AndyRC I am totally new at this, Titan DC5 waiting to be flown, flying in all the available sims, looking forward to use my goggles with the sim and with my TinyHawk, before I attempt to crash my Titan. Very interested to know how to use the goggles with the sim now. What changed? And also, what is the cheapest decent Fatshark receiver module just so I can FPV my TinyHawk, don’t want to spend much as I will be focusing on digital, but don’t want to buy separate goggles just for the training phase on my TinyHawk. Hope you can shed some light. Excellent video BTW, glad to be a subscriber!
Just want to say....... What a fantastic, well researched, professionally presented video. Very impressed.

surprised of the huge info that I really first time to know all about antennas! Thanks a bunch mate!
As usual, informative, well researched, and very interesting. Thanks Andy. I replaced my stock antennas with the TrueRC Singularity, only because it is a smaller form factor and easier to transport, as I don't like keep taking the antennas on and off.
Very happy that Caddx has come out with their own module. Gives me another reason to hold off and wait for either a smaller module unit or a runcam/foxeer version. kicking the can down the road ftw!

Hey Andy I'm writing just to say that, as someone new to this hobby, I'm watching a lot of videos from a lot of different people about fpv. Really great video!!
I have always said the stock DJI ant are absolutely perfect for everyday hobby use. I know its not "cool" but ...I do like the Lumineer Axii because of the size 1 the V2.0 Occusinc RE Goggles came with linear "post" antenna. I am considering trying them ! I now take one DJI 5" kwad everyday to the field. The DJI tx. The DJI goggles. AND ITS PERFECT !! I AM getting excellent range. Beautiful video experience. LOVE the TX !!! Builds are so easy ...wow !! we are all SO SO lucky ! what an amazing leap in technology ! THANK YOU ANDY and THANK YOU DJI !! I still fly my Phantom 4 and Mavic Pro. No matter what regulations come it will not take away from the joy of flying FPV !!
Good job, I almost understood everything and my headache should go away soon. I enjoy all your videos.
I just bought the DJI FPV System along with an Air Unit and a Caddx Vista. I'm excited about this tech because I am a filmmaker. I have owned multiple DJI UAS that provide a great live image in stabilized flight or in hover, but as incredible as DJI systems have been, they have always lacked the ability to fly a camera the way that FPV Freestyle and Racing pilots fly theirs. Unless they are working on a production with large budgets, or have healthy resources to fund their pursuits, most FPV pilots haven't had an accessible system available that provided a reliable and robust digital signal to the pilot, and met all of the other technical requirements for various lightweight unmanned aerial systems. A massive and growing community of pilots will be benefiting from this technology, and even with the inevitability of whatever trade-offs must be made, this is already a pretty big winner. This system has been a long time coming, and will be part of a new era moving cameras through space. The master pilots that haven't gotten too many views on their old analog DVR FPV clips will now be able to blow your mind. From the back woods to the back lots, this system is going to make some DPs into heroes, because they hired that kid down the street to shoot the Audi commercial, and the kid's been practicing with the DJI system, so he can get the shot in one take. :) Putting a live camera into the action of FPV Freestyle, Cinewhoop, FPV Racing, X-Class and other sports that we're seeing emerge requires systems like this to enable broad and universal exposure. An analog FPV signal is typically not what a broadcaster is looking for from an event, and GoPro footage is great, but can be expensive or problematic to capture live from something as light and nimble an acro drone. Production companies have built compact FPV drone systems that are equipped for live broadcast for use in filming motorsports and other events in Europe, but some of those drones cost in excess of $10,000 when fully equipped to fly. That's in addition to the equipment in the OB truck and operators, which process and broadcasts the signals, and the team that both flies and supports the fleet of drones. A single event can involve two producers, four camera operators, two editors, two graphic artists, three pilots, and three flight crew, or many, many more. These products are starting to change that. For the little guys, the big, guys, and everyone in between. Even if you're flying a bigger camera this system can be used to confirm shots, etc. The signal is very robust, and the image is fine as a live view monitor. Since this has extremely low latency you could use it to direct the camera, then use a Teradek or Connex with higher latency to get the main camera image. Have fun! I'll be busy for a bit as I plan all the fun I'm going to have with the DJI FPV System at the race track, and Pikes Peak, and the reservoir... Yeeeee Haaaaw!

Now I get to put together some of my analog quads and radios to give to friends that want to try it out! That's a nice side benefit to adopting a new platform...gifts to friends. It's why I never really sell anything. I was in a horrible car accident last Wednesday, so now my back is a bruised and strained mess currently and I have to take muscle relaxants at night, so I feel just a tiny bit loopy. That may explain the very impromptu DJI endorsement above. (My wife read this and seems to think that I'm okay, and can't wait until I can get back out to fly my drones. She's very nice.) Cheers, guys. I'm glad we had this talk.
Glad someone is finally putting this stuff on a good video. I've commented on some of this, but of course, that doesn't spread the word as well as a good channel like yours. And while I agree that the stock antennas do a pretty awesome job, I think many antenna tests are flawed because they match aftermarket antennas on the goggles with stock antennas on the quad or the other way around. The stock DJI antennas seem to be barely circular polarized, which is why a linear antenna can work so well with them. So when you put aftermarket antennas on one device, but leave stock antennas on the other, you have a polarization mismatch and degraded performance, or at least degraded possibilities. In my testing, stock/stock does not perform as well as an aftermarket/aftermarket setup. Granted, I haven't tested a bando but my testing environment has some multi-pathing and penetration. I think for a bando, you want good omnis on both sides to catch the multi-pathing versus a patch which tries for penetration. What I have settled on for my type of flying is TrueRC Singularities on the goggles, and VAS Minon Pro on the quad. In my "bad spot", the stock setup dips into the teens for bitrate, but with the aftermarket, I don't get below 20Mbit. I originally bought the Singularties because they are compact. I didn't really expect much out of them performance wise, but was pleasantly surprised. They beat my testing of Lollipops, SkyHammers, Cyclops, and Pagodas. I wouldn't doubt your meter readings so much. If you look, it is getting around 80% duty cycle on the quad side. If you consider the data flow, there is far more data going to the goggles. Most of what they are doing is acks. With it set on "peak", it is not considering the duty cycle. Also, your readings match the FCC testing. Their "Maximum Conducted Power" tests shows around 22dbm per connector, which is almost exactly what you were showing (160mw). I have done the same tests with the same meter. Some folks like to discount that meter because of JB's testing that had poorly performing pigtails. But when it matches the FCC testing,.... I believe that the power discrepancy is in DJI's "fuzzy math". In the FCC testing, they count the maximum power as two antennas added together since the system is MIMO. When you add antenna gain to 160mw and double it, it puts you pretty close to 700mw. Also, DJI's stated power in the FCC docs is slightly higher than the measured,.... which you would kinda expect them to undershoot actuals when talking to the government. Since you have so much info on it, I assume you already have read the FCC testing, but for anyone who hasn't, google these. goggle FCC ID ss3-p1gs1902 air unit FCC ID ss3-p1as1901 remote control FCC ID SS3-P1RC1901

Nice review Andy... I use the true-rc patch ants and they work GREAT..!!! Even from behind sitting on the ground in front of my truck ...I went all around the park I fly at and the goggles where supurb at 1200mw...!!! no problems very lite latency flying at about 10ft off the ground and and oval perimeter about 600 to 700 yards...!!! And 1mile at the same height at my flying club with a few trees following the gravel road in... Elevation changes also some small buildings, trees at the park, but great video still ... I'm just amazed on how good this system is ...I'm using the full system outstanding...!!! But still like my analog ;-) But now I can use the dji goggles with all my qwads with the new adapter for analog ;-) thanks again for another great video review on the best antennas...!!!

Hi . I use DJI FPV Remote Controller binned with the air unit . I suppose the embedded receiver uses the same two antennas the air unit uses to transmit to the goggles . Is it normal at about 1750 m from home position , to have a fail safe event ( FCC and LOS ) ?
Most of the communications world calls TDD...TDMA time division multiplexing access, as opposed to dedicated FDMA frequency division. Google searches or you tube ones might yield better results using TDMA. Just sayin...either way, another great issue. You’re rocking it, and I enjoy all your posts
Hey Andy. I think this is the first video to do with fpv that I have watched from start to finish! Quick Question, if the antennas were all in the same price range, what would you find best to use? X Air Maybe?
I fly long range fixed wing at 700mW and have found that a True RC X-Air connected to the top 2 antennas gives about 3 times the range of using the stock antennas. Leaving 2 stock antennas on the bottom 2 positions gives good omni reception when behind or vertically above me. I get 3 bars signal strength and 25mbps at 2.5km.

Wow what a amazing video full of information that I wasn’t aware of. I gotta tell you Andy your the realest person I’ve come across yet on KZread when it comes to not beating around the bush telling us a bunch of Bull shit about a product to get people to purchase it for your own personal gain. You failed recess back in your school days I’m assuming you don’t play! You tell straight up wether it is a good product or a piece of 💩. Ex. The review of the sailfly I believe it was. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it. Having said that your a great guy and deliver amazing full of informative content. Keep it going man. 👍🏼 I would like to ask you a question if you don’t mind. Is it possible to change all four antennas to RHCP on the DJI goggles? Just wondering beings I have a load of RHCP antennas that I’ve purchased for my analog setup an haven’t really flown analog since I had DJI. Either way if you see tho and don’t mind giving me your thoughts and maybe some information on your experience if you tried it yourself. Thanks
Any update to this?? I’d love a comparison with the maple wireless mjorlin and the truer air2 the crystal and of course axii hd 2.
Andy, try being IN the Bando when you fly DJI. Furadi thinks that the way the MIMO system works it actually benefits from the multi-pathing bounces.
@AndyRCchannel
4 жыл бұрын
multipathing just means reflections so it would help standing inside the building for sure If mimo is being used in that way although DJI indicated to me that they arnt using MIMO for that use. Turning down the power output of analogue indoors will reduce multipathing reflections. But the bando exploring I do with analogue is usually done standing outside the building and this for me is what HD fpv needs to match what analogue can do. It seems that two omnis on the transmitting antennas on the goggles helps this.

Very interesting stuff Andy. I have no problem with the stock antennas, but I did notice that the stock air unit antennas are not very durable. I mean, I'm actually very easy on my gear. But I literally clipped a twig flying under a tree and one of the caps came off. Do you know if the cap itself works in the polarization (like on some VAS antennas)? Or is the cap just plain plastic and all the of the antenna elements are on the inner portion only? Most of my other antennas will take a beating before losing a cap.
Very new to this and looking for the best antennas for flying indoors/long range indoors. Any recommendations?
Hi Andy, do you have a video analyzing the new DJI Goggle 2, how to connect directional antennas? Other questions, Can I install on the air unit and dji goggle RHCP antennas?
Cheers 🍻another interesting and informative video. 👍
Hey Andy, I don't fly bandos but simply want to extend my range ability. Have you tested both these in simple range tests and if so, which set-up do you recommend?? Thanks.
Can you do a video on the dji fpv transmitter and antennas please
This is specific to the Video transmission, correct? Hence why to leave those two antenna on the air unit? I plan to use Crossfire for my DJI setup with the micro transmitter and the crossfire nano rx on board. Great video!
I have bought a dji and protek35 backpack. I had no idea the extra antennas which are the menace lhcp did what they do, so they’ll be going straight on. There was also a red unit bolted to the side called achilles with the same lead as the one in the vid. i removed this, didnt know what it was for or how to use it. Seems I have a bought a fair bit of kit at a great price i just use the std antennas, have jacked the output up to 700mw on my caddax unit but get pixelation at about 180m lowish height behind trees. I’ll try the menace and see of there is a difference. It has been suggested I change the antenna on the caddax unit to a taller one as it doesnt stick up very high. Are these 5.8ghz? and what should i look for
for the bottom pair of antennas, does it matter whether the pair is LHCP or RHCP ?
Can you tell me where you got the white 3D printed case that surrounds the analog RX on the side of the goggles ?
The camera you show has 2 antennas but the links only have one.
what the difference in RHCP or LHCP idk which to get, does it matter, should they be all the same polarization if i choose one style over the other??
Thanks Andy! One question. Since only the top antennas of the DJI goggles are transmitting microwaves, would it be safe to have patch antennas on the bottom only, such as the Iflight crystal patch, and use stock antennas on the top?
There still is the analogue delay when using analog in, no?
For the extensions which polarisation do I need?
Alot of good information here Andy! Your discovery at 7:08 that the google's does not transmit when there is no air unit powered on means that it's possible to use analog input without dji antennas connected or may it suddenly start transmitting if discovered another 5.8 ghz signal?
Do you know if there will be the capability to record gps location telemetry on the digital feed?
Andy - good video but i got a bit lost as new to FPV. Can i ask what you would swap as a start ? i lost my drone last week due to DJI air unit reception failure
Why trueRC suggest to connect the patch antenna to two top SMA horizontally when not used in pair (2x2) ?
HI Andy, fellow UK flyer/complete noobie here. What a steep learning curve this all is, my head is about to explode. Anyway im not sure if you mentioned it but when purchasing the extender kits there are three options. SMA to SMA SMA to RPSMA RPSMA to RPSMA what would be the correct one to get with the menace PICO?

Hi Andy, great video. Could I ask what antennas would you recommend for a flying wing setup with dji digital system?
@simonhughes-king8493
4 жыл бұрын
I'm waiting to get mine, to put it on an Opterra 2m flying wing. The type of "flying thing" doesn't have much bearing on the RF Tx and Rx performance. Go for what Andy recommends. The best way to improve performance of this system, or any RF system, would be to get the antenna up and away from the goggles/head themselves. I would love to be able to separate the goggle screen gubbins from the RF gubbins and place the RF gubbins on a 5 metre pole. And range/performance is less about Tx power, more about Rx sensitivity and Rx ability to discriminate the signal it wants from other signals and the noise floor.
hi andy would this set up with two menace antennas be good for forest and woodland flying or is there a better option? thx
Would you recommend this same setup of yours for the Walksnail Avatar HD system? Thanks!
This is v1, right? Would it make sense to put on the TX mounts a pagoda and a patch, just as I do for my analog setup on the v2? Same for rx mounts: mix a pagoda and a patch. Most people I see using either two patch antennas or just two omni antennas on both tx and rx mounts... ? Is the image constructed the same as with rapidfire technology, or the antenna selection is more basic in the DJI goggles?
Does it work with kiss fc yet?
The higher gain on the goggle transmitters are probably fooling the air unit into thinking the quad is closer to you than it really is so it drops the output power a bit to save on battery. The googles most likely don't do the same as you generally have plenty of power in them to last a day so they stick to whatever transmit power you set.
