    Hopefully you can still answer this but what type of fabric do you use? You really have inspired me to give sewing a try through this video! I purchased a brother sewing machine and I'm really excited to try, but I'm a complete beginner so I'm learning (googling haha) fabrics and what the different types are, a little confusing but I'll get it! But what fabrics should I stick to for this type of hat?

    Just a suggestion, you should use spray starch and a hat rack to keep the hat in place in order to shape the hat; I've done it restoring some of my snapbacks and it worked pretty well. I use "Niagra" brand starch.

    I believe I used a nylon material. You don't have to use the exact type of material, it just has to be soft. Yeah that's just a strip that's stitched onto the brim.

    I just want to say I love your tutorials and I appreciate the fact that you're sharing your knowledge and encouraging people to be more creative, rather than just hoarding all your tips and tricks like some other people do. I'm about to start learning how to sew, and my mom had bought a Janome "Sew Mini" sewing machine a few years ago to sew for her scrapbooking, but has never opened it. Do you know anything about this machine? And do you think it would be a good machine for me to start off on?

    Most machines have little line right next to the dog feed that measure 1/4 inch 1/2 inch and so on to 1 inch sometimes more for seam allowance. This is just so you won't have to draw on the seam allowance, it'll save time. A bias is a piece of fabric cut on a 45 degree angle to the grain of the fabric so it can stretch. Just some Knowledge for you. As Always Great Video. The 5 Panel Looks Dope. Oh where'd you get your magnetic sewing guide?

    Super awesome video but I just had a few helpful hint from one sewer to another. 1if you have your pins be perpendicular to the edge of the fabric instead of parallel it makes it easier to pull them out as you sew and if you accidentally miss one and it goes under the foot it won't cause as much damage. 2 DO NOT USE YOUR FABRIC CUTTING TOOLS TO CUT ANYTHING BUT FABRIC it is amazing how fast paper can blunt the blades and its easier than you think to break your scissors trust me I've had it happen. 3 iron everything even if you don't think it needs it iron it anyway if you can't put the iron directly on it put it on a low heat keep it an inch or two above the fabric and steam it instead. I just want to help I'm not trying to be mean you don't even have to listen if you don't want to its just what I've learned from experience.

    Emma Ashby Thanks for the advice! This video was made when I first started sewing (about 2 years ago). So I didn't know much. But since then, I've learned to switch my pin's orientation, use my rotary cutter only on fabric and always use an iron.

    ***** I've read that when you wet it and shape it, then dry it, it will harden and hold that shape. I've seen it on the inner two front panels of some 6-panel snapbacks. Saw the info about it on some millinery videos. I would like to try it, but I sold my sewing machine! gotta wait till I can buy one again X-(

    I haven't come across the actual material, but i'm pretty sure there's many alternatives to that. It seems like that material would be too expensive to slap on every single 5-panel made.

  • @Cloudvill

    @Cloudvill

    10 жыл бұрын

    ***** well not necessarily because you can get a yard of buckram for like 3-4 bucks are yard at joanns or online, that yard would prob be enough for dozens of hats, but you are right that there are probably alternatives, and either way, your 5-panel that you made holds a great form without it. If i ever get around to trying it out, I'll let you know

    How long did it take you to do this? And what's the best type of fabric to use for these hats? Sorry if you answered these already, I'm a new subscriber and I love your work!

    If you want the hat to keep a certain form, buy some cheap hair spray and spray the inside. It'll act like starch on clothes but better

    Fork&SpoonTS I don't make customs, but I would probably sell one for $15-20 if I did sell them.

    Gabriela González If you print the template true to size (On a regular piece of printer paper), you won't have to worry about measurements.

    I don't think your template will work for me. I recently bought a wig to switch hair colors without having to dye it, so I need a bigger cap... Any idea where to find a template for a bigger size? :(
