I've been wanting to make a modern regency dress for ages now! I still haven't gotten around to it but your video is making me want to make one now! I just wish op shops were open so I could go find fabric

Alicia Estelle That’s great! 😊 Regency dresses make a great summer project. But yes it has been hard with the store situation.

Wow, this is exactly the type of tutorial I was looking for and there was only one other video like this but it was too complicated and long. Thanks for this.

🙏 Drafting sleeves is something I have yet to try, and my mum has hundreds of commercial patterns, so I am tempted to simply draft (copy) the shoulder and sleeve shapes OFF one of those, onto wax paper. Then at least I know my should SLOPE and my sleeves HEAD and seam will be correct. The rest is just calculating the length and width to match ones body. You are an inspiration. Thank you. ⚘

wooden kat If you have a basic bodice pattern in your stash, you could use that as a base without having to draft (much). This kind of dress is very forgiving ☺️

@@KatherineSewing I just barely started sewing my own clothes in March. I have successfully completed a pair of pants, a skirt, a quilt and an apron. I have a shirt to try next. My pattern stash is still limited and I don't have anything that looks like that. I will keep practicing tho, and buying patterns! It's what has kept me sane these last couple months.

So you know how vintage machines can do really tight nice stitches? and how modern machines have a recommended stitch length? Do we need to do a similar stitch length as the modern machines when sewing? Or can we use the smaller stitch length? haha i guess im just wondering whats necessary and who came up with these guidlines? im new to using vintage machines so i wasnt sure if it mattered...

Personally, I prefer using smaller stitches than what is recommended in the modern day. "Correct" stitch length is very subjective - historically, much smaller stitches were used. I prefer this look because the stitches "melt into" the weave of the fabric.

Do you know where you got this linen? Seeing this in my recommended made me do a double take because sometimes I draw forms of outfits and I once drew one that looks exactly like this dress!

It would help to show more detail. Specially the pattern. It’s not on your blog post as well. Or at least show the pieces properly laid down. Did you draw the string all around the neck line? It doesn’t look gathered on the shoulders. Otherwise very nice colour. It suits you so much.

Iveta Wells Thanks for the input. The pattern was self drafted, and yes the drawstring goes all around the neckline. 🙂
