DJI Goggles 2 - What Nobody Tells You! - Day 14

Ғылым және технология

DJI Goggles 2 review and why I'm returning my DJI Goggles 2 with the whole DJI Avata kit. The new goggles 2 are worse than the old DJI FPV Goggles V2!
DJI Goggles 2 has flawed design and very bad optics. Basically, you can't even get the whole screen in focus. Screen edges are very distorted and causes big eye strain. You can't even see the whole screen. Goggles 2 is just bad design.
Yes, the new goggles 2 are smaller, lighter and does not take much space in the backpack.. DJI has fixed the strap, antennas and added correction lens to the model. OLED screens are a bit more crisp and vivid.. but all this is for nothing if you can't even see those screen properly because of crappy optics.
If you looking to get DJI avata. I would recommend going ONLY FOR the cheaper Goggles V2. And you can buy the strap and smaller antennas separately, as clip on correction lenses if needed. I'm keeping my DJI Goggles V2.

A few more reasons FPV Goggles V2 are better for "us": - can wear most glasses with them - being able to record 4k60 on Avata/O3AU while in low latency mode (Goggles 2 can only do it in hq mode) - 2.7k120 recording (vs 100fps on Goggles 2) - bigger fov - lower latency (by 2-3ms due to higher refresh rate) - higher output power at 5.8GHz (which is all you care about for fpv since Avata and O3AU only do video on 5.8) (1.4W on V2 vs 1W on 2) - 3 fpv systems in one goggle (analog, dji fpv system, O3+) - being able to plug in almost any xt60 battery - being able to upgrade all 4 antennas - even the dji battery pack lasts much longer than on new ones - video out - working defogging fan (lots of reports with fogging issues on new ones already) - better face fit with sponge foams (which will be hard to do on Goggles 2 due to optics) - no screen burn-in or smearing of OLEDs - intuitive physical control over menus (the amount of youtubers who still don’t know how to go back on Goggles 2’s touchpad is hilarious) - rootable

I do not use glasses with V2 but clip on correction lens are better too. You never change focus by accident like on Goggles 2. All signal and power specs are just specs.. I did not feel that Avata is capped in range or latency in anyway after the FCC unlock. Most people would never know or notice. Though compatibility with the old systems is another big reasons Googles 2 are a bit useless right now. You can not replace V2 anyway, if you have any previous drones. And I totally agree with touch controls.. It's been almost 2 weeks and I still not feel comfortable with the touchpad. As it does not work with wet hands or gloves.

I have the same problems with ghosting on v2 googles. I can only adjust to have the center of the screen without the ghosting, or edges, but with ghosting in the center. I feel like I need to move lenses more than googles allow. So basically I can normally adjust for one eye only.

Yeah, I had a bad experience with mine too. Nose pain and vignetting/blur around the edges. Not confident there is an easy solution for someone experiencing both issues. It's more complicated than just slapping an aftermarket thicker foam on the goggle.

I would have to 100% agree. This is definitely an issue. How are others on you tube not talking about this in their reviews? I love the Avata. It’s absolutely an amazing drone, handles incredibly well, fast, agile, great range, but I don’t love the googles. I’ve adjusted the diopters and width of the lenses endlessly, but the right side is not clear at all. Very similar to what several others have described on here. The right side of the screen: important messages, range and signal data, etc are barely legible. I’m able to get to a better point, if I play around and manually adjust the position of the googles on my face with my hand, but as soon as I let go, back to blurry. This absolutely has to be addressed by DJI.

I haven't been able to maiden this VERY expensive bird yet and am very disappointed. Do I really need to see about returning these goggles and TRYING V2's? I am 45 and starting to become nearsighted. They were ugly, they were big, you couldn't mod them, etc. I was like ok, don't panic, when you get them on your face, the outside "look" doesn't matter, the only thing that matters is the resolution. So I put them on and my heart just sunk further. It was like you were way back in a movie theater sitting in the last row. You saw all the "room" around you and it was hard to read the OSD, and worse, you had some air conditioner blasting right on your eyeballs. I flew them for 5 minutes, and never flew them again. It was like wearing a scuba gear brick on your face or facehugger from Ripley's Alien movie. Sitting in a box collecting dust along with my air units and vistas. What a total waste of money.

i love my goggles 2. the v2 goggles are a good strong option in fpv at the new price point of the v2 its a good option. with all fpv systems you always have to give up something to gain something. for me just the size and the better video alone was worth getting them for me. at first i was not happy with the goggles 2 but after using them a lot i feel happy i got them. but hands down out of the box the new goggles 2 was better than my v1 and v2 goggles i could not use my v1 till i got new head strap and new face plate with shims. iv been trying to get my son into fpv for years now and he try on the new goggles and took the avata for a spin 2 days latter he order his avata. as far as the fogging goes i found after my goggles heat up the fans kick in stronger and work better so i think they can fix the fogging with a update. the vignetting yes if you sit there and look at it then you can see it but after flying a week i don't even see it anymore. But like any goggles if they don't fit your face they don't fit your face. I started with box goggles i then got skyzone then went with fatshark then dji v1 then dji v2. out of all the goggles i ever got i will say the dji v2 and the dji goggles 2 are buy far my favorite goggles iv ever used.

I am very happy that I also have my V2, first of all, the image is larger and can focus very well. Find the 2 absolutely no improvement, can't get it to focus properly, but this will be my eyes.

There is nothing wrong with the optics. Its a case of the goggles not being in the right position in relation to your eyeball. As they are smaller lenses, your eyeball needs to be nearer to the lenses. It might be that the rubber is too thick, and holding the goggles too far from your face. This can be proved by taking off the rubber and putting the goggles onto your face. Even the older goggles had fitting issues when they 1st came out but was fixed with after market foam etc. The blurry text is again at least for me due to being in the wrong position. I fix this by moving up and down on my face.

Thanks for that. I've been trying weight up the new gogs. Avatar is a no brainer but I have Gogs V2, which I already struggle to see full left to full right, so Im thinking these Gogs 2 will be even worse by the sounds. 1080p would be great but not with this issue and LOTS saying hurts ya nose. Think I'l just buy Avatar on its own.

I just got my avata with goggles 2. I thought I was doing something wrong, because all youtube videos show a full clear screen from the goggles 2. . . but they never tell you this is not what you actually see while wearing them. I have trouble seeing the bottom gauges while flying. Its not a deal breaker, but is something that definitely need to be addressed.
