    Hey Dan, thank you for brainwashing me with "find an escape path". I've been watching your videos for over 2 years now. Today I almost crashed so bad. A car stopped completely last second without an indicator on a 100 km/h road because the driver wanted to turn left to a parking lot (couldn't see it early enough because of trees covering our sight). I had to break so hard, ABS kicked in like mad, I still wouldn't have come to a stop. This situation has never happened to me before, and still, I almost automatically didn't fixate the car, instead i fixated the escape path between the right side of the car and the shoulder, swerved into this tiny spot last second, and i made it! I think I watched your videos so often that "find an escape path" is stuck in my brain so deep, I didn't even have to think about finding it, I just did the exact one thing I could do and I'm so glad I didn't crash into that car. Still, I was shaking like mad afterwards :D Thank you so much for your content. You saved my bones haha!

    My usual conclusion when watching these videos is that many of these people ought not to have driving licences. In that I include many of the motorcycle riders. It also seems to me that a large proportion of them have little road/traffic experience and may well not have driven a car in their life - some of the choices are inexplicable to anyone who has.

PLAN your ride, expect anything - even snakes! Later on, at about 17:05, we have a crash, obviously due to wearing green socks, and 911 must be called - please! He should've been wearing heavy-duty green socks w/ armor protection for your ankles. And please remember what your Mom said - wear clean underwear, in case you're in an accident! Wash them at least once a month, if not more. At 26:35 we have Dan (once again) talking about increasing your space cushion. Remember, the more space cushion, the less pushing.

    5:00 people need to stop revving as a way to alert, it takes up precious seconds and focus, if you can hit your horn quickly do it, if not focus your efforts on evasion 100%, if your revving, your not using your front break, which is approx 70% of your breaking power, at least it is on my big touring bike.

  • @CaptainChrom

    @CaptainChrom

    Жыл бұрын

    Also revbombs are not a warning signal. They don't alert the drivers. A horn is a universally known warning signal which instantly puts drivers in a state of alert. A revbomb does not. I assume that most go completely unnoticed, especially if there is a lot of traffic.

  • @Fopalope

    @Fopalope

    Revbombs also have the noise going the wrong direction, out the back not the front like a horn. I know your bike might sound loud to you but people in a car will barely hear it lol

  • @GeekOfAllness

    @GeekOfAllness

    Жыл бұрын

    @@CaptainChrom I've never not gotten someone's attention revving at them. And that's on my cars with sporty, but mostly stock, exhaust (the intake is where the actual noise comes from on my cars, but it's still not that loud). Some bikes have stupidly-loud exhaust that grabs attention far better than my cars, or (most) any horn. In general, if you have time to honk, you have time to just avoid the accident. I agree way too many people honk/rev as a first action, instead of after the fact (at which point I'd rather just keep driving and ignore what is no longer an issue). But there are cases where honking or revving can alert someone, and in those cases, I don't think a horn is really any more understood than a loudly-revving car or bike. People rev for non-emergency reasons, sure. But like 99% of horn use is offensive language, not emergency signalling. So I generally ignore horns unless they're right beside me and I suspect many others do the same. The worst part about revving is if your muffler (or lack thereof) is so loud it deafens me. Now I have no idea where you are because my entire head is just screaming "zomg loud!" and I have no directional sense, and I can't hear anything else, including my own car, to assist me in doing anything else right. I play enough video games and work with enough power tools I can generally cope with impaired senses, but it's not ideal.

    And if you're going to use them, you need to (safely) get all the way to the right shoulder, angle yourself (left) towards the road so you can clearly see the entire road behind you through your window (don't trust the mirrors), wait for it to be very clear, then make your turn. Not in the middle of traffic. Given the almost complete lack of a shoulder, I don't think this maneuver was safe at all. Just wait for the next off-ramp.

I live near the Houston Texas area and my friends ask why do I ride into the city knowing everything about how fast and reckless everyone drives . I tell them I feel safer on the motorcycle because I am able to maneuver around plus I am always analyzing the traffic ahead and behind me. I’m always sitting up my escape routes and giving myself the distance to stop . There’s no need for speed to get to point B . Keep up with the videos and all the great advice.

    It may not be the best thing for car drivers to do, but they often (and I'm guilty of this on occasion too) start pulling out at an intersection (like the driver of the Jeep that triggered Mr I've Got You on Camera) without the intention of going all the way. I get it that we, as motorcycle riders, can get agitated because we don't know whether they are just going to pull out in front of us. But, at the same time, fucking chill, man. No harm, no foul. It's no reason to blow a head gasket and let it ruin your friggin day. People do this. The guy in the Jeep was a good 30 or 40 ft away from you man. Take a fucking chill pill dude.

    Wonder whats worse, a bicyclist hitting a walker or a car hitting a bicycle

  • @GeekOfAllness

    @GeekOfAllness

    Жыл бұрын

    You'd much rather be a pedestrian hit by a bicycle than a bicycle hit by a car if you were forced to choose. You have to get really unlucky to suffer major damage from a bicycle hitting your person. The speeds are much lower, the bicycle weighs almost nothing, and most of the part that hits you is round, rubber, and/or wide so it spreads the load better. There's probably more danger from smashing your head on the pavement when you fall, than from the impact itself. A car hitting a bicycle is pretty much like a car hitting a pedestrian. Much higher speeds, the car has far more mass, and the car won't deform as much. And the cyclist still has to worry about secondary impacts with the ground or other objects. There's a (very old) video of a guy on a scooter hit by a car at 30-40 mph, and the guy gets thrown higher than the traffic lights, then impacts the ground. That's atypical, but you'd never get that kind of impact with a bicycle and pedestrian. Cyclists typically wear helmets, but they're meant for hitting the ground at 5-10 mph. They don't do a hell of a lot of good against a 50 mph windshield. So the cyclist is probably a little safer than a pedestrian (both being hit by the car), but not by much. By the time you compare a cyclist hit by a car to a pedestrian hit by a cyclist, any minor safety advantage the cyclist has is completely negated. I've personally not been particularly injured getting hit by cars either on my bike or on foot. Apparently I wasn't a very S.M.A.R.T. teenager because I've had both happen multiple times. So it's not like every collision is fatal or even serious. But the odds are going to be much worst getting hit by a car than by a bicycle.

    If you ride too fast for conditions, other drivers can't see you due to your size, your dark clothing, etc. at that given speed. His trigger discipline under mild duress is on point, so he's doing better than half the cops in the world. (Not a joke.) And thousands of good guys with guns stop violent crimes all over the world on a regular basis. If you haven't seen the planet full of evidence that's true, it's because you're deliberately avoiding it. And what someone does with their own safety on a motorcycle at low speeds has no bearing on their competence with, or willingness to misuse, any kind of weapons. Yeah, a holster would be a good thing, especially when doing active stunts like this. But it's not like the gun is going to kill anyone if it falls on the ground. It appears to be a Glock 26/27, and there are a ton of safeties to prevent exactly that. The only Glock I know of that fired a round without the trigger getting pulled was a cop who stepped too close to an MRI. And unintentional trigger pulls typically happen when the gun goes into the pocket, not when it comes out.

    And pigeons are pests that people still feed. And here a guy risks his life to help a pigeon. A flying rat.

    8:03 stupid bicycle riders, they aren't allowed to filter in Australia, pretty sure they need to stay in the outside lane in most countries.
