Making an Ancient Egyptian Broad Collar (+ more jewelry)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I love studying Ancient Egypt, and I'm so excited to share with you some of the jewelry found throughout Ancient Egyptian artwork, in tomb paintings and on statues and figures. I have also shared my experiments in recreating the famous broad collar or usekh / wesekh. In this video, we will look at extant jewelry and see how some reproduction items work in real life!

Amazingly vibrant colours on the reconstruction. Really brings home what a colourful civilization ancient Egypt would've been.

I’ve seen a few cosplayers mess up their Egyptian costumes by using silk instead of cloth and it makes me very angry.

There’s not much Ancient Egyptian cosplay or re-enactments now a days. There’s some great Egyptian cosplay on Deviant-Art.

You can buy one from ethiopia, somalia, southafrica, kenya, nubia etc. They still make them today from ancient times. Go look them up.

Hi, and thank you very much. It's always nice to find somebody who can show you the confidence to continue on your path. I have been looking for a authentic Egyptian Ramses war outfit, Headdress, collar, skirt, sandals arm pieces. Mainly black and teal with other colors mixed in with no luck. I am a 1 mile, 1500 m racer and when I show up at the track I want to wear my war outfit to do my pre-training before the race. My nickname on the track is The Knightmare. Because of your video I will be able to make my collar and jewelry. I am also going to go out and buy my own sewing machine and make my own head dress, skirt and everything else that I need to show up and shock the world. After my warm-up I will run the race and win the world record time for the 60 to 64 year old master division. It is a dream I have. Thank you, Barcia

You can find them in plastic I've discovered but I can't find them in clay or ceramic. Really annoying because I refuse to use plastic.

What beads did you use. I've been trying to find clay or ceramic beads in the right shapes for years but can only find plastic (refuse to use plastic, I used ceramic the first time but that collar went ''missing'' - most likely nicked - from a display and haven't been able to find more) so would appreciate knowing where you purchased your beads from and what they are made from.

Hi! We are looking for beads like the large turquoise tube beads. Can you help us figure out where to find them? We ordered some on Etsy only to receive them and they were too small. It’s for my daughter’s project for school.

If you aren't fussy and it's for school try a good bead shop, they are easily available made from plastic - look fairly realistic as well even if they aren't - but if you want clay or ceramic (which is very very heavy and you need seriously strong fishing nylon to string them on) I can't help. I've been looking without success for a couple of decades now.
