    DMT is by far my favorite. I bought the 3 small stones. And yeah they're a bit too small, but for a small Knife they are just fine. Surface is smooth and flat. The set I bought was the 3 main colors, blue @320 microns, red at 600, and green at 1200. They're great for light travel. But for home use I'd definitely go with what he showed in the box.

    I rarely use my green one, try a blue one, and red to finish; you will be amazed how fast you get an edge.

    Hi Jason. Good to hear. 1) Are they splash and go, and can they be damaged with water? Also, 2) Does the plate need to be replaced after regular use?

  • @jason-hh6lu

    @@Resolute900 I’ve only ever used mine with water. You just need to make sure you dry them after use as the nickel plate can go rusty. That’s what will cause the damage. No, as long as you take care of them, they will last years. Once they are worn out it will be time for a new one.

    I have a lot of other video showing me use the DMT stones I have. For my regular subscribers it would be quite boring if I reviewed sharpening every time. Thanks for watching, these stones make sharpening easy , not much to teach but they do cost more than the cheap Chinese type

    +Doggorunning hiya mate just watched some of your other videos and realised this was just a review, apologies! Just seen your winchester 70 rifle, I have one of those not quite as large caliber mines .243 that I use for shooting roe deer and fox. Nice rifle all the same bolt looks the same even tho it's a new rifle. All the best mate Rob from U.K

    The video is not a knife sharpening video...more talking about a product I love and get great results with. I know what you saw but that was not the point of the video and most go to my sharpening videos for instruction as collectors. You can go to a sharpening channel where all they do is sharpen knives, then you can learn all the mistakes to point out. Did you know for the most part our oceans are unexplored

    I know this is a really old video, but if you still have them, how do they hold up ? I heard that better quality plates would have the diamond electroplated onto a metal plate, rather than glued on plastic. Do you know if they are on a metal plate that is then glued on the piece of plastic ?

    Does it matter if you push or pull the blade away? I noticed the technique is different when sharpening a kitchen knife with a rod. I feel like the blade being pressed into the DMT stone vs pulling away would dull or dig into the stone unevenly. What’re your thoughts?

  • @BaaSicStuff

    @BaaSicStuff

    The rod you speak of in not a sharpener but a hone, which bends the bevel back center. Sharpening can be done in either direction , so can the hone. Sharpening removes material...honing does not

    Hi, I’m also interested in buying these stones.. 2 questions: Can the coarse stone be used to shape an angle on a little axe? Duo’s the fine stone give you a (almost) polished edge? Thx, D.

    The Fine Green is very very fine, the next step would be to strop your knife to get that edge polished. Most systems stop at the Red, stone this being Fine and good to go for most folks. As for shaping a little axe head or hatchet sure. kzread.info/dash/bejne/faiirsF-ntiWndY.html

    @@BaaSicStuff the green is extra fine according to DMT... which is 1200 grit. definitely not polished edge. I love these stones and don't take my pocket knives past the red (600 grit) or green (1200) most of the time... But i would never finish a kitchen knife on a 1200 grit stone, and at bare minimum i'd take it to 3000 before a strop.

    1. Create a feather using correct angle @ 90degrees to stone (22.5deg per side) 2. Remove a the feather using disrupting stokes (circular in direction of blade) on the fine side. 3. Bite knife into plastic or wood and draw through to straighten edge and remove feather. 4. Hone knife along stone withe created bevel on each side going across the stone as if you arr drawing the stone down the length of the blade. Just sayin

    an ambient temperature of 22 celsius will help facilitate that procedure. Possibly a comfortable stool that adjusts to a height of 42 inches, ditch the caster wheels as knife guys don't roll around. Good luck

    This is a review of a product I have many videos on sharpening knives, one that is less than two minutes in total length. Lol three minutes, it takes longer than three minutes to learn how to freehand sharpen. This video is full of information that if listened to will teach you how to get a great result. Quick videos on this subject will give you mediocre results, if that's what you want to be "mediocre" this video is not for you.
