Just want to say I’m really enjoying your livestreams. Glad you’re back up and running. I’ll probably never make ‘‘em live but thanks for uploading them. People playing rounds on the simulator while talking through their shots and thoughts is really good content

Thanks! Probably a small niche but I enjoy doing it. Hoping to play some sim round courses and then actually go to the REAL course. Think it would be an interesting perspective. Cheers!

Thanks for doing this. I am sure many people are considering putting one together and now they can see all the costs for things they probably hadn’t thought of.

Thanks, that is the idea. Another thing also is hopefully just getting more information out there on what it takes. I feel bad for someone who might contact one of these sim companies and might be oversold on equipment or software by not knowing of other options. Cheers!

Love the videos, literally decided to do this after watching your first Build a sim cost video. Felt I knew what I was getting into after watching. Grass for garage coming Monday, projector and enclosure in sitting room waiting for grass first. Can’t wait. Oh and gaming laptop due Tuesday so I can load GSPRO 🤞🏼

It took me about 8 months of research before building my simulator. Mevo +, GS Pro, Carl's Place Enclosure 10 x 8.5 x 5, Carl's Premium Screen, Optima GT 1090 projector short throw, ground mount for projector (RV ceiling is 16 feet high). My turf is combination of Net Return premium 10 x 6, cheap putting green 10 x 5. I put gym interlocking mats underneath the turf for more stability. My most expensive part is my gaming pc RTX 3090, Intel I9 10850, 3GB SSD drives, 64 gigs RAM ( I had it for a year and a half before the simulator. What I dislike the most about my setup is the ground enclosure for the projector. I have hit a couple of lazers off of it causing the ball to ricochet off and hit the top of the RV ceiling....some nice balls imprints as a result. My ceiling is just to high for a ceiling mount.

Sounds that we both landed in somewhat of a similar setup. I’m planning on doing a “idiots guide to building a simulator” video in the future. Basic need to know stuff. Have any tips you think I should include?

@@GolfOnTap We do have a similar set up. I love Carl's place enclosures. They are very sturdy but pricey. Make sure to get a premium impact screen (Carl's place has them). I still get a little more bounce back then I would like. My biggest recommendation is avoid a ground mount projector setup at all costs if possible....I had no choice because of high ceilings. A good short throw projector is must if you lack space. I may upgrade to a 4k short throw, they are expensive $3-5K. Have a powerful PC to avoid lag, particulary if you are going play at 4k. I like building gaming pc's so I was well equipped in this area. I really like MEVO +. GS Pro is great.

@@GolfOnTap Thanks! I try to join anyone who livestreams GSPro. I'm torn between Mevo+ and Skytrak because of space. I have just enough for Mevo+ but its close. Waiting for the EyeMini to be released for pricing to see if I should bite the bullet for a better launch monitor. I like the fact that I can buy a launch monitor like Mevo+ and still have $$ for a decent Computer to run GSPro. Upgrade Launch monitor later.

@@mattperrault8932 Yeah a big part of why I chose Mevo+ was I did have the space and that it also came with FS Golf and a small iOS E6 Connect with courses included. So it was a good hold over until where I'm at now. It's a good device and I feel it does MOSTLY represent what I see at the course and driving range.

@@GolfOnTap I think the fact that it comes with some E6 courses for free, it’s cheaper than ST and it’s got official integration to GSPro are the reasons why I am leaning Mevo+.

Can you easily swing your driver with a 8’8” ceiling

I do manage to swing driver and haven’t hit the ceiling (yet). Although I think the limited height probably affects my swing.

The enclosure is 10’ wide by 8 1/2’ tall and 5’ deep. For the total foot print of the room / simulator it is 10’ wide, ceiling is 8 1/2’ high, then the total turf/mat/Mevo+ read distance is 22’ from the wall. Hope that makes sense, cheers!

Hello there...awesome set up...im working on my first build ever and my budget is being carefully monitored by "the boss" if you catch my drift ;) LOL. i like this set up to start and was curious if you have a breakdown sheet of the big items you bought then. also with respect to the projector...i have a 12' wide by 10' high by 16' deep area in my garage i am looking to use. so i'd like to go with 11' screen but i am worried this will complicate aspect ratios etc. based on the 12' wide would your recommend only doing 10' wide screen? also ceiling is much taller than the screen enclosure ....another thing is i would like if possible to have this retractable...but seems this is more perm set up. is that the case? just thinking about items to consider before i drop the dough on all this. excellent vids and great run through of the items. excellent channel ! thanks. Bo

Hey John, grats on the build! Happy to give my best guess(es): 1. I would opt for the widest screen possible. Because ultimately you'll get a bigger image regardless of all the aspect ratio stuff, which I am still honestly confused about. Google "projector screen calculator" and you can mess around with different ratios, set the width, height, etc. to kind of see where you sit. Also, you can also technically manipulate custom ratio setting with your PC also to "fill" the screen. For me, though it wasn't really an option because I need to be at 1080p for my livestream / recording. I plan on doing a "building a sim basics" video some time in the future. 2. My last build (its on the channel) did have retractable screens, they exist, they work... it just requires a bit more planning to ensure it all comes together as intended and is safe. Google "Stealth Retractable Impact Projection Screen" and you will find it. I opted for static enclosure from 24/7 Golf for my rebuild. It worked with space after rearranging the garage and I didn't lose any functional space of the garage either. Hope that helps. Thanks for the comment, cheers to "the boss"!

Have you hit the projector yet? Lol. I’m building mine now with 8’8” ceilings and concerned about miss hits. I don’t really want to floor mount it but I think it would be safer. Curious to get your thoughts, thanks

Only one close call from actually a topped shot that (I assume) got drove into mat so hard it bounced up. A friend hit that one.. not me. Haha. Outside of that it has not been an issue. I have 13 feet of ball flight and the projector is 7 feet from the screen. How far is your screen from your hitting area / ball flight?

I’m sure you won’t hit the project, but one of your kids will, hope not. I’ve ordered my enclosure, curtains and 1” gym mats, I want to make the floor even with the mat. I’m still deciding on the projector (4k or 1080p) and the computer vs laptop. I’m mentally exhausted..lol.

I'll self admit that I am STILL completely naïve to projectors. The best I can surmise is that just make sure your projectors throw ratio works with your screen size and intended mounting point. I think some of the more high end projectors you can manipulate this within the physical projector settings.

Hey Cory, spoke with the rep and I did some testing. At the moment, the BBBGOLF promo code will save you $250 on any of the "simulator packages" not individual items. Hope that helps and appreciate the comment, cheers!
