Brought my bike to the USA from Sweden this summer, and did almost 3 months of solo touring in the western states, from Arizona in the south to Montana in the north. Sometimes very remote. Living on my bike and camping every night, cooking my meals. Stayed only a handful nights at established camp grounds. Of the rest, more than half of it was in National Forests, BLM and dispersed. The remainder were in State- and National Parks. Saw a lot of wildlife, including black bear and grizzly, but not mountain lions and rattle snakes though warning signs read they were in the area. Just be bear aware. Did I have worries and anxieties before the trip? You bet! No backup except an emergency sat unit and a credit card, but that carries a long way I trusted. Being on the road , be open minded and approachable, and you will meet new friends and get to share company, meals and drinks with them. Had great conversations with people on the street too, almost on a daily basis. And even phone numbers etc if I would need assistance in case of break downs or whatever were handed to me by people I just met! If I could do it at 65 years of age so can almost anyone else. Just follow your gut feeling and what you are comfortable with. Any regrets? Only that my visa expired after 90 days.

I’m 10 days/3600 miles into a solo adventure. I can totally see how you can do this full time. I’ve barely spent any money, and the national forests are great free camping. I’ll be doing a parking lot oil change tomorrow, and maybe a rear tire before heading home. Good luck on your trip to the Philippines!

Had a planned trip. Started out well. Camped for 6 wks in National & then a City park. Then I caught Covid it seems. Was so sick for the first wk couldn't get on my bike. Luckily I had just bought a large box of oatmeal & a 20 pack box of protein bars. Lived on that for a wk. Then struggled for another month working my way to my son's home where I am now. Still sick. Did ride a few good roads & 4000 miles. Not fun. Hopefully after this winter I will have better results.

Getting struck by lightning "Is just kind of a bad day" 😳 Bro, I'd love to see a video of how you find camp. What are the things you look for in a good spot? The ride back into the woods and back out. Do you cook there? Or do you stop and eat beforehand? I'm sure it varies from day to day. What are some of your favorite states? And do you have favorite spots that you stop in every time you come thru? It's an interesting lifestyle, and your insights mean a lot. Thank you

Hi Joe interesting Q&A. Many years ago I was ridding with a group. We came upon a pasture with a tree by the road. Around the tree were seven head of dead cattle. It was pretty obvious by the bark blown off the tree that the lightning went down the tree and struck them. Hiding under a tall tree in the open can give you a bad day instead of preventing one. Nothing like a good lightning strike close by to scare the hell out of you. you seem to have a pretty handle on the life on the road but I am sure there is something new all the time. But that keeps it interesting. Ride safe.

I've wondered why people don't have a fishing rod with em at all times like u can get a small one and take up like no room then when u are bye water u can fish and hopefully get a nice fish super.

@@Raven44 Good idea but if you want to be legal you would most likely have to buy a non resident fishing license in the state that you were in unless it was your home state. You could probably just buy a meal for the price of the license. Then again you could risk it but the fine would probably be pretty hefty if you got caught.

I've been looking at adventure bikes, but don't think I'll be comfortable with a 33+ inch seat. The Honda Rebel 1100 has the same engine as the Africa Twin. It would be a lot lighter for me to get back off the road as compared to my CTX1300. Very similar to the ST1300 you had, but a touring style ride. It's just too heavy for any off pavement riding.

I know these are not adventure bikes but the Vulcan 900 classics have a really low seat height and you can put bags and a trunk on them and carry a lot of stuff. They can be bought for really good prices. I take mine on dirt or gravel roads with no problems.

@@DirtFishing I have a 900 Vulcan and should consider using it when I can't handle the CTX anymore. It's set up with a trailer hitch and an aux gas tank in the tour pack. But for now, I really like the better handling and lean angle of the CTX.

I'm happy so far with a Harley Heritage. Have the American Beautiful Senior pass making National Parks & COE campgrounds half price of already low cost camping. So not needing an off road bike. Happy to pay $10 or less a night to have a bathouse & security/rangers. More than a few have been murdered in unsecured areas.

You haven't answered one important question. WHY haven't you sprouted feathers from all the rotisserie chicken? I'm in chicken growing country. Just below Sussex County Delaware, outside of Ocean City MD. More chicken is raised here than any other county in the US and we don't eat as much as you do. So where's the feathers? 😂😂

@@dirtymotorcyclevagabond For YOU maybe. I forgot to mention, you were very close to the home where the chicken house was invented, in Ocean View DE. I should have bought that book. A lady ordered 50 chicks and they sent her 500. Having nowhere to raise so many, she built a small structure to keep them. It was about the size of a two seater outhouse. A door and small window on the front. It looked like an enclosed lemonade stand to me, serving the drinks through the window. As it turned out, her daughter lived in my town of Bishopville MD and was my piano teacher. She played organ at church and her husband raised chickens and a little farming. I knew her all my life and had no idea her mother had a hand in starting the commercial chicken growing industry as it is today. Search this name, Cecile Long Steele
