa’s main competition was a blackbird. Ummm not even close. The busa was a lot faster. He also forgot about the 12R. That bike was a legit competitor depending on who you asked.

Hello, I totally agree, until now, no new bikes are able to replace these heavyweight bikes ! The H2 SE or SX, it is not the same : the power is not as linear as on the ZZR 1400. You have a difference under 6500 RPM and up. Unfortunately, except Suzuki which launched the new Hayabusa, the other manufacturers do nothing. And also, a lot of Hayabusa owners prefer the previous generation than the last one. To conclude, to ride this kind of heavyweight bikes, is also a symbol of rebellion against the system which wants us to abandon powerful and gasoline vehicles. They want us to abandon our cars, motorbikes etc… to go by public transportation, walking or bicycles but we don’t all live in cities ! And they want us to use “ecological vehicle” like electric cars or motorbikes but they are expensive and the battery not so efficient and the worst is batteries pollute more than petrol when it will be the time to recycle them ! So, yes, riding this kind of motorbikes is also a sign of rebellion against the system they want to impose to us under a false banner, a lie…. That is why I bought my new brand ZZR 1400 in 2020 before this model disappeared from the catalog because of the brew Euro norm. And last thing, with this kind of bike, you feel you have something under your ass 😉

What with camera cars everywhere and speed traps anywhere fun with corners and the price of fuel, I have a ninja 400 , fun, light, easy to take/ park anywhere. I have been riding since the late 1970s and have owned quite a few big bike's. When you get old you'll realise that huge bikes are not easy to own, move around, insurance, maintenance costs and they use as much fuel as a car, especially if you're being naughty.

Man you're on the wrong side of the road lol... I have a zx14 and I love it . I removed the secondary butterflies on mine and holy shit that made a world difference, just hang tf on. I'm getting ready to have mine dyno tuned by Chris moore. It is a gen1 so it's not quite as strong as the gen2 but mine runs exceptionally well. It made 191hp on the same dyno a 1397 busa made 187.

If money was no object I would have a zzr14 in my driveway, but unfortunately there's other things to consider like fuel consumption, insurance and parking manoeuvrability that make this a no go for me. Seems like the ideal bike to do a euro tour on.

I've had my ZX14 for a very long time, and I don't think I would ever want anything else. The only thing that would tempt me to switch is a supercharged ZX14 that will likely never be built.

First the use of the word motorcycle with the phrase “make sense” in the same sentence is hilarious. Motorcycles are objects of passion and desire so never make sense. I currently own a 02 VTX1800 and an 08 Concours14 (GTR1400), both heavy weights and polar opposite’s. They are both great passions of mine. So ride your ride.

The "Super heavyweight" sport touring machines like the Concours 14 (GTR 1400), the Triumph Trophy, and the Yamaha FJR also seem to be losing favor to the 900 - 1000 cc bikes like the Tracer 9 GT and the Versys 1000. Once you get much over 100 hp you really can't use it all on the street unless you're carrying a death wish.

Oh you can use all the power on the streets; just need patience until the traffic gaps appear and then twist and go … Because you cover so much ground, it only last for a few seconds.

I think that part of the problem is that the ZX14R platform is more than the average rider can handle, and it looks as if the newer riders are flocking to the liter bikes because of all the hype...driving the market in that direction. Younger riders are more interested in "looking cool" than being practical and thinking about things like long-ride ergonomics or neck-wrenching torque, unfortunately. However, none of those newer riders on their liter bikes ever challenge me when I'm on the 14R because they've "heard" rumors of its brutal and insensitive nature. haha

Never did make sense to me. My whole point of bikes to me was.lught fast and nimble. Big bikes are fast but handle like a fat buffalo. Give me a 400 to 600 four sport or standard any day. I get the thrill of super car acceleration, handling of a razor sharp light bike. I get plenty of grins leaving a light fast as flipping it around in corners at pretty fast clip.

The problem is these 1000cc bikes now days fill to small. The RC 51 I ride fills perfect size, not tiny filling like the new bikes. So my next bike will be a ZX 14. Just because it won't fill so small.

Do super weight motorcycles make sense anymore? The new super Busa with 370 hp, just said, hold my beer.. I can't ride pure sport bikes. There is something about the superheavy bikes that draws attention, they are large and have so many uses, the torque, the top speed, the looks. People say to me, is that a ninja? Yes, it's a beast and a lovely bike, what size is it? 1400. Wow that's the same as my car. Nothing else gest this reaction. I went on a modern Busa recently and the beast just feels more powerful, more comfy, I don't think I will ever get rid of the beast, unless something bigger and better comes out, speaking of which, now this is a conversation etween myself and a kawasaki dealership, story not confirmed.. I was told that in approximately 2 years, kawasaki will be bringing out a 1600cc it will be bigger and approximately faster than the 1400, if this is the case, a part exchange will probably be on the horizon, untill that day arrives, also price pending, 1400cc ninja for ever....
