Looks awesome. For the edge, I would probably just go with solid maple. Little more expensive but would be better than dealing with the iron on edge, especially for a table that gets used so much.

Sooooo glad I found this channel!!! I'm taking on a similar project this weekend (but not welding the legs...I ordered those on etsy) and am building the table top. My design is going to be different but I like how you showed your construction technique. I fell like there are so many ways to achieve an end result that I have to figure out exactly what construction I personally want to take on. This was very helpful.

Love it! Have done a herringbone table, but didn’t seem this doable! The nail gun marked everywhere it was used no matter how lightly I applied it. Then because I had to use a horrible oil based stain (didn’t realise it was until I got home, but it was the on,y one in the colour I wanted) I couldn’t fill the dents because they showed up horribly in the finish, had to sand them back off again and re-stain. Might have to make another one..

Cool idea man. Turned out great. Off topic but I love the simple baseboard you used in your house and the window trim. I want to replace all the cheap looking builder grade base in my house with a 6" wide primed pine board. But I have the bullnose corners on all my walls so that concerns me a little. I really don't like those small pieces that guys install on the bullnose so I am debating on just doing 45s. Any thoughts?

Why not screw the ply aprons/ fame on form the inside of the table to hide nail holes? And same with the top. You could’ve shot a brad from the bottom up when you had your piece in place and than screwed form the bottom side to hide nail holes on the top. Over all it came out amazing !

I'm building an 84"x84" table for mom. The top will be made out of common board, It will have storage underneath with 2/3 of the top opening up with lift hinges, like what one would use on a coffee table. In your opinion, would 1" mdf (I have a sheet out back) strips be enough to support the weight in the middle or would I possibly be better off getting angle iron to try and keep it from sagging? The open space in the table will be about 2 1/2"-3" she plans on storing board games, placemats, napkins ect in it. There will be a lazy Suzan kind of in the middle of table top. I'm just thinking that gravity will eventually win and the middle of the table top will sag. Nice job on your table by the way. New subscriber.

@@MrBuildit it's a kitchen/dinning table. I'm usually for over kill if I am building it. I just know it will eventually end up sagging from the use of plates and such. But the two sides will lift like a coffee table, with 1/3 0f the table not moving but with storage underneath. When I get it completed I'll send a pic if you want. I had this idea for the table awhile ago, then mom saw a home reno show where the kitchen/dinningtable as the same concept, she said she liked it. I said "yeah, that's what I want to do." Lol

@@MrBuildit sure. Hopefully it'll be done by Monday. There are a few projects still in front of it. And a situation with the family could shift project and choir priorities around.
