DIY Anti-Aging Vitamin C MOISTURIZER | New & Improved Recipe for Even Better Vitamin C Serum

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

YEARS AGO (I won't tell you how many) I posted a video to KZread of a DIY Anti-Aging Vitamin C Serum. To this day, it is my best-performing video! If you're worried about aging skin, Vitamin C NEEDS to be in your skincare routine. But, as I've discussed before, Vitamin C is very unstable and should be made at home, instead of purchased at a drug store. So I created this recipe for a deeply nourishing moisturizer that has an amazing form of Vitamin C in it - I promise you're going to LOOOOVE this recipe!
Here is the link to my original KZread video! • DIY Anti-Aging Vitamin...
2 tsp beeswax pastilles // amzn.to/2LmI005 If you want you cream to be less thick and balm-like in texture, just use 1 tsp beeswax pellets
2 tsp coco butter // amzn.to/2LmKWKd
2 tbsp rosehip seed oil // bit.ly/2AxgVSP
2 tbsp squalene oil* // amzn.to/2PIgt9V
4 tbsp distilled water
1/2 tsp magnesium ascorbyl phosphate (Vitamin C) // bit.ly/2S4WV1p
4 tsp vegetable emulsifying wax // amzn.to/2Ciao0p
20 drops of geranium essential oil // amzn.to/2R3db5G
20 drops of frankincense essential oil // amzn.to/2QBXOlD
* If you don't have squalene, you can omit it - The recipe holds up without it!
For those of you who want to learn more about squalene, check out this blog post!
www.liveabout.com/what-is-squ...
STORAGE: To preserve, store in fridge for up to 6 months. To increase the preservation of your product, you can add 1/4 tsp of Grapefruit Seeds Extract www.nutribiotic.com/maximum-gs... in the final stage of mixing.
TO USE: Always use a popsicle stick or spatula to scoop balm out of container, this will keep bacteria out. If you have very dry skin, you can use morning and night. If you skin is combination/oily, use as a night cream.
And if you don't have time to make your own Vitamin C Moisturizer, check out this awesome alternative from goPure Naturals // bit.ly/2ztO16e

As a cerified formulator of natural skincare products. May I offer a few suggestions and a bit of advice here, that you don't use refined Rosehip oil, (the more orange the rosehip, the more beneficial), the one you've used has no colour so has likely had the benefits refined out of it... and don't melt rosehip or the sqaulene in with the butter and beeswax. Instead, mix it in after the melted butter has cooled slightly otherwise you're heating the properties of the rosehip and will damage them. The water phase needs to reach 70 degrees. It's also very important to bring to correct temperature, and not to add the essential oils until after the formulation has decreased to below 30 degrees. When using essential oils in skincare, it's also crucial to stay within the safe dermal limits and they shouldn't ever be more than 1% of the final formulation for leave on products. (this also depends on the essential oils you are using) never measure by drops, but rather by % of formulation. Also when adding ANY water phase to skincare, it needs a preservative to protect against mold, yeast and bacteria which can't always be seen by the naked eye, yet still may be present. This formulation wont be safe to use beyond a few days, if not refridgerated, and maybe upto a week or so, if refridgerated. Sorry, but grapefruit seed extract is NOT a preservative, but an antioxidant. It may help prevent from rancidity, but it WONT preserve the formulation. Plus, it needs to be checked for pH balance. Formualtions should be broken down in phases: A, B, C. Your emulsifying wax should be heated with your butter and wax, the water heated seperately to 70 degrees. Then blended together. Then when the mixture has decreased to 40 degrees you can add the Rosehip and Squalene and Vit C powder to keep them stable. At room temp, you can add the essential oils and a preservative. Once again, if you're adding water to ANY formulation, a preservative MUST be added. Grapefruit Seed Extract is not a preservative, nor are any essential oils. Hope this helps...:)

Her advice needed to be presented here in the comment box since the video has gone public and users needed to know of this helpful and important advice. This video has not been corrected, therefore, the only way we would know how to make this product safely is by reading this knowledgeable persons advice. A comment box is available for sharing all kinds of information and feedback, including helpful and important information from a trained skin care expert. Her comment was not demeaning or negative in anyway so why would anyone get offended? I am very happy to know how to make this product in a way that will be more beneficial to my skin and not grow bacteria. If Sophia would have stated that the product should be keep in the frig and will only last a week or so, the skin care expert probably would not have felt such a strong need to voice her guidance and opinion to all of us. I don’t want to use a moisturizer that is ineffective or growing bacteria. Why would you? I had planned on making this product today and now I will be able to make a much higher quality and lasting product. I don’t have the time or money to waste making an inferior product. Thanks Cotton Blossom Skincare! I really appreciated your time in sharing your expert advice on this recipe. I’ve never heard of you before but I am going to see if you have a channel of your own right now!❤️

Say what you will about oils not moisturizing, but this has proven to be a remarkable product. I started using my own mix of Sophie's Vitamin-C serum and hyaluronic acid serum November 25th of last year. Within the first month I met three different people who were visibly stunned to learn my age. The serum did nothing to moisturize, so I made up this cream early this year, and the results have been quite remarkable. While enjoying a nice restaurant dinner with my son last month, we encountered a friend of his who mistook me for his SISTER! Nothing like that ever happened when I was using top-of-the-line commercial products. I'm 70 years old, I don't color my silver hair, and I wear no makeup at all, so this man's mistake was the result of my skin care, nothing more. Two thumbs up, Sophie. Obviously, this works for me.

OMG, THIS MOISTURIZER IS AMAZING! Thank you so much for sharing this incredible formula, Sophie! I made this and my skin looks 10 years younger. The fine lines around my mouth (laugh lines) have greatly diminished. Can we talk about the glow it gives me? Awesome! I made one alteration: I substituted squalene with pomegranate oil because my Amazon shipment arrived late. Also, I didn't have geranium oil. Next batch, I will be making it with your exact formula. I'm so glad I found your channel because this is an answer to my dry skin dilemma. A BIG thank you!

Hi Sophie. I´m a fan of yours. I´ve discover you around one year ago and I love to see your videos. Keep up the excellent work. I´ve seen all your videos on the vitamin C. I want to start using it, but I have some questions. If you could take the time to reply to me I would be extremely grateful. Can you recommend other companies/ websites besides making cosmetics.com as that one doesn´t ship internationally. In my case would have to be to Europe. Do you recommend using your Vitamin C serum (second recipe) with L Ascorbic acid followed by your vitamin C new moisturizer with magnesium ascorbyl phosphate in a morning routine? Do you recommend using it both vitamin C serum and moisturizer in the morning and night routine? Or using the vitamin C serum and vitamin C moisturizer in the morning and retinoids at night? By the way, I know it´s off topic but I´d love to know your opinion if you can. Are retinoids better than Alpha Hydroxy acids? Thank a lot.

Hi Sophie.... 1. What about using the Camu Camu powder along with or in place of the Ascorbic Acid crystals? 2. When you add the Ascorbic Acid crystals to the heated wax solution, won't you destroy at least some of its properties? Ascorbic Acid crystals are very unstable and deactivate in light and heat. Thanks....

This form of Vitamin C that she uses, called Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, is a very stable version of Vitamin C and can be held at a temperature of about 175 degrees (F) and won't start to degrade for ten hours or so. So, just heating high enough here to dissolve in the water won't hurt it and it is stable in the formula.

Hi Sophie! I've been making home products, and homemade personal care but I confess that I was worrying about homemade facial products. Especially because everything I use is anti-aging. But after what your video I'm very excited to give it a try and see if it works for me. I have some questions... 1. I'm vegan and usually I replace bees was for candelilla wax. Can I replace it in this recipe? It's important to use bothe wax? 2. If I use Candelilla wax which is from vegetable, do I still need to use vegetable emulsifying wax? 3. Usually I use vitamin C serum 20% (that also contains hyaluronic acid) every morning because it's the perfect combination with the Retin-A that I apply at night(5 days a week). If I start to use your DIY moisturizer which already contains vitamin C, should I stop using my Vitamin C serum in the morning?or can I make this DIY cream with 20% vitamin C? 4. I just saw in that making cosmetics.com sells Hyaluronic acid. Should I add this in this recipe to make it more anti-aging effective? Sorry, this is my first face DIY product and everything I have used contains Hyaluronic acid which is known for fight anti-aging, but I don't really know scientifically if everything should have it in the ingredient so if you can help me with that would be amazing!! Thank you :)

Hey Camila! If you want an easier recipe for a Vitamin C Serum, just exactly like the one you buy in the store, you can check my Vit C Serum video. What you are doing right now, combining Vit C in the morning with Retin A at night, is probably the best you can do for your skin. If you make your own Vitamin C serum, you should not use it twice. Finish the store one first and then make your own. If you want, you can add Hyaluronic Acid to it. Its main effect is moisturizing, so if you want to keep it simple and inexpensive, use the Vitamin C Serum and Retin A + any moisturizing cream. Hope it helped!

Hi Sophie, I'm new to your channel and seem to be turning a while new corner with homemade products, fitness and diet combined. I'm a biological scientist from Durham UK and have been researching the science of nutrigenomics and absolutely I'm loving your videos, I've made your coconut milk/lavender/aloe vera shampoo and was really impressed with how easy it all was. So I decided to jump in and make this recipe and super excited to see it's benefits, however my rosehip seed oil was orange not clear like yours and thus it gave more a yellow cream, is this ok Your newest fan, much love Tracy x

Thank you for your reply Sophie really enjoying my new Vitamin C regime the serum on a morning and cream on a night is working marvellously and I'm thoroughly enjoying your channel. I'm making my own Almond milk now and using your idea of soaking the chia seeds in it to make a creamy morning yoghurt consistency for my soaked almonds and berries, what a fantastic idea loving it. Thank you xx

The refrigerator, unfortunately, will not keep it from growing bacteria - especially since your fingers will be going into the jar daily and will introduce bacteria into the formula. These bacteria can be extremely dangerous and they can remain invisible for quite a while and still be very dangerous. They are most dangerous to people who have skin problems, sores, are diabetic, or have low immune systems. Sepsis can form in the body. Mold can be invisible and spread it's "tentacles" throughout a formula and completely overtake it before the spores are even visible to the human eye. An effective preserving medium is extremely important. I am for as natural as you can get, so I use one called "Vegecide" and it can be found in various lotion making supply companies online. It's extremely mild and rates a "1" on the EWG Skinsafe Database online.

Hi Sophie I am new to your channel and cannot get enough! I have a question about the vitamin c cream. My skin is normal/combination and in the past if I use creams that are too heavy on my face I tend to get white heads. Would you recommend using this formula for my skin? And if not can you make a diy lotion for the face that is lighter and targets sunspots and discoloration from spots. Thank you!

Too much, especially if you're already seeing some redness. Here my best advice: Vitamin C can be used sparingly, and you'll still see results. Try going to every-other-day (or every two days) - Just make sure the products you use in-between are soothing!

I am so discouraged at the moment...So I have really bad discoloration, I look like I'm tan on my face, and I look like I was wearing sun glassed out side because the skin around my eyes is really pale compared to my whole face??? It has happened in the last 2 yrs for me and I have tried just about everything natural and pure that I can think of and I'm about to say FORGET IT! and get some products that are not so natural to take care of the problem:(( Do you have any suggestions or any DIY recipes that could help my discoloration? Thank you SO much! Emily

You want to do some peels on a regular basis, and use tons of vitamin C - I recommend using my original Vitamin C DIY serum every morning. But, I have to say, it might be your sun damage coming out, and if that's the case, the only thing that will totally deal with that, is laser. I have a lot of sun damage/discoloration too. I didn't take care of my skin in my teens and twenties and sunbathed in hot sun with BABY OIL on my face - I am considering a laser down the line, but for now I just treat it with Vitamin C, and regular peels.
