Ivermectin in Australia

New restrictions on prescribing ivermectin for COVID-19
www.tga.gov.au/media-release/...
(10 September 2021)
TGA, acting on the advice of the Advisory Committee for Medicines Scheduling
placed new restrictions on the prescribing of oral ivermectin.
General practitioners are now only able to prescribe ivermectin for TGA-approved conditions - scabies and certain parasitic infections
Certain specialists will be permitted to prescribe ivermectin for other unapproved indications if they believe it is appropriate for a particular patient
Ivermectin is not approved for use in COVID-19 in Australia
currently strongly discouraged by the National COVID Clinical Evidence Taskforce, the World Health Organisation and the US Food and Drug Administration
www.covid19treatmentguideline...
Recommendation
There is insufficient evidence for the COVID-19 Treatment Guidelines Panel (the Panel) to recommend either for or against the use of ivermectin for the treatment of COVID-19.
Firstly
there are a number of significant public health risks associated with taking ivermectin in an attempt to prevent COVID-19 infection rather than getting vaccinated
Individuals who believe that they are protected from infection by taking ivermectin may choose not to get tested or to seek medical care if they experience symptoms.
Doing so has the potential to spread the risk of COVID-19 infection throughout the community.
Secondly
the doses of ivermectin that are being advocated for use in unreliable social media posts and other sources for COVID-19 are significantly higher than those approved and found safe for scabies or parasite treatment.
These higher doses can be associated with serious adverse effects, including severe nausea, vomiting, dizziness, neurological effects such as dizziness, seizures and coma.

www.tga.gov.au/sites/default/...
BMJ
bestpractice.bmj.com/topics/e...
Untreated paracetamol poisoning may cause varying degrees of liver injury over the 2 to 4 days following ingestion, including fulminant hepatic failure.
Finally
there has been a 3-4-fold increased dispensing of ivermectin prescriptions in recent months, leading to national and local shortages for those who need the medicine for scabies and parasite infections
It is believed that this is due to recent prescribing and dispensing for unapproved uses, such as COVID-19.
Such shortages can disproportionately impact vulnerable people, including those in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
There is only one TGA approved oral ivermectin product, Stromectol ivermectin 3mg tablet blister pack
Indicated for the treatment of river blindness (onchocerciasis), threadworm of the intestines (intestinal strongyloidiasis) and scabies.
All medical practitioners can continue to prescribe oral ivermectin for the approved indications.
However, prescribing of oral ivermectin for indications that are not approved is now limited to certain specialists.
Onchocerciasis
www.who.int/news-room/fact-sh...
More than 99% of infected people live in 31 African countries. The disease also exists in some foci in Latin America and Yemen.

The main reason is because ivermectin does not work How do I know? Because after the Monash university study in April 2020 showed ivermectin worked in vitro on covid, numerous nations starting giving it to their people (even against the study's authors who said their research showed promise but otherwise needed further studies). One country that did this was Peru. Peru gave out so much ivermectin that people actually trying to study it's use could not find enough control samples of people with covid who didn't take it! Fact forward 20 months later and how's Peru gone? Oh yeah it has the highest covid death rate in the world. Funny how none of these pro-ivermectin nuts never mention Peru (or most of south America where ivermectin was widespread yet covid blew up)

Um…medical treatment is democratic? So I should seek medical advice from someone who has gotten the most likes on Facebook or KZread?Rather than the doctor with the best degrees, certifications, and fellowships from the best universities, and the most experience? The only study that has shown ANY effectiveness was proven to be a fake and another that was plagiarized from another study so it’s sound legit. It has zero effectiveness towards covid -proven by multiple studies in multiple countries. Another major problem with people taking it is IF IT DID HAVE AN EFFECT it’d have to be taken during the first week of the disease and people taking it on their own aren’t taking it until after the first week when their severe acute respiratory syndrome is worsening. I see not the slightest whisper of a suggestion of a tiny bit of help. Anywhere. Since it began. How about this: Vaccines rely for their effectiveness on your immune system. Right? Indisputable. The health of your immune system relies on certain mineral levels being adequate. Right? Indisputable. Typically our Vitamin D levels are below par. Right? Indisputable. I won't bother to go on.. see where I'm going? That line of publicity, reasoning and fact spreading could and would radically alter the scene and greatly enhance the ability of people to 'fight back'. And more. Australian politicians are best friends with big pharma and should be investigated. They care for money and power , not people. This is the problem of founding a country as a prison.

The consequences of this egregious mistake will include 1. driving patients on to the internet for unsupervised treatment 2. adding to the (probably justified) paranoia of of anti- government conspiracy theorists with all the pushback that entails (see Melbourne protests last weekend) 3. reducing the confidence of doctors in other and future TGA decisions (hint: it's not high currently).

I am not willing to go to any hospital in this country without a bodyguard, because of this issue of doctors doing what their medical association and the TGA tell them to do, even when they know it is wrong. The government is spending Au$50 Billion on 12 of these submarines. It is based on a nuclear-powered design but it is likely they will be diesel-electric subs. This is without an API, air-independent system that could greatly improve underwater range and time. A number of countries now have API, non-nuclear power systems. So far this looks like another Collins-type disaster. They ended up costing over Au$2 billion each. The government is also buying a US battle system for a French-designed submarine. This is a very bad decision. The US and French will be blaming each other while the Australian government forks out more money. Au$50 billion is just the starting cost. But like many other advanced military equipment, the costs will go up. The subs may be equipped with very large lithium battery system and Australia is one of the world's biggest suppliers of lithium. I would prefer a nuclear system. Australia is also one of the world's largest sources of Uranium and Thorium. I would like to see an MSR Thorium molten salt reactor. Though that is unlikely. Indonesia is developing some floating MSR reactors. Generation 4 nuclear reactors, like MSRs, are very interesting. We are now dependent on PWR, pressurized water reactors. And they have had some problems over the last 70 years. Generation reactors are fundamentally different from PWR reactors with built-in safety systems. Virtually no risk of meltdowns. Also potential for low cost, variable scale, cheap operation costs, and very clean. An MSR thorium-type reactor could operate on existing nuclear waste for many decades. A 375ml drinking filled with Thorium would have enough power to supply people with a lifetime supply of power. MSR reactors do not require high-pressure water cooling systems. Removing pressurized water from nuclear reactors greatly reduces risks. MSR reactors can deal with much higher temperatures than PWR, water-cooled reactors. And if molten salt leaks develop the salt would solidify outside of the reactor. If MSR systems do overheat they have a built-in automatic system to remove all the radioactive fuel from the reactor call safely. Basically, they do not meltdown. They also have other safe and low waste systems. The nuclear fuel waste left over would be much less than a 375mm can. And the fuel you put in it could also be waste. MSR reactors can reduce nuclear waste by converting it to energy. Current PWR reactors are huge, expensive costly difficult to build and highly inefficient with dirty and expensive enriched uranium fuel. PWR reactors only use up about 5% of Uranium. The expensive 95% costly uranium fuel is turned into dirty nuclear waste. But that 95% could be used in an MSR reactor. With much greater efficiency. PWR reactors use metal fuel rods that are prone to melting and only last a few years. Then the fuel rods are stored as nuclear waste.

After the Monash university study in April 2020 showed ivermectin worked in vitro on covid, numerous nations starting giving it to their people (even against the study's authors who said their research showed promise but otherwise needed further studies). One country that did this was Peru. Peru gave out so much ivermectin that people actually trying to study it's use could not find enough control samples of people with covid who didn't take it! Fact forward 20 months later and how's Peru gone? Oh yeah it has the highest covid death rate in the world. Unthinking disrespect, the cause of blood and chaos in society. If you don't like your chosen representatives vote them out. Advanced democracies' voter turn out rates are pathetic. Voter suppression and disinterest need to be fought, we get the governments we deserve. Blaming others is a cop out. Ask not for whom the bell tolls. Mandela's example of how to bring down a 300 year autocratic oligopoly has already been forgotten, just like Gandhi's forty years earlier when he toppled an Empire.

Three comments here: 1) as a European migrant, now dinky dye Aussie, I have always found the Australian officials treating the public as if we are all idiots or little children. Micro management is very popular amongst our officials, particularly when they don’t know what to do, as it is seen to be doing something. Having worked in health I remember that evidence base was always touted as religion. This nonsense was concocted by a group of medically trained people, or so they claim. Reason 1 and 2 are speculative, based on hearsay, not evidence! Reason 3 is rubbish, again not evidence. Basically, they don’t trust their own fully trained Doctors. 2) All this reminds me of the ever raging debate about Lyme disease. So called experts disputing that chronic Lyme exists, that a 2 week course of a bit of doxycycline is sufficient and if you’re still sick, it’s post Lyme disease, all in your head, or, my favourite, placebo. Research and evidence to the contrary was and is, suppressed. Doctors were disbarred, had to front medical boards for investigation, were threatened to have their licenses withdrawn. 3) there is, I believe, an ever widening abyss between government officials, frontline health workers and the public happening in Australia. This cannot help in the fight against Covid.

Thank you for calling out the Australian Government Department of Health TGA for its laughable stance and calls them "weird". Essentially, the Australian Government is saying they have no confidence in any of their MDs to treat and prescribe to patients properly as they see fit. They also cite drug shortages that may be needed for parasitic diseases that don't even exist in Australia! The narrative in their directives would be funny if it wasn't so serious, but it's hard not to laugh at this. The Australian Government has lost the plot and they are clearly in an ever-accelerating flat spin. Incompetent is a word I'd use and reflects a total lack of credible leadership. This is so insulting to all doctors practicing in Australia and the Government is becoming a worldwide laughing stock as it stumbles around attempting to pretend they know what they're doing. It's clear from these official TGA directives that they have no idea! Surely it's not an attempt at comedy?! Hello Australian Government. There is NO worldwide shortage of this drug! India and other countries have an enormous capacity to produce any amount of this proven drug, so please demonstrate a semblance of competence, get off your arses, and put in your friggin order for as much as is needed. Call ME if you like and I'll get back to you with a price, but I'll need the cheque to clear first before placing the order! And please don't be so condescending in your treatment of our medical professionals. MDs are not the idiots here, but tying their hands behind their backs in this manner only proves exactly where the idiocy lies.

This Australian spiel is a big pharma P.R. firm hand out. I have heard it in France and the UK almost word for word the same. There is nothing 'wierd' about it is totally logical. It is however sinister. The medico-political-media lobby behind the vaccines only policy know that you can fool all of the people some of the time etc. etc. They work on the principle that you can fool enough of the people long enough to achieve what they want. If the lawyers catch up with them, well its years down the line and put the fines down to expenses. Have a look at the opioid crisis in the US which is now finishing in court with fines all round including I understand for McKinsey currently advising the British and French government on how to get the plebs to accept vaccines. Big pharma are fighting a war not a battle to block the use of generics - out of patent cheap medines. Each year obviously there are more and more of them. I. and H. are just battles in the war. I. has been described as the new penicilin and could have multiple uses. At the same time it is known to be very safe. Therefore it is particularly dangerous to pharma profits and its use has to be sabotaged by any means. This Australian memo is just one example.

Wednesday night took 15 mg that's 5 tablets of ivermectin and 24 hours later already saw a improvement less body aches Thursday night I took 6 tablets 18 mg and its Friday morning my fever has broke my body aches nearly gone and I can get up without feeling dizzy, my oxygen levels have remained in the normal range and although I have a dry cough I'm not wheezing which is what I was initially worried about. Just because doctors may prescribe an appropriate dose of ivermectin doesn't mean the people taking it will use it in accordance with the guidelines. Paracetamol does not at all serve as a good analogue - there is no such comparably massive volume of misinformation pertaining to its usage online. 3.) The Australian Government isn't going to act to import ivermectin en masse simply because of an uptick in demand from people taking it for stupid reasons, and additionally, if other countries also have increased demand, which they do, there will be shortages regardless of any effort to import more of it. Don't take the stupidest interpretation of what you read and adopt it as your opinion, because you will continue to make stupid videos like this if you do. Perhaps the significant number of foolish ivermectin advocates in your audience, who I don't really blame you for - it seems all health KZreadrs attract them to some degree, are incentivising you to take a more uncritical view of the subject matter pertaining to it, in which case that is unfortunate.

Dear Dr. Campbell. As you point out, higher doses can be associated with serious adverse events. In the British National Formulary (10:27) the highest doses were 0.2mg/kg for two days. The FLCCC (through social media) was recommending 0.4-0.6 mg/kg for *five* days or longer, or a total exposure of *at least 5 to 7.5 times greater than the maximum approved total exposure* in the formulary. It seems pretty clear that the TGA in Australia was referring to (although not naming) the FLCCC, along with its affiliates and advocates around the world, who were and are pushing unsupportably high doses of IVM through social media.
