The first was amazing this one is perfect...
For the 1st build paint job, you can make a graining brush by cutting thick and size size retangular chunks out of old or cheap paint brushes. You can apply dry brush, let dry then apply a even thinner coat of the watered down brown paint, followed by a coat poly. urethane. This kind of faux painting scenic painters use for sets and props in Theater productions.

can I use normal sandpaper for sanding

What do you mean by normal sandpaper? You should sand in steps. 60grit, then 120grit, then 220grit. This will allow you to get the finest finish.

I used a vinyl cutter and cut the words out of gold vinyl. I did not paint on the letters. Then I sprayed a clear coat over the entire broom, to include the letters. So they are sealed in.
Its amazing! Please create the Firebolt... and your own broom 'brand'! :D I post the first video of Nimbus 2000 for Harry Potter Hungary in facebook. :))

Beautiful job but the Nimbus 2000 has a round stick and yours is flat so it bugs me a little! Otherwise I'm impressed

Sap, I thought that too, but someone showed me a replica that they bought in Japan. It was plastic but after seeing that I steered way from going completely round. Thanks for your comment. Jon

I tend to think the bristles came out better on the original. But when you see the difference in the wood in person, I think it would change your mind. Ask Crystal Bondsteel she now has this broom hanging from her ceiling.
