DIY Regency Drawstring Dress - With Pattern

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hello Everyone,
In this video I will be sharing the steps to sew a Regency Drawstring Dress, and you can find the downloadable PDF pattern in my Etsy Shop, KittyJBerry.
www.etsy.com/KittyJBerry/list...
This dress is inspired by many of the lovely dresses in Bridgerton and extant gowns, and regency fashion plates.
The dress features a drawstring around the neckline and under-bust. What's great about the drawstring is that there is lots of flexibility in the fit of the dress. Simply pull the drawstrings at the back of the dress to cinch it to fit your unique shape. I also love that you can make the drawstrings and their casings from the fabric, so everything matches and there is no need to purchase extra notions. All you need is fabric and matching thread!
This video is a bit of an updated version of my Princess Core video from last year. Since then I have made a PDF pattern I wanted to revisit this dress and try to explain process to put it together. I hope you are able to follow along, and I am looking forward to hearing your feedback! If you do end up using my pattern please show me / tag me on Instagram - I love seeing everyone's amazing projects.

Very helpful video, I'm about to start on my own gown right now!! But I think that a less-busy fabric print would have been much better for seeing the details of what you're doing,

does this dress work with the regency chemise and stays? or will they other regency dress pattern work best with those?

  • @KittyJBerry

Yes, This dress can be worn over the regency stays and chemise. You will still want to create a mock-up of the dress / dress bodice and try it on over the stays to make sure everything is sitting correctly.

How did they make all these dresses by hand? It must have taken weeks to do!

Why did you not make neck casing on bias? It seems it would have more easily gone around the curve… Also curious as to why you did French seams instead of the traditional 5/8” seam?

  • @DulceN

Very likely because the neckline would be gathered with a drawstring, so it would not matter much. As for the French seam I would love to know, too.

Hi There, in the description of this video there is the list of materials used, and in the description of my Etsy Pattern there is more details about materials. For this dress I used 5 meters.

5 or 6 yards/meters. It says it on her Etsy page and in the video description.

I was wondering how she's not pressing. I was taught to always press when I sew in high school home economics.
