Hockey has always been an upper middle class white persons sport. The difference is that there was still a chance for you to make it if you weren't one of those people. It's not that way now because the wealth disparity is worse than it ever has been and now we all have the internet to talk about how shitty it is that only rich kids get to play hockey because its so god damned expensive to play even rec hockey. Idk how the fuck my mom was able to afford it for me and I only played rec. In general sports get a shit load of funding, but they don't actually distribute the wealth they fucking horde it. If billionaire owners, Millionaire GMs and other insanely high paid executives that don't actually play the game weren't actively trying to horde as much of the income as possible as personal profit, that money could be redistributed into programs that help lower income gets get some gear and get a chance to play some fuckin puck. Everyone should get a chance to play whatever sport they enjoy. It sucks that hockey is kind of inherintely expensive to play because of the gear, but I don't think it has to be that way. I think a lot of gear gets overpriced anyway just because a certain company manufactures it, and I don't think that's right on any kind of moral level, but that is how capitalism works. Ultimately we have to start by trying to get more programs going that support kids getting into hockey.

I might be the only one but I think I would be pretty pissed if I was traded right before a game, and to make matters worse, in the middle of warm-ups. Especially for a game like the winter classic. I get that its not like winning the Stanley Cup but to get all the way there and be traded just before hitting the ice that would be annoying. Not many people get the opportunity to play a game like that, I would think that would be a pretty significant moment for some players just to have it ripped from you

  • @zalapski9399

Being a disciplined hard ass coach works if: 1) The players know you love and respect them, are honest with them, and have a good reason for your rules. If they think you’re a phony who has nonsensical rules, that don’t add to the success of the team, but they’re just rules to create empty authority, the players won’t play hard for you. This goes for youth hockey all the way to pros. 2) You win.

@@KashSheikh786 36 beers on the plane seems kind of arbitrary and stupid. If he wanted zero booze on team flights, like maybe if they have back to backs, then I can understand that (alcohol absolutely terrible for athletic performance). But limiting to 36 seems like a weird power move. Also if you’re gonna not allow unhealthy snacks but you yourself eating crap then that shows zero discipline on the part of Carlyle and strips credibility. Even though the coaches aren’t playing the game, crap food still hinders performance (brain function, energy, etc). Good players know when a coach’s tactics work, and when a team wins in spite of an idiot coach. Even if the player hates said coach, they can still respect their methods. I’m not saying Carlyle is 1 way or the other I don’t have a read on him.
