DIY VITAMIN C SERUM - EASY & CHEAP!
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Save money on vitamin C serum by making your own! You can make a fresh batch every week to ensure it stays potent and doesn't oxidize.
Vitamin C serum helps protect your skin against free radicals and gives it a smoother appearance.
It's so cheap to make, the ingredients are easy to buy, and you can make it in any concentration you want.
If you haven't used vitamin C serum before, I suggest making a 5% strength first. Use that for one week. If you don't have any irritation, try the 10% strength the second week.
Make sure to use a good sunscreen wherever you apply the vitamin C serum! See suggestions for sunscreens below in the "Products shown or mentioned" section!

Recipe for the various strengths of Vitamin C Serum:
5%: 1/4 t. Ascorbic Acid powder + 4 t. Base**
10%: 1/4 t. Ascorbic Acid powder + 2 1/4 t. Base**
15%: 3/8 t. Ascorbic Acid powder + 2 1/8 t. Base**
20%: 1/4 t. Ascorbic Acid powder + 1 t. Base**
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the video I made a double recipe of the 20% serum which is:
1/2 t. Ascorbic Acid powder + 2 t. Base**
** The Base can be all distilled water or a combination of distilled water and glycerin (or some other thickener, such as a chafing gel).
For the 2 teaspoons of Base, I used 1 1/2 t. distilled water and 1/2 t. glycerin (for a double recipe)..
In other words, I like the base to be mostly distilled water and less than half in glycerin.
I just tried your receipt on the vitamin c serum . Don't know how I will react to it but I wanted you to know it felt so good going on! I didn't expect that. You didn't say how much vitamin E oil to use how many capsules if I don't have the oil
Great idea!
What’s the difference as I have bottles with a dropper that says vitamin C, I have another bottle of vitamin E and another of rosehip seed oil, they are all clear and I take a drop of each for my eyes and forward then use essential oils mix with fruit stem sell cream, it last for 6 months, Almond oils is good for your skin but it’s been proven that fraction coconut is the best to reduce wrinkles.... look at my pic and how old do I seriously look like?.. and plenty of water is important
Wow very nice! thanks for sharing 😘😘😘😘
Coconut oil at night absorbs very well so I mix in Vit C powder it also absorbs very well, but I also do a derma roll & then pat my face with vit C with water
What a sweetheart - you do a good job
Hi. I think it depends. Not all vitamin C serums are equal. Besides my DIY serum in this video, I like the Timeless brand for (1) its ingredients and for (2) its price. If you find another, you might compare the ingredient list of the one you find to the Timeless brand's C serum to see how they match up.
Where is your sweater from please I desperately love it so much
Hi! When you put this in the morning, do you still apply sunscreen or the make up? In the evening, this serum first before moisturizer? Can I substitute the Vitamin E with olive oil?
Before, my complexion wasn't even and showed dark spots. However now, after applying this littleexetra vitamin C face serum, it all has changed. My skin is much softer and clearer. Those dark spots are almost gone. Now my skin looks shiny and bright, which I really like. The best part? I do not need to wear as much makeup anymore since this serum works so well! It doesn't make me feel sticky, which is great for me. The serum absorbs into my skin fast and doesn't leave any leftovers.
Hi thanks for this video it's fab. I bought all the ingredients to make some but accidently got the Ascorbic Acid powder not the L - Ascorbic Acid powder. Can I still use this? Does it just mean the the vit C is synthetic? Thanks
I'd use the vitamin C serum before the facial oils to allow the C serum to absorb into your skin first. Thanks for watching!
With oil you really want to use vitamin c palmitate . The c will absorb into the skin and go into the skin deeper not just the top layer. What you are making only works on the top layer but is good for exfoliating dead skin cells.
If you're going to use the C serum once a day, use it at night. I use it morning and night. In the morning, apply the serum before sunscreen. At night, apply the serum before moisturizer. You must use a good sunscreen every day when you're using vitamin C serum (even if you only apply the serum at night). Check the description box below this video where I have links to several excellent sunscreens. Thanks for watching!
Could you use Rose water for the base? and I've heard from a dermatologist you can use fruit fresh with its acid and make some that way. Have you ever heard of this? Lemon juice works that's how I got rid of my freckles.
@gloryb-tv
Rose water is probably okay as long as it is formulated for skincare. I wouldn't use fruit fresh - you do mean "Fruit Fresh" that is used when canning fruit, right? Or do you mean "fresh fruit"? "No" to both.
Great video! Do you use retin-a along with the bit c serum?
@gloryb-tv
I don't use retin-a. It's a bit too expensive for me now! I'm experimenting with retinol. I tried it a few years ago but used it according to the product package's instructions which was to use it every day. Bad idea! It made my skin super dry! Now I'm trying it by using it one night a week for month 1, twice a week for month 2, etc. Phasing it in slowly keeps my skin from getting too dry from it. But my skin showed the most improvement from vitamin C serum overall. Thanks for watching!
For 20% you would need a 5 to 1 ratio. 20% is 1/5 of 100%.
@gloryb-tv
7 жыл бұрын
It's 1 part + 4 parts = 5 parts. In that equation, 1 part = 20%. So it's 1 part ascorbic acid + 4 parts of base.
Is there a reason that you said you can't use the kind of Vitamin C you take as an oral supplement? You can get ascorbic acid vitamin C supplements that you would ingest and just crush the tablet into a powder. Is there something different about it???
@gloryb-tv
4 жыл бұрын
If you can prove that a vitamin pill you purchase is exactly the same as the l-ascorbic acid powder I recommend, then you can take a risk. I wouldn't risk it, though. Not on my face. The powder is inexpensive and comes from a lab where it's packaged. I rather buy what I know will work well.
3/8 = 1/4 + 1/8 (Because 1/4 = 2/8)
My question too! I've never come across a measurement like this. I suppose if 2/8 = 1/4, then it's a 1/4 + half of a quarter ;-)
I've been using this recipe. But it's turning my hands yellow. Do u know why?
What? That's weird. It should be completely clear. I just made some over the weekend. If you put a few drops on a white plate is the serum clear or yellow? If it's yellow it's turned already. Toss it, wash out the bottle and the dropper, and start over.
7 mins just to say: mix powdered ascorbic acid with water, dissolve, ready.
@@nimnim3973 not at all. There is a percentage table for the measurements. If they were being helpful they would have just time stamped the chart like I did. This person is just miserable and rude
Lol…
I would love to try things like this but my skin is so incredibly sensitive I'm afraid of how it'd react. :/
You might try buying a vitamin C serum from a company like Timeless first. www.timelessha.com/collections/anti-wrinkle-serums Buy one of their matrixyl serums, too. Mix the two serums in the palm of your hand before applying to your face.
You might wanna fix your skin barrier, because I use to have sensitive skin before but after a good basic skin care now my skin can tolerate more with new skincare products.
Is the vitamin E you use a natural or synthetic form ~
That doesn't matter... only matters what YOU want to use in your own recipe, natural or synthetic, for your own skin.
There are studies that relate to synthetic vitamin e as potentially carcinogenic.
