This is why you need a good chemist to understand what and how actually chemicals work. Not self named estheticians or just cosmetic lovers. Thank you Michelle ♥️

I buy bulk ascorbic acid to dechlorinate water for my fish tanks. But it has other uses! After bathing I dissolve a small amount of vitamin C and niacinamide powder in distilled water, (I use a small wasabi/soy sushi dish to do mixing) add a few drops of lanolin oil for ceramides, vitamin E to stabilize the vitamin C, carrot oil for vitamin A, and 7-12 pumps of Equate brand CeraVe. Stir it until its mixed and has a serum feel to it, and apply it all over my body. It's inexpensive, super fresh and only adds a few minutes to my after bath routine.🌱
Could you do some videos on nail care chemistry? I feel like that doesn’t get talked about much.

I have been using a collagen powder in a shake about four times a week for 6 months. it has made a huge difference with my nails. I don't have as many ridges and they just look pinker and healthier. So much so I don't even like to wear nail polish over my nails anymore.

@@LabMuffinBeautyScience not op but also very keen for this! I would like to know: - best practice wrt basic care, eg what damages nails, how to maintain healthy nails (especially when one works with cleaners, or gardens, or as a mechanic, and other hand-intensive work), different types of nails (eg my sibling has mega thick nails - they're almost claws - whereas mine are quite weak) - mythbusting, eg do nail strengtheners work, will it damage them to have them constantly painted/covered with acrylics, can you tell if someone's malnourished by the lunula or white patches or cloudiness (a common thing that my mum's naturopath frequently said) - how to recover from damage, eg injuries, infections, whether nail beds can recover from a lifetime of chewing (that one is not at all personal >.>) there's, uh, a short list for you? lol. it's not your main area of interest, of course, so i'd equally appreciate recs for scientifically-focussed sources. i don't really know enough about it to figure that out for myself and i trust your judgement ^_^

Awesome video 🤩 Thank you so much! The info provided is as detailed as it could possibly be. I've been using your DIY vitamin C serum for some time now. I've noticed that the formula you propose with baking soda stains my hands, and some time ago I stopped putting baking soda, mixing just ascorbic acid and water. I wonder if this somehow affects the stability or effectiveness 😳

Hi, I've been watching your videos and I like them so much, finally a channel that gives skin care advice which is actually baked by research. I would like to use alfa hydroxid acids, vitaminc c and some moisturizing sunscreen in my routine, could you provide advice on how to use them please? Thanks!
I JUST got into vitamin C. Been using the Klairs Drops, and the Rohto CC Melano serum. I did have sensitivity at first, but it went away after about a week.

@user-wg7fc5ps4v

It's a weak, ineffective derivative that is poorly absorbed and doesn't really get into the skin. It has shown to somehow help with acne and likely can act as an antioxidant but don't count on it for anti-aging, collagen-boosting effects, or anything else you'd want from vitamin C. I.e., look for a better version of vitamin C, ideally sticking with stabilized l-ascorbic acid.

Tetrahexldecyl acid is the good one but pricey.

@@user-wg7fc5ps4v what about ethyl ascorbic acid? i’ve heard that it has ~80%ish pure ascorbic acid
I choose retinoid rather than Vitamin C. Retinoid have the best evidence when it comes to reverse sun damage. People love Vitamin C because they can brighten their skin and presumably boost collagen production. But they tend to be on the pricier side. I'm in love with Tretinoin.
@LabMuffinBeautyScience

@llerickll1

I agree with Michelle. Why choose ? Use them both. ^^
@quillpen815
2 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure you aren't supposed to use any type of retinoid if you're pregnant or planning to get pregnant. Besides, most people use topical vitC specifically to target hyperpigmentation spots, and in some countries tretinoin is prescription-only; lack of accessibility is the biggest reason others turn to other ingredients to do fairly similar effects.
@NicePerson58
2 жыл бұрын
@@quillpen815 hyperpigmentation can be treated by using other ingredients such as arbutin, kojic acid, licorice root, niacinamide, etc. For women who get pregnant, there are other ingredients that can help for anti aging such as Alpha hydroxy acids. 9 month pregnancy without using Retinoid is okay. After they are giving birth, just use it back.

I cant find the part II ? :( thank you very much for the video !!!
Where is part 2?
I might have had a bad experience with Paula’s choice one. I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve opened the bottle for about 3 months and products were oxidised. It was super irritating that my eyes and face were swollen for a few days...at the time, I thought it was just allergy or hay fever (but I’ve never had allergy of any kind) and I went back using it and boom...my face was swollen again with impaired skin barrier😵 it took me two weeks to heal. When I googled my symptoms, I also saw a reddit thread saying vitamin c serums could cause corneal erosion if not used properly around the eye area...I NEVER thought of that!
I'm always down to learn on a Saturday 😊👌✌️🎉
Thank u so interesting and educating.😍

Hi. Have you made part 2 yet? I've hunted for it without success.
fabulous video!!
Hi Michelle! I super love your videos! I hope you continue this series so we would find out more about products with derived vitamin c (I'm using Kiehl's Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution)~
Hi Michelle! I had a question re: my ideas for modifying your DIY recipe. I am wondering, is it only the pH/concentration important for the mixture? I'm considering adapting your recipe and mixing with a portion of TO's Resveratrol + Ferulic acid serum. I'm pretty confident in my ability to pH test and adjust/calculate the appropriate concentration (I'm premed so had to do plenty of labs for chem/orgo where I had to do this and have a scale/access to pH strips), but I'm wondering if there is any other issue I might want to be aware of? (I already checked and confirmed the solubility of the propanediol in the serum so know it should mix with water without issue.) I learned a lot from your video and your serum DIY - thanks!
I suggest trying the Cosmetic Skin Solutions 15% Supreme CE serum. In addition to ascorbic acid and vitamin E it also contains glutathione and arbutin. It does use alcohol as a penetration enhancer but the asciactic acid and hyalutonic acid are good at mitigating irritation. I have never had this oxidize even at the end of the bottle which for me is 6 months. THis is my favorote of all the many ascorbic acid products I have tried.
