Part 1: • DL Hughley on Diddy Se...
--------
Comedian D.L. Hughley and Vlad recently discussed their disappointment in artist Lauryn Hill's disregard for her fans. In the interview, they criticize Hill for telling an audience that they should feel lucky that she shows up for her performances and then canceling the rest of her tour. Hughley makes the point that the most significant contract an artist signs is with their audience, seeing as these fans invest time and money to attend shows. He criticized Hill's failure to respect and value her audience’s time, considering it disrespectful and arrogant. Both Hughley and Vlad appreciate their own audience, seeing them as loyal and valuable. They emphasize that one of the primary motivators for their work is the love they have for it.

I view Lauren through the "thin line between genius and madness" lens, and thus just can't hate on her, as whatever internal process causes her to act in these ways is also probably tied into whatever process allowed her to manifest her genius musically on her album. ie : we don't get such a all time album without the flakey, and ultimately self destructive, behaviors she's also manifested. 💚+🍀to her always tho, as ya gotta be grateful for the gift of that album at least.

Lauryn Hill and Madonna have reached peaks of stardom and both are legends, but they also suffer from a lack of respect for their audience. They take the audience for granted like they will always be there no matter how bad they act. When they schedule tours, like clockwork the first few shows go great, but after than it's all downhill. They start showing up late, get a few songs in before the venue is required to shuts down, walk off stage for no reason or look under the influence, or they cancel performances outright. Both have left fans outraged for the prices they paid, time they waited, and got barely anything out of the deal. Venues have been forced to issues refunds countless times. Neither Lauryn or Madonna have made it through a scheduled tour in years. Therefore it's buyers beware - tickets buyers are finally catching on. This year Madonna is barely filling an arena - go figure. Lauryn's fans after the statement "they were lucky she showed up" fans will not be so quick to buy next time either.

Sometimes it's best to go out a Queen, than to come back and turn yourself into a pauper in the eyes of your fans. Indeed, people need to vote with their wallets. It's the only way they will be forced to do some self reflection and be accountable for their actions, but for many big stars they have too many yes people around them that sadly shield them from reality as long as they are making $$ off of them.

Please don’t put Madonna in a category with 1 hit wonders. Lauryn Hill had 1 successful album, Anita Hill had a couple albums, only 1 was a major success. . MADONNA has 14 Studio albums, 6 Live albums, 7 Compilation albums, 3 Soundtrack album, 39 Limited releases. Madonna has at least paid her dues in concerts over the years. Lauryn has screwed up every tour she’s been invited on. Anita Baker has been hit-and-miss too.

People forget Lauren Hill got signed to Columbia when she was only 18 yo. The industry really messed her up. Some people come to the industry and are happy to sell out. The ones who get it worst are the ones who refuse to sell out and try to fight back. I don't think she ever recovered and she certainly did not come close to fulfilling her talent as a songwriter and performer.

Folks assume being a great artist is synonymous with ideal personality traits and great etiquette or work ethic, but that's not the case at all. Let's be completely honest, people invest way more thought into the catalogs of these legacy artists than they should, simply because the music was so impactful at the time. They often overlook that these artists were just kids when they wrote these songs, likely regurgitating life experiences of someone else they grew up around, or even worse, taking great ghostwriting suggestions from others. Evidence that their lyrics weren't often a reflection of their actual state of mind lies in the decisions some of these artists made later on in adulthood. The quasi-maturity reflected in many of those old-school songs was likely all label and marketing team doctoring, not their actual sincere accounts. This was back when that kind of image control really mattered in the music business. 😏

Lauryn Hill shouldn’t do that to her fans. Give it up and allow people that’s willing to show up use the venue. As for Vlad hands down I love his interviews, BUT sometimes he needs to let people tell their story, stop trying to correct them ( unless they’re lying) and stop reminiscing every time the guess has gone through something that he relates to. Oh and stop with the sneak (jokes)dissing cause he feel comfortable with the guess, theirs nothing wrong with laughing at things that’s funny BUT!, let them do the entertaining and you ask the question.
