Part 21: • DL Hughley: Dennis Mil...
Part 1: • DL Hughley on Diddy Se...
--------
DL Hughley shared a reminiscent account of a confrontation with George Lopez. The conflict allegedly sprang from accusations that Hughley had stolen one of Lopez's jokes; a claim Hughley completely dismisses. Hughley asserts that he had performed the contentious joke about parents serving as human remote controls for TVs years before Lopez. Proclaiming to have audio-visual proof, he explains the difference in recording quality between their respective jokes. Apparently, the heated dispute led to a physical standoff, which diffused when Hughley made a peace offering. Comedian Carlos Mencia, involved in the discussion, empathetically pointed out how age and experience generally reshape perspectives, and revealed his own past 'fistfight' with Eddie Griffin. Reflecting on their roller-coaster friendship, he asserted the importance of not taking oneself too seriously and listening to each other.

you know, that remote control joke has been told by comedians since the 80s. it's everyone's childhood who grew up in or before the 70s.

Just like the black vs white jokes. Richard Pryor was doing that since the '70s.... and I just watched a recent Snoop comedy special with Guy Torry as one of the comedians and he's still telling white vs black jokes as if it's still the '70s, '80s and '90s.

@@HellokittyLuv03 The problem is that we're 60+ years deep in integration, interracial marriages and American cultural homogenization. Those jokes were fresh in the '70s because integration was still new. We were still foreign to each other as different cultures and ethnicities. Today, those differences are blurred. We have been questioning what "blackness" is for several decades now. It's not the same as it was in the '60s and '70s. We work together, live together, create together, build together and procreate together a whole lot more than we used to. Why do you think black people still get so triggered when you accuse them of "talking white" or "acting white?" Conversely, white people have adopted many customs, traits and mannerisms of black people. There's too much assimilation and cross-pollination of cultures for those jokes to still have significance or relevance...

@@KtotheG You sound like you are limiting yourself to the world you live in, the world you are know, the world you are accustomed to. There are deep worrying divides in all parts of the world. And even in parts of the world where there is greater integration, cross-cultural jokes are still told, and I personally would not advocate for a stop to this. It's OK to make fun of ourselves, within limits, and its OK to make fun of each other, within limits. It's part of life, or is it not? I recently saw this interview on KZread of the cast of "Fences" a movie that essentially deals with African-American culture, that was directed by Denzel Washington, and I love the way Denzel emphasised the need for cultural movies to be directed by individuals from those particular cultures. Denzel gave two examples, the first, of how Martin Scorsese, an Italian-American, directed "Goodfellas," a movie that dwells on Italian-American culture, and the second, of how Steven Spielberg, a Jewish-American, directed "Schindler's List," a movie about Jewish culture and Jewish history. All three movies, "Fences," "Goodfellas" and "Schindler's List" are excellent movies, with excellent storytelling, and it's just as well that they were directed by individuals who were born and brought up in the three cultures in the three movies. I'm from Kenya, in East Africa, and I believe in racial integration, the integration of different cultures, and the integration of different ethnicities, communities and tribes. Integration, anywhere in the world, can however be fickle and skin deep. Underlying a seemingly serene surface, when it comes to integration, are concealed and unseen fissures, resentment, and even hatred. Society in every part of the world is like a ticking time bomb of the unseen. There are 42 tribes in Kenya, and I grew up in an environment where there was a representation of many Kenyan tribes. I went to school with babes and guys from different Kenyan tribes, and some of the babes and guys I admired most back then were from other Kenyan tribes, not the one I am from. I always imagined that we were still not united as a people, a country and a nation, but that we were getting there. This way of thinking changed after Kenya's bitterly contested General Elections of 2007 that almost took us to Civil War. I couldn't believe the way we went at each other. Deep concealed hatred from all of us came to the surface like an erupting volcano. For a while I even felt like a "dead man walking." It occurred to me that I had been living a lie, me and many other Kenyans. I was less hurt taking insults from people I didn't know, much more hurt taking insults from people I thought I knew, such as people from other Kenyan tribes who I went to school with, the ones I mention above. I was also shocked by the way people from my own tribe who I was close to, close relatives even, insulted and demeaned people from other tribes. I had always thought that we were a much more fair minded people, a much more balanced people. This was 16 years ago, and I have been treading cautiously since then, after realising that this is not the country I thought I knew. Have we improved socio-culturally since then? No we haven't. And what makes it worse is that we have been living beyond our means with money we do not have, only further compounding a delicate sociocultural situation. It's like we are knocking on hell's door. So if things look pretty serene and integrated where you, stay alert and keep alert, and I don't mean this in a bad way. Things are not always what they seem, something I learned in my own rather profound way here in Kenya back in 2007. Regards, Michael M. Kamau, Nairobi, Kenya, East Africa, 30th December 2023.

There are many reasons why Vlad is a bad interviewer. One, I don’t think he wants to interview people. I think Vlad wants to be the star and uses interviews to spotlight himself. Two, in this interview, Vlad had to one-up DL. For example, when DL said he knew Eddie Griffin, Vlad jumped in and said, “Yes! I know him too. I interviewed him in his house in Vegas.” That was an unnecessary response.

Look man, we were ALL the remote control back then.
In defense of Carlos here, literally every child growing up in the 70's thru the 90's had to man the tv while others sat comfortably on the couch. Its a joke that absolutely any American could've written. It was actually a joke kids (maybe just the poorer kids) in the 80's always told.

Every parent told their kid to change the TV channel, this joke doesn't belong to either one of them.
Did DL just say " Kurfufel"?!?!
Some of you all may find it funny that comedians have beef, to the point where they put hands on each other, but, as someone, who grew up in the church and by "grew up," I mean being in church all day on Saturday, Sunday, then meeting on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights, I have seen pastors fight, so I can understand to a certain extent! I remember being in church and our pastor invited two pastors to preach, not knowing that they had beef. Well, the first visiting pastor preached and made comments about preachers wanting to be bigger than God. The next visiting preacher followed and preached about false prophets, preachers wanting to be dictators, instead of preaching. To their credit, they maintained their appearance until 90% of the churchgoers left. BUT, when it was just my pastor and them standing there getting a plate to eat, that's when all hell broke loose! They were both standing and eating talking to my pastor, who you cn see was trying to calm everything down, then one visiting pastor put down his plate, and started to take off is suit jacket and that's when me, a teenage kid, saw those two pastors in nice suits, minus the suit jackets rolling over in the parking lot of the church, which was nothing more than white sand and rocks, with my pastor, my father, my uncles and all rushing to pull them apart. I remember my drunk uncle saying, "See ma, you want me to go to church and these niggas act worse than I do!"
