DIY Welding Table - Reckless Wrench Garage

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I make a custom welding fixture table on this episode of the Reckless Wrench Garage. I used my existing table of .25 thick steel and a mag drill from Evolution Power Tools. The mag drill I used is the S28MAG with a 5/8 annular cutter. After drilling over 200 holes I made a tray for the clamps and stops and I shortened the table height by 10 inches for more comfort while sitting. This turned out to be a great fixture table for welding!

Nice job, thank you. I enjoy looking in on home made welding table videos. Mine is not the peak of welding table flatness or size or rigidity. But with the gift of an old steel-framed computer table from a school I had the basis I needed, it’s 2 feet x 4feet. I got a 3mm plate to fit it, laser cut to 18mm holes on 50mm hole-centres and it does for me. If I had to drill my own holes or I did the job again I think I’d choose 100mm centres (4 inch centres) because 50mm/2 inch centres mean a lot of holes and they must weaken any thinner plate and make it more likely to flex, and droop a bit in the middle. But as you say, DIY and save some dosh! Thanks again, Les

An intelligent, sensible approach. 👍 Too many youtube guys are obsessed with going bigger and better than everybody else, but I like your table. 🙂

Not only over priced but under sized on the material they use for these products. It's nice being able to make something strong enough to last for decades and not just some years

Every tool you build is another tool (you can’t build) that youll be able to afford to buy to expand your abilities even further Besides every tool you build is just more experience you’ll have at building It hones your craft for the projects that really count Ain’t nobody gonna care how perfect your tire changer is Nobody gonna pick at the hydraulic press not being the latest and greatest Same for sand blasters or refractory furnaces My motto is if I can make it for the same as it costs or close but I end up with a better product than that’s something I should be building in my down time Basically he just bought the mag drill for free and ended up with a fixture table that’s of higher quality than the fixture tables you can readily buy And every tool has a mount exactly where you wanted it

And here I am excited that I just bought two 90 degrees vises to make a perfectly square frame on my garage floor, to mount a piece of 3/8" plate steel to for my very first fab table 😅 similar to you, tiny 2 car garage, so it's built to be small but maximize space

Well you should be excited. The only comparison you should be doing it to yourself from the day before. Everyone progresses and achieves at a different pace. So yeah. Watch others but use it to learn and not to down yourself with things someone has already and you don't.

Great job on your table. Can you let me know where you got the 5/8th fixture clamps and studs as they have the ball bearing ends to them and that's what Ive been looking for to adapt to my table and tools.

A friend of mine uses an old cast iron table saw. Idk what the machine shop charged him to put all the holes in it but it wasn’t cheap. Works good though. I’ve been wanting to get a nice table but I keep spending my money on stupid stuff like the house payment, and the electric and gas bills. 😂
