--------
Vlad and D.L. Hughley discussed the surprising wealth and real estate assets of rapper Vanilla Ice. During the discussion, Vlad revealed the rapper's savvy business decision to acquire copyrights for the songs "Under Pressure" and "Ice Ice, Baby," which led him to earn substantial royalties. Finally, Vlad and Hughley debated whether Vanilla Ice or Eminem was more accepted in the "hood" when they first entered the music scene, with Hughley arguing in favor of Eminem.

I'm sorry but I have to say this. There's absolutely no musical or artistic correlation towards Eminem or vanilla ice. That was just a strictly race thing. They both talk about totally different things, they're not even honestly the same genre lol. I'm not that much of a huge Eminem fan but you have to respect the artistic talent Eminem brought to hip hop as a whole, regardless of race. Now in this era where people don't really listen to much music, just what they can see and hear from other comments. But I know Eminem was one of the best lyricist, storytellers, concept creators ever. Vanilla ice is a pop artist. Not to discredit vanilla ice in any way. But you call a spade of spade and a deuce a deuce.

In my experience with Vanilla Ice, growing up "the hood" when the record dropped, it didn't feel authentic. It wasn't a bad song, it was just something off in the presentation. The visuals felt too MC Hammerish. We already had hammer, didn't need a white version. This is why acts from around that time lasted or did well like 3rd Base or Beastie Boys. Felt Authentic and different. Thus Eminem, authentic and different.

Ice Ice Baby was bigger hit than My Name is. You can make no mistake about it. And no matter what anyone says here that is fact. But...Vlad said "in the hood" and while in some hoods they did actually F with Ice Ice Baby. It was more mainstream and for kids who lived in the suburbs that blew that song up. DL is correct 100%.

@@parlayprince Bigger than Lose Yourself, no it wasn't. But it still was huge and sold more than most rappers could ever imagine. The problem with Vanilla Ice is after that debut album. That was pretty much it music wise. He fell way off after that. And became the butt of many jokes. He eventually pivoted and became successful outside of being a music artist as Vlad alluded to. With Em he got bigger and bigger music wise after his debut.

Ice Ice baby was the first rap song EVER to hit #1 on billboard. If you don't like the song I can't say anything about that to each their own. But anyone saying anything negative about the success of that song and discrediting how massive it was in these comments when it dropped wasn't alive or is lying.

Ice ice baby was by far bigger than any of Eminem's hits. Back in 1989/1990 you had to actually buy a record. You didn't just get streamed and make .003 cents per stream. Eminem came out at the height of Napster, limewire, pirate bay and bootlegging CDs. And I say this as a huge Eminem fan who overall thinks Eminem is infinitely better. Vanilla ice sold like 160 million records world wide. Eminem has sold like 228 million or something like that. Rob Van Winkle aka Vanilla Ice obviously didn't have the longevity in the music industry but he adapted and used his wealth toward something else he's passionate about - real estate and I really admire that. He's a really positive dude and does a lot for his community/charity and fans.

Not true... When Vanilla Ice first came out, his music was more accepted in the hood than Eminem. The suburbs thing happened when they figured out he was white. None of the knuckleheads around my way were driving around listening to "My Name Is". That ish was corny. But all of us were driving around listening to "Ice Ice Baby". And this is the point that Snoop was trying to make. No one in the hood listens to Eminem like that.

I'm from Carrollton, TX, so I'm obviously biased. Eminem hit so much harder in the hood than Vanilla Ice. TO THIS DAY I still bump the whole To The Extreme, Hard To Swallow, Mind Blowin, Bi Polar, and Platinum Underground 5-piece combo chopped and screwed while driving around the DFW smoking the last of the illegal weeed, DL spoke no lies when it came to "hood" impact. Iceman had mass appeal, he was more, BEP than BDP.

Really depends on the hood. Down in miami, neither one of’em was “accepted” more or less. And if they had to choose, it would probably be Ice because the music had to be something you could dance to in a dancing environment or if you just rolling down the street in a cadi or chevy, the music pounding outta your speakers had to have some… “ahem” DROP!

@@miamiwax5504, they played the hell out of it and I liked it, but I was 10/ 11 years old at the time and I’m talking older folks who were driving vehicles, bumpin’ the music they wanted to, not radio. Dudes in carol city, liberty city, overtown etc., were not driving around blasting Ice Ice Baby outta their cars like that. Maybe that happened in some other hoods in some other states. I don’t know, but not in Miami.
