Do I Cause My Own Suffering?

Do humans bring about their own suffering? Eckhart shares that economic structures are a reflection of the collective state of consciousness in humans, which is still largely rooted in the ego.
When structures created out of ego dissolve, the result is suffering. The good news: it is possible to use suffering as a call for wider awakening in the world.

Eckhart Tolle is widely recognized as one of the most original and inspiring spiritual teachers of our time. He travels and teaches throughout the world.
Eckhart is not aligned with any particular religion or tradition, but excludes none. His profound yet simple and practical teachings have helped thousands of people find inner peace, healing and greater fulfillment in their lives. At the core of his teachings lies the transformation of individual and collective human consciousness - a global spiritual awakening.
Eckhart Tolle is the author of The Power of Now, a #1 New York Times Bestseller, which has been translated into 32 languages and become one of the most influential spiritual books of our time.
In his most recent book, A New Earth, he shows how transcending our ego-based state of consciousness is not only essential to personal happiness, but also the key to ending conflict and suffering throughout the world.

Eckhart Tolle is one of my absolute heros. Even after listening to Alan Watts since I was a teenager, on the back end of a failed relationship I listened to the Power Of Now about 10 times, and it helped me transmute the suffering and grief into complete peace and joy, and inspired me to start my coaching practice and channel to help others.

I have a 9 year old son, and I really used to get a little upset with myself for bringing him into this world. My faith in humanity was so low and I didn't want him to suffer. But now, I feel he is here for an important reason and will help spread the love that so many of us need. Everything happens for a reason.

My fears came from seeing first hand what people do to other people, racism, hate crimes, gang violence, military being used for an agenda other than peace etc... All I could picture was how I'd feel if my son had to go through what I witnessed. It's an awesome/beautiful world, and a dangerous one too. Now, I'm just at a point of acceptance that I'm teaching him everything I can to assist his survival when I'm gone. Thanks for the words, I enjoy discussions like these.💯

A year ago, i remember walking down the river feeling so stressed and depressed about life, a year later i'm walking along the same walk but feeling calmer and having little moments of bliss. i know i must carry on this path, no going back. i'm going to be watching plenty of Eckhart from this point forward to help me on my path

Group think on a global scale. Yes we do cause our own suffering. No one can cause us to suffer, we have to take it on, identify with it, and own it as ours. If someone calls us fat, we only suffer when we provide value to it, own it and then attack ourselves. Emotional pain cannot be inflicted on us, we choose to cause ourselves to suffer...it is a masochistic way of life.

I'm about to have my first child in a few days, I am very excited to teach her (at her own accord) how to be present and accept what is. I've already seen change in my sister who was very much opposed to these types of teachings. But she has come to a point where suffering is more or less unbearable. She has however now turned more towards his teachings and started to read the Power of Now. Thanks Eckhart!

Some individuals do not learn from their suffering. They can hit rock bottom and still not get the "message." Unconscious. Those of us who are committed to consciousness, improving our lives, and making the world a better place have the upper hand and embrace our resiliency. My opinion.

You can accept suffering by understanding that it's a signal. When you go in the wrong direction you suffer. Every single one of us destroys the planet by our very own choices - most of them being unconscious. You think you need a large SUV? You probably need to bolster your ego with it. Most probably you don't even need a car in many places. I live in a very car and meat loving society yet I have chosen not to eat animal products or drive. I also don't fly despite this country having the most frequently traveling population. Yet I don't feel limited at all. I discovered lots of tasty foods as a vegan, I can walk 10km any day, I prefer to travel by train. All of these choices reduce my carbon footprint immensely and make me much healthier.

onreact Good to hear. There seems to be a disconnect between what a person reads online, and what that same person does in the real world to reduce their footprint.

Everything is as it should be... the “good” and the “bad”...there is no point in worrying about the future because you can’t stop it from happening. All you can do is accept the present moment and let go of trying to control the future. Hopefully your children will learn this truth as well.

I"m a little confused; where is the middle ground between accepting what is and fighting when there is injustice? In acceptance am I to sit back and watch torture and starvation? Or change it by resisting? fighting? or simply by accepting what is and a shift in my consciousness WILL change the collective to a more peaceful one-

Hey. I was in an accident 14 years ago, where my left arm went paralized, and ever since i experience extremly fantompains. So my question is: How do i work toward being present, when the pain is there constantly? I resently did some mushrooms and got realy paranoid and got axianty, when that was over i felt very aware, everything was more alive, like (trees, birds, water and so on) but i still get back to my old pain after a while, i feel like others that are close to me pull me back to uncousesness. Any suggestion on what to focus on in my progress?

The only reason that you suffer is because you are trying to manifest every single desire at the same time, and the only reason for time is so that you can manifest every single desire one moment at a time. When you put your faith in time and start to believe that with time everything that you want will happen, with time will happen.
