Do masks WORK for COVID-19??

Are you tired of constantly hearing "vaccines, vaccines, vaccines", while NATURAL immunity is being ignored? Does it bother you that "robust studies" are required for some treatments, while other advice, rules or guidelines seem to have been picked at random?
Dr Kelly comments on issues that concern him about the current coronavirus pandemic / endemic. Topics mentioned include vaccine and natural immunity, mask wearing, boosters and the lack of good data for certain aspects of the disease monitoring. Note this is my thoughts based on available information and not medical advice.

    Is there a new push for an improved vaccine that actually works? Or masks. I'm sure masks can be effective in a controlled setting like a lab environment. The reason they don't work in reality is that we can take them off whenever we want. I use the n95 in my trade work for dust and poisons. I take it off when I'm not engaged in those activities not because I'm anti-mask, but because it's uncomfortable. Life is tough enough without a mask, and it's useful in certain situations, but it's ridiculous to demand people where them all the time. Even the politicians agree with this sentiment, they give themselves lots of leeway in how and when they wear their masks. It has less to do with controlling the virus than it has to do with social compliance.

I 've had family who were told to just go home and quarantine by md's. One ended up in the hospital and has recovered. Many Americans have just died at home. No longer. Joe’s deputy clowns now make that decision. Also, to add my negative opinion to what I regard as your kind but overly generous one regarding our current U.S. “leadership”: I don’t think these people-at least the ones at the top or their appointees-mean well AT ALL towards America or toward most Americans.

    Dr Kelly, I would love you to read the Bangladesh mask study pre-print more closely and comment on the following reported there: Age group 10-20: Masks showed no benefit Age group 20-30: Masks showed no benefit Age group 30-40: Masks showed no benefit Age group 40-50: Masks showed no benefit Age group 50-60: Masks showed no benefit > 65: Only paper masks where "proven benefit" literally just means a small 10% less answered yes to the subjective question "did you have flu like symptoms in the last 3 months?"

  • @CarbonIceland

    @CarbonIceland

    2 жыл бұрын

    To me this result, even if it was real appears truly small. The MSM and the scientific journal Nature spun the study as "the study proves masks work", Really? Isn't that incredible spin given the actual result? The fact that any possibility of a maybe small benefit was only in the > 65 cohort for one mask type (paper) makes me wonder why you even mention masks for kids in school in your commentary - if anything the data in the study suggests masking kids is completely unsupported by evidenced based medicine? I am also troubled that they did not use their antibody serology to either 1) ideally test all the study participants in both control and treatment arms. Or 2), if the number of antibody tests were prohibitively large, then randomly select an equally large subset of both arms for tests. Such sampling would have provided objective data to show effectiveness or the lack thereof. But no, it appears the researchers used a dubious subjective psychological pre-screening to justify testing more people from the control arm than from the paper mask arm. If you test more you will get more positives. Period. That does not mean the true incidence in one group is higher than in the other. It just means you tested one group more than the other. Yes, 10% more participants in the control arm age > 65 answered yes to a subjective question compared to the paper mask subset and that's why the researchers felt justified to test 10% more and find 10% more Covid positives in that subgroup. This is a suspect, and too subjective methodology. This aspect of the study protocol appears at best weak, if not flawed? The effect they found, even with this potential built-in bias, was still very small anyway. Let's be honest about these details and report the study and results accurately.

    Your interpretation of the results is not useful. If you told 1000 people to eat healthy and had another 1000 people who were not told to eat healthy, compared them in a few years, do you think you would have a useful conclusion about eating healthy after that? No, because people don't just change their lifestyle based on a stranger's recommendation, those who were already eating healthy will continue and those who don't eat healthy would continue their choice. In the study, they went about their lives even in the "mask" group wearing masks adherence was less than 50% by the researcher's own (biased) admission, and just like the pfizer vaks study there is no way to determine exposure level of separate communities and since infections (or antibodies) in all communities was a tiny percentage of the total population any difference in exposure could easily throw the results in any direction. If you use equipment correctly it works. You really don't need a randomized study to see if a physical object (mask) prevents other physical objects (infectious droplets) from moving through, it's just common sense, but don't expect a little surgical mask to filter all the air you breath if you spend a long time in a closed air environment with someone else who's infected. It's a prevention measure not a cure-all.

  • @CarbonIceland

    @CarbonIceland

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@gorkyd7912 I agree with your first paragraph above. Your first paragraph is in line with what some of the study's authors wrote. They basically said, "o.k. we did a large randomized trial on 300 000 people and were unable to prove any benefit for the vast majority of them, except just a very small benefit for one mask type for one subgroup, age > 65, but we speculate that if the 150 000 people in the masked arm of the trial were more obedient then maybe we would have seen more of an effect". Your thinking agree with the authors of the study itself. My point was just to be honest and precise about what the real result was. The commentary in the journal Nature, and most MSM reporting was that "large study PROVES that masks work" - I find that highly deceptive spin given what was really established. These journalists are playing propaganda. It does not belong in true journalism, it certainly does not belong in the journal Nature. Your second paragraph goes deeper. It reaches to a debate between schools in science. One side thinks you can do laboratory experiments on droplets and air flow, and add some math and simulations etc. and thus "prove masks work". The other school, the "evidence based medicine camp", believe that the only real test is statistically significant real world data. As many may know the pre-2019 consensus based on many studies of the latter kind was that masks do not meaningfully work for respiratory disease as an NPI in the general public. A 2020 Danish study had a consistent result to this earlier consensus for C19 specifically. This larger study conducted in Bangladesh also , in terms of its statistically demonstrated benefit, also came out consistent with the Danish study on C19, and the preponderance of the > 10 other population level studies for the efficacy of masks as NPI (for other diseases of the respiratory family).

    I'm amazed that enough people who had a loved one sick enough to be hospitalized, and knowing that that could result in death, weren't in the hospitals screaming at the doctors to try everything - that means any drug or form of treatment that might help save life. That we pre-determined that the only course of action was a ventilator, and we were unwilling to allow anything else is insanely appalling. But then again, it was equally appalling that loved ones were not even allowed into the hospitals to visit or advocate for family members. It's been one over-reaction after another, creating absolute destructive messes in their wake.

    I agree with you, many of the current mandates, guidelines, and rules are not logical. I do give the benefit of the doubt to the health authorities in many of the initial guidelines at early 2020, such as 6 feet separation, wear masks (when they did a 180 and said they did work), washing your hands, for example. However, a lot of time and I do not see using science to support the current guidelines and rules. For example, the mandates of masks for young children don't make sense. As far as I know, there is sufficient data showing the lack of effectiveness of masks in young children at school. It seems however, health authorities are simply happy enacting mandates, even if they do not have data to support them. Worse, they choose to ignore the data that doesn't fit with their narrative. Same with natural immunity, their excuses for ignoring it are ridiculous. Don't get me wrong. I believe in vaccines. I do wear good quality masks (two sometimes) when I am going to be indoors near others (but am over 60, know how to wear the masks, etc.). On the other hand, my two year old grand daughter is forced to wear a mask at preschool. The masks do not even fit her well. When I see her coming out with her classmates, most are wearing them wrong. I am sure there is zero benefit in that case. But authorities are happy to insist in masks in every school at any age.

Also, the definition of 'fully vaccinated' seems to not be what I would have expected. One definition of fully vaccinated being only the 60 day period following the 14 days after your second dose. Kind of a small window, if you ask me. Meaning that if you got your second dose 9 months ago, you have been in 'unvaccinated' status for 6 1/2 months now. Plus all the time before your 'second dose + 14 days'. Which also means you would need boosters every 60 days in order to maintain your 'fully...' status. Hard to believe.

    We are blessed not to be locked down or have many crazy people driving mask mandates in our area. So almost no one is wearing a mask any more. But many already are vaxed or had covid. But I think the biggest advantage is how up lifting it is just to feel somewhat like normal again. To see people's face and smiles. That alone has Got to add to the Reversal of a plandemic. Who Knows how many we lost to suicide. I heard some number in the states of 10,000 people lost to treatable cancers during the lockdown. Let's 🙏 pray this truly was Not generated and released upon the public. If it was then the punishment should fit the crimes. If that would even be possible...😢
