    Your videos quite literally saved my life today. Had to pull my first ever serious "red stage" maneuver today after someone blew through a two way stop sign and almost killed me (speed limit was 55 I was going 60) didn't even think about it, just identified the threat, applied progressive brake pressure, pooped my pants a little and avoided becoming roadkill (by only inches) and still managed to keep my bike upright (just barely.) So I just wanted to say thanks. I've learned so much from your videos. Probably gonna stick to 4 wheels for a while after that though. 😅

  • @gnarthdarkanen7464

    @gnarthdarkanen7464

    Жыл бұрын

    Yeah, I'm with ewetho, on this one point... GET BACK OUT ON TWO!!! ASAP!!! It's amazing how easy it is to convince ourselves that it's too much risk if you start avoiding now. JUST go around the block or two and from the store for a pack of soda... ANY LITTLE THING... MAKE the excuse to take a ride, and prove to yourself (if nobody else) that the world IS NOT out to get you just for riding. I know... close calls happen. I hated the old man who mentored me back in the day about this same point... AND admittedly, you're NOT me. You're certainly not me at 15 when I just got my license and had MY first "Real" (capital R and everything) grown-up, red-stage incident on the road. Scared the HELL out of me at the time... but I made it... I had survived, and I talked about just going home and taking a couple days off... AND the very next day, the old man was there... banging the HELL out of my door. "Boy, you did NOT just waste my summer teaching you how to ride that g** d*** thing for you to chickensh*t now! Get your *SS ON THAT BIKE... We're going for ice cream!" AND that was the day I got "that speech". Even from a full-on accident... injuries and recovery and everything... Once you're back on your feet, it's imperative you get back on a bike. The old man told me you get about 3 days. I can't say that's the flat of it, but my experience (so far) is that's about right. You get about 3 days of reasonable wellness to decide that you're still going to ride or not. If the bike sits a week, you may as well sell it off and all the gear. I'm not trying to be a dick. Seriously... I even bought my current bike from a guy who had ONE close call... He nearly hit a deer, but got stopped in time. Got to the side of the road for a breather... Rode on to work... Rode back home... Took the car, and a week turned into a month... and winter set in... and my 1995 Suzuki Savage 650 was sold to me 2 years ago, with 4K miles on the odometer. He'll never ride again. It's sad. Frankly, after 30 years on two wheels... more than a dozen countries... more (probably) than a million miles... It HURTS ME that someone lost their heart for riding so easily and quickly. I LOVE this sh*t! Yeah, it's been scary sometimes. Some days it can feel like THE WHOLE UNIVERSE has conspired against you for being on two wheels... BUT I still love it. I know a lot of people who can't ride anymore because they've busted themselves up so bad they can barely scoot through their own houses... I've buried friends... I've been slapped by mommas and widows... I've been thrown out of restaurants and other places of business... entirely because of someone who "wouldn't have been killed on one of those g** d*** things if it wasn't for me"... SO I'm the last person in the world to tell you this ain't a dangerous sport. I'll also just point out that Randy Momola spent 13 years Racing AND WINNING Championships in the 250 and 500 classes of MotoGP.... AND HE RETIRED without a single serious accident and without a single serious injury on his record. You can look him up. He's a Commentator now. The point is, that while dangerous as hell, it CAN be done with a reasonable expectation of a good, long, FULL life. You do just gotta get out and ride. SO maybe you're a bit "stouter stuff" than a lot of folks, even me... Maybe it's not that serious for you... BUT it's just important enough to me, that you get this "tip". Just take her for a tootle out to get ice cream or visit the park, or just whatever's the shortest possible errand you could do... Maybe do a few figure-8's in a parking lot if one's close to your house... or take a lesson to heart and practice emergency stopping and brake-n-escapes... whatever. Don't let a little scare put your ass in a cage, please! It won't seem like a big deal at first, but you'll regret it for the rest of your life. ;o)

    In CA, I have been instructed that if there are multiple turn lanes- you have to remain in that lane during a turn. On a right turn that doesn't have multiple turn lanes, you are free to make the turn into any clear lane, emphasis on the CLEAR LANE, the right turning vehicle is the one responsible for ensuring the lane they're turning into is clear.

    On turning and not being able to see where you are going at night... With auxialiary lamps you can aim the right lamp to the left and the left light to the right. That will allow the right aux light to light up the road to the left when turning, and vice versa when turning right. Works like a charm.

    Even if your motorcycle doesn't come stock with an adaptive headlamp or doesn't have an option, Custom Dynamics has adaptive headlamps for most Harley and Indian motorcycles, as well as other brands that use the same headlamps. I'm sure there's other aftermarket brands that also offer adaptive headlamps, maybe Ciro3D or Hogworks.

But both should have been avoided by staying in the correct lane

    Who here feels that when a car illegally cuts off a motorcycle, the cyclist should be able to send the camera video to the Po-Po, to send a ticket to the car owner? I do. Something needs to be done! I don't think it should be up to the cop that shows up only AFTER a wreck -that usually hurts and/or kills the motorcyclist (and his/her bike). If honking doesn't usually solve the problem, and the middle finger doesn't teach them (car drivers), and hitting their mirror can be troublesome, then video evidence = ticket is a better potential solution, BEFORE a wreck, as then it's obviously too late for the biker!

    3:10 That's not really an open lane pattern. Open lane pattern is when the car has nowhere to go, and there's another lane the car can use to resume, or go faster. This is the reverse of that. The car had all the room to go wherever at whatever speed, and chose to jump into a closed lane. Side Answer: The YammieNoob/GixxarBrah bromance is a bit creepy, but I was entertained anyways.

    6:55 this is why I don’t like lane splitting. If you’re going to do it I think you should gun it like you’re drag racing. I started riding at 33 and lane splitting has been illegal my entire life everywhere I’ve lived until the last 6 months. I can fully understand why cars get pissed at motorcycles lane splitting as I know multiple people that have had mirrors broken by riders illegally lane splitting.

    First video. Moto stars used “there” incorrectly. It should be their. I see this a lot. There is a place. Their is someone owning something or it is assigned or belongs to them. They’re is short for “they are” and means someone doing something. The more you know.🎉

    I disagree, boots should be higher on the list, just above pants. Sure sliding down the road in jeans isn't great but Id sooner not have my lower leg smashed by a car that pulled out 😮

    I don't necessarily agree with this statement, but I do agree that boots should be higher. My thought process is that it should be higher because it is a point of contact with the motorcycle which is basically your control. I have either way you got me to think about changing something and I will put this into consideration!

    My order is helmet, boots, gloves, jacket, pants, partly due to injuries from a low side (stable ankle fracture at 10mph). Without the jacket, I would've been pretty scraped up on my forearms and right shoulder, but I'd pretty much stopped moving by the time I was on my back. Sturdier boot would've helped support the ankle when it lifted the bike while I rolled. Fun fact- ankles are NOT supposed to lift 230lbs (or whatever an XT250 weighs) by rotation.
