How Phil Kessel Hotdogged His Way to a Hall of Fame Career

Спорт

Phil Kessel has undoubtedly had a Hall of Fame career, but he took an unconventional route. With a diet consisting of hotdogs, Powerade, and Coca-Cola, it's wild how this man holds the NHL iron man streak.

    I liked Kessel on the Leafs. He was traded to TO to get shots on net , and he did just that. He was 3rd in league scoring one year and led them to the playoffs. So much hate towards him , I never liked it either. Then he wins the cup and brings it to sick kids hospital in Toronto. Yeah I'm a Fan of Kessel

    I would've never traded him. Imagine him on a line with Matthews and Marner. Fickle fans always seem to point fingers at guys who have supposed "attitude issues" or "softness" while ignoring the real issue. I guess we're all looking for the next Wendel. I remember 2BC's Johnny talking about "we've never seen Kessel get a real chance in the playoffs he could explode" when they traded him and then he went to Pittsburgh and was the runner up for the Smythe

    Like in Toronto, Phil was scapegoated in Pittsburgh. The claim is that he was traded to "send a message" to the locker room, but the reality is that Sid didn't want him on his line, Geno didn't want him on his line, and Phil wouldn't play the defense necessary from a member of the 3rd line - infuriating Sullivan - who was so frustrated with Phil that assistant coach Rick Tocchet earned the nickname, "The Kessel Whisperer," because he was the coach who could "get through to Phil."

  • @Outta-hz1ej

    @Outta-hz1ej

    Tocchet, actual NHLer over a thousand games over two thousand penalty minutes over 400 goals could get through to players while fringe NHLer Sully couldn't... interesting. Look how Pittsburgh's doing without Tocchet and look at Vancouver with him

  • @dhunter1133

    @dhunter1133

    5 ай бұрын

    @@Outta-hz1ej - I don't read anything deeper in Tocchet's ability to "get through to" Kessel during the Cup runs beyond "right person, right place, right time." Yes, Tocchet has Vancouver firing on all cylinders this year, but his previous coaching record is pretty mediocre, plus the two years he coached Kessel in Arizona were subpar years for Kessel. I do think Sully has lost the room in Pittsburgh, however. Would they be doing better if Tocchet was still on staff? I think so, but that's the way it goes.

All of the WI faithful were PISSED when their hometown kid decided to go to Minnesota instead of staying in his home state. The first game the Gophs played WI at home, he was booed very loudly every time he touched the puck. That is, until he scored and then he taunted the WI fans by holding his glove up to his ear. idk about hall of fame career. Ppg player for only 4 seasons, 2 seasons above ppg with 52 in 48 games and 92 in 82 games as his career high. Never reached 40 goals. Not known or his 200 ft game either. The only thing that distinguishes him from a lot of other guys that haven't got in the HoF is his iron man streak and I highly doubt that does it.
