I see two possibilities here: (a) Babcock is so old and weird that he truly had no idea that in this day and age, many players' photo rolls are likely to contain, in addition to pics of family and pets, some innocent but still embarrassing material no player would willingly share; OR (b) Babcock knows that many players' photo rolls are likely to contain embarrassing material no player would willingly share, and he wanted to know which guys had such material on their phones. Either way, it's dysfunctional and bizarre conduct.

Here’s the thing in my opinion. Ryan Whitney is right, the situation is a stain on the Jackets organization but an entire podcast was able to take down a scumbag coach but also detail an entire organization’s plans for the season. Like, if the players know something is up with Babcock, how are you not handling this internally? You’re gonna run to spitting Chiclets and fight your battle for you? Like, they’ll be another scum bag coach one day bud don’t worry, Ray Whitney and Bizz Nasty will handle it for you! If I’m any organization, I’m not wanting my players talking to them.

No big deal in the big picture, kinda like the Canucks and Boudreau drama of last season, you move on. Columbus is in a rebuild, hopefully it won't be as forever long as Edmonton's was.

assuming the narrative being peddled by some retired players that never played for Babcock is in any bit correct; Brendan Shanahan had to put up with all these interpersonal conflicts, bullying and apparently watching Franzen be attacked at the hands of Babcock for at least a season, then goes on to hire Babcock to maybe the largest nhl coaching contract ever at the time, backing this up by saying how great he is as a coach.

Asking to see photos of a family is at worst a misdemeanour, in fact, you knew the person had a "family" and they were happy to share with you. Where it gets bad is when a player might be uncomfortable sharing. For example, what if a player was gay and keeping it a secret? I'm sure he doesn't want to scroll through his phone with a guy he just met/hockey coach. That's probably not his first choice for baring his soul. The guys that decline in the eyes of Babcock then could be "hiding something", "not living right" or "not good family men" (those are his go-to lines). They then could draw his ire and go into his doghouse. In any event, it tells me that he believes his values are the ones everyone should have (ego) and hasn't grasped that things are different in 2023. I don't know that he will/should be fired. But his tactics for handling people are clearly off the mark. Frankie Corrado seems like a really nice dude and he says that there's no doubt Babcock is a great hockey coach, but his methods for dealing with human beings are lacking.

I’m 49 years old, played hockey since I was probably 4 years old! Played OHL, in Europe, obviously not at the level these guys (. Whitney, Commadore, etc) played, but understand the game, been coached by some elite coaches ( Maurice, Debor)! These tactics or mind games Babcock uses sound pretty stupid and don’t seem project that team brotherhood you need to be successful, but (and not defending him at all) he does seem to be a very successful coach. And I greatly respect guys like Ray Whitney, Bissonette, etc, because I know how fuckin hard it is to make it to that level. People don’t realize how difficult it is to make it to NHL and even harder to stay and have a career as long as these guys did. But (I could be wrong) Babcock is a very successful coach, am I wrong??

Anyone with a bone to pick with Babcock can deal with him face to face or in a Courtroom but no real man is going to crowdsources help to slander an enemy and destroy their lives that cowardly way. Good people go bad, good Apples have a shelf-life, it is what it is.

The irony that such an offense coach is so concerned with who is playing for him and their integrity is not lost on me. I’m glad that Whit and Biz brought this out into the open. If he’s doing it; he’s doing it. There’s no way around that and he can ask to see it, but it’s their right to say “No”, without any repercussions.

C'mon guys, one-size-fits-all protective cups don't even cut it in the AHL these days. It may be a sensitive topic, but if you want your new boys to be properly equipped, the coach has got to get 'er done, one way or the other. Phone photos? It could have been worse.
