These videos are really useful. I have an old Yamaha SV-120 and I always wondered: Could the "hiss" that it makes when you turn up the integrated volume knob be solved by using it at low volume plus a preamp? Also I wonder which jack is better for using it directly with a guitar amp, the "phones" or the "line" output? I understand that they have different impedances but I don't know how much. Thanks!!!

I'm planning on getting the NS Design WAV5... will that require a preamp/DI and could you pls explain the signal chain too. Before I learned about a preamp, my usual signal chain is one Instrument to FX pedal and pedal to Amp. Thanks in advance

I see the comment below about the YEV-104 going into Boss ME 50. What about the YEV-105 into a Line 6 G10S and then into the Boss ME-80 and then the Fishman Loudbox Mini? Does that need a preamp or does the Boss have enough of one?

If you're using a G10S, then the ship has already sailed on using a preamp for impedance purposes. Are you getting 100% of the possible signal? Probably not. Is it close enough to be worth the convenience of being wireless? Almost definitely. To my ear, a YEV through a G10S into an ME80 and a Loudbox is a great little rig for not a lot of money.

It's not a preamp per se, but it can handle some pretty high impedances.
I usually run a YEV-104 straight into a BOSS ME-50 (multiFX board), perhaps I should be going into a pre-amp first... I assume the BOSS doesn't have one built in.

It has a 1 MegaOhm input, which isn't bad, but you might find you get a fatter, richer sound with an external preamp.
