DIY: 2018 Leaf ZE1 8" display headunit RETROFIT!

Ғылым және технология

After a few months of research, we have found out that it is possible to retrofit the new 8" Nissan Leaf center display from a 2019+ car to your 2018 Nissan Leaf ZE1.
Compatible part numbers: 25915-5SN0C, 25915-5SR0B.
This video is just a quick run-through on disassembly & running through the features on the new headunit. For more details on how to do it, visit the build thread at www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopi...

Hi. Thanks for sharing. Saw your camera displayed crossed out boxes. Do you know why that's happening and did you managed to resolve this?

Yes! It was because the cameras were missing calibration. This happened because the first time I tried this install, my 360 cameras wouldn't work so I visited the dealer who tried to enter the calibration mode but it didn't help so they didn't finish it. I finally figured out the problem with the cameras myself (just a cabling issue in my adapter) but had to visit the dealer again so they finished the calibration and got rid of the crosses. I tried looking for a way to calibrate (or rather, exit the calibration) at home but it wasn't possible on such a new car. You would have needed the CONSULT dealer device and Nissan's proprietary software and everything. It was worth the 30 mins of labor for the dealer to fix it.

I think it may very well be possible. If you've got an adventurous mind and 300€ to spare, I'd give it a shot. Just get the service manuals / pinouts for both headunit types and trace each cable to it's new location to see if every cable has a match. Then you can create an adapter cable for it and figure out how to fit it in the dash. Actually I was thinking a while back that installing a Leaf headunit may just be one of the cheapest ways to get Android Auto on any car out there, since you can get them for less than 300€. You just need to mess with the pinouts to get power in, audio out, usb in, mic in etc. The inbuilt GPS/maps may not work but for Android Auto use it's the perfect solution for a high-quality sound and screen.

@@jtr159 I already have the 2018 headunit from a smashed Leaf. That's why I'm thinking about this upgrade. But I'm not sure how to do this stuff... And how much work it's needed to do that...

@@vedranart Do you have the one with the smaller screen or the bigger screen? Smaller I suppose if it's from a 2018 car. You can find the pinouts for that headunit from the thread linked in the description. And I think the 2014 headunit pinouts are available online as well. Next step is to just cross-reference those pinouts and see if every cable from your car harness has a place at the back of the 2018 headunit. If so, congrats, you can start planning the adapter cable.

Bigger screen, more smooth operation (especially with android auto and carplay)
