DIY Overland Truck Camper Part 10 (Roof Lift System)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

So this is the pop up system I made for the roof. I planned to have this at both ends. And have a mechinism at the front end at the moment but not sure if I will keep it and make it go up evenly or just have the one end pop up. With both up it is a bit on the wabbly side. And it tends to want to lean a bit. With just the back, there is plenty of head room throughout the camper. And it is very stable. I will keep it like this till the inside is usable and then decide what to do before I get the canvas installed.
EDIT:
I now have a website that you can visit to see all the items I've used in this build. while each individual email will have links to some of the products that I use in this build. This website will me a more complete collection. Thank you again for watching.

I'm always looking for truck camper inspiration and I just found your build series today. My first truck camper setup was very simple but I just bought a second truck to replace the first one. I'm researching what I would like to do differently this time and your build out has definitely given me some good inspiration. I look forward to seeing more progress on this.

I thank you very much for the comment. It's nice to see this project helping out others. Makes this sort of build even more rewarding.

I first wondered about how it would stay up then ya showed the latch system. Learning curve. Figure out ways to do what you want to do then figure out how to improve on it. Good deal. Simple , clean, no nonsense. Im sure you have looked into closures like what's used on rear hatches of SUV's and hoods and such. This is a really cool project and more so that it is a prototype for you to learn from as you go. Lot of us getting to learn with ya as ya go, too.

That's the goal of this. Other then the Line-X. Everything is relatively cheap. So I don't mind changing things up. My real expenses are from the items that go into the camper. And once I build a more permanent structure they will all follow. And I wont lose any sleep at night from money wasted. Plus. It's fun trying out different things.

The top is smart. Makes for a lot more room. Good idea.

It really does. The idea is that it can stay down if I'm travelling and don't want to get any unwanted attention. And still be able to sit upright. But if I go camp somewhere and want the extra room then its just a mater of popping the top up.

The price tag of a new cap to match my truck made my jaw drop. Two caps equals a truck camper. So I decided I would have some fun instead.

I like the shape of it. Perfect for doing just "some" camping, and not the full on monstrocities they sell ready made. This does not look out if place to keep on truck permanently.

Thank you. I like the idea of a permanent structure on my truck. I love having some other the creature comforts everywhere I go. Like my fridge and a place to take a nap.

Awesome work👍. If it was me I would get something that locks the roof in the up position. In the words of my kids.... shiny let's touch it lol.

Right now I only have that latch. But that rear system is going to be adjusted over the next few weeks as I change how it works. I am looking at the possibility of solid panels. If that happens then they will do all the heavy lifting when the roof is up, and I wont have to worry about it coming down as it will lock in multiple areas. If I go with canvas I'll have to look as some other options. But thanks for the suggestion. My kids are no different when it comes to shiny objects.

Just a suggestion sir. Your camper is very cool. They do make leafsprings that are 600 lb constant wieght. That might bring your rear end back to normal height. Great biuld.

Very cool build! I’m working on one right now, and started thinking about the amount of weight that’s going to be put on the bed rails. Did you ever come across any information regarding weight limits on the bed rails?

Before I started the build I had done some sketches on paper and a 3D model on my computer. But that was just for the shell so I could see what it looked like. Most of it is a small sketch on paper the night before and trial and error during the build.

@@RecceCampers I meant for the latches on the outside holding the roof down? or do you have to unlock them with a key or something?

  • @RecceCampers

    @RecceCampers

    3 жыл бұрын

@@keanu3260 no. They are the same latches you would find on a tent trailer. The inside could work. But the that only applies to the rear latches. I would not be able to access the front ones if they were inside. It would make it a bit nicer though.
