Thanks Wayne! I think my water inlet valve motor is out, despite ready 1061 ohms. I checked a lot of stuff for continuity, float, latch, inlet valve, thermal fuse on controller(ecu) and keypad. What a pain! I think I did a diagnostic test using the keypad when I dropped in a new controller, everything lit up and I could hear the washer testing different components. It didn't sound like any water was flowing.

I got to the mesh screen by partially disassembling the valve stem. My valve tests: 0 ohm impedance test on the valve's circuit when closed/off, 70-80 ohm & 120 volts when open (water fill cycle). Working again, and my method didn't even need a new valve, so ty!

Thanks a bunch for this video with this detailed explanation from a detailed repairman. Because of this video, I was able to find my problem quickly. By removing the door cover I was able to get a good look at all the parts he mentions, and found that my overflow switch plastic housing was broken, which wouldn't allow the dishwasher to fill. I tested the dishwasher switch by removing it from the housing, and the water started to fill the tub. I removed the housing, glued it back together, with some strong glue I had, and reinstalled the switch to the dishwasher, and voila, all was fixed. Previously, I read information provided on the websites for dishwasher parts replacement, which showed a 92% chance that the water inlet valve assembly was broken. I ordered the part and installed it. Upon turning the water and power back on, the dishwasher still didn't fill. Now I was ticked off. So I came back to the internet and did some more searching, and found this video. Had I found it in the first place, I wouldn't have spent any money, and had it fixed quickly without all that time wasted on the internet and doing the install of the water inlet valve Great video.

Thank You Wayne and Sears :) I havent used my 9 Year old Bosch Dishwasher for About 7 Months since the Kids moved out :) Yea, Happy Happy Happy :) LOL It was Working Fine 7 Months ago, Now it did not want to fill with Water a few days ago, Ok, I looked at some You Tube Videos, and it looked like the Water fill Valve was Stuck, OK, Ordered a New Valve from EBay Replaced it, and it still did not want to fill with water, Hmmmm , I looked at your video and it was great, it gave me a lot of insight of where to also look, I Looked at the water level Switch, and I went to take apart the Plug Lock and the plastic lock tab fell apart in my hands, ok I pulled the plug out or I should say it Just fell out :) it was real real loose and looked to have corrosion on the Tabs, Ok I scraped the switch tabs clean and twisted them just a Tad so they would fit tighter, that worked, I checked the switch with a Volt ohm meter and it tested good, I put the assembly back together and used a Zip tie to hold the plug in Place, IT WORKED :) I Have a Dishwasher Again :) :) :) Not To Bad For a 65 Year Old Retired Female Huh :) Thanks Again, Chellie

Replacing that timer will likely fix the filling problem. Although we don't have that replacement timer at Sears PartsDirect, you may be able to find a new or used timer through a web search. Was getting so little water, it wasn’t leaking. Seal ordered. Hopefully replacing the seal grommet takes care of this class action lawsuit item. Otherwise, what a pain it will be to replace altogether. I’d have that done so if it isn’t right, I am not the one doing rework.

The meter should measure around 1400 ohms through the water inlet valve in many dishwashers. If you're measuring resistance through the valve and the meter measures .030 ohms, then you'll likely need to replace the water inlet valve.

I have a Kenmore Elite Dishwasher that doesn't seem to want to fill. I start it up and it sounds normal, but will not fill with water. When I open the door to take a look steam comes out. I am going to try and diagnose it tonight to see what the problem is. We purchased the dishwasher back in 2013. A few years back, while it was under warranty, it was working properly and the Sears Service team determined it was the motor and replaced it. I am hoping it is something simple this time.

Great tech video..... I have a Model #66514812N610 KENMORE ELITE Dishwasher. I started to notice liquid gel detergent on the tub bottom that is collecting under the door edge and directely beneath the dispenser. It seems the tub is not completely filling to wash away this detergent. I've only performed a remedial test by placing a heavy cup over the fill valve to see what happens, and if more water fills the tub, and it doesn't. With a cup weighing down the float vs. no cup on the float, the water only runs 1min 7 seconds to fill the initial cycle either way, so it seems to fill based on a timed pre-set filling cycle........ It seems that the float is non functional for the fill cycle and only a safety device, is this correct???????? The tub only fills enough to fill to the lower reservoir line of the pump/heater, and barely lifts the float. I guess I better check the fill valve for debris, so I wonder if I'm getting enough water into the tub or not to wash away the residual (1-2 table spoons) of detergent. It also seems that the inner lower plastic door splash guard is shielding this area which prevents water from washing the detergent away...... Any feedback is greatly appreciated. I have an appointment scheduled, but would rather just confirm if this or what is a normal fill cycle.

  • @searspartsdirect

The mushroom float is a safety device that stops the fill if water level during the timed fill cycle overfills the dishwasher. Your description of the water fill level indicates that your dishwasher likely fills to the proper level. The proper water level for your dishwasher is shown at 3:08 in this video: www.searspartsdirect.com/article/dishwasher-not-cleaning-dishes-video.html. Because the water fill level is likely okay, we recommend that you check the filters and spray arms as shown in the above video beginning at 1:10. Clean any clogged filters or spray arms.

Great info you provided.....thanks for your reply!!!! I had a Sears tech come out and he verified my water level is normal, just like in the video you posted and only fills to the bottom of the mushroom float barely lifting it. He said to switch to the "detergent-pods" and others have complained of the gel collecting under the door edge....however.......I did an experiment. I decided to put a heavy cup over the float, and it still fills the same so it's on a programmed timed cycle to fill the tub which he said is normal. I also tried the following, and after the timed fill cycle of 1min 7 sec. I decided to see what would happen if I added 2qts of water manually, and the dishwasher did not go into an "error" and the tub was filled and washed away all of the pre-wash gel under the door edge from the pre-wash. So, I decided to test the floats function further and stuck a fork under the float to fully raise it and I started a new wash cycle, but it filled the same, and didn't even trigger an error! Did I find another problem or is this normal??????? What would happen if there was a future malfunction, and it just kept filling since it looks like the float is really non-functional in this case, or is this normal and am I overlooking something in this machines function? Also, I always have my old water-heater fully cranked-up and I actually get 160F at the faucet on my dig. meat thermometer!!!!!....... and it still leaves the collection of wet-gel under the lower inner door splash guard. I even told the tech that I see no function of that lower plastic edge piece and the parts description calls it a "seal" but I call it a plastic splash guard. Does it have some kind of rubber seal part of that piece?????? because it does have some holes in the bottom of that plastic piece and I don't see any rubber seal inside it, but have not yet taken it off....I'm sure it's there for a reason, but I think its purpose is some kind of splash guard to stop pressurized water from jetting out from a internal hidden seal behind that lower door piece. I am going to send an e-mail to the tech who came out to tell him about my "Manual Water Fill & Fork Under the Float" experiment ! What is your expert opinion?????????? Thank you, Kind Regards, Chris

You may have found another problem in the dishwasher. Manually raising the mushroom float should trip the overfill switch so the dishwasher shouldn’t fill with any water. Failure of the overfill float switch or the connecting linkage could cause a flood if the control malfunctions and fills the dishwasher constantly instead of just 67 seconds. Here’s an illustrated repair guide with a video that shows how to access the overfill float switch in your type of dishwasher: www.searspartsdirect.com/repair-guide/Dishwasher/how-to-replace-a-dishwasher-overfill-float-switch.html. You can unplug the dishwasher and use that information to access and check the operation of the overfill float switch. Replace any damaged parts. If the mushroom float and linkage release the overfill float switch button when you raise the float fully, then you’ll likely need to replace the overfill float switch (www.searspartsdirect.com/part-number/WPW10195039/0022/665.html).

My dishwasher when new was not filling with water and I did not realize it. I rinse my dishes very well before loading the dishwasher which makes them look clean. My dishwasher would start up and go through all the cycle and when done, it was hot inside. So, I thought everything was working fine. We don't go through a lot of dishes here so it's like once a week we run the dishwasher and we handwash a lot of dishes. I finally realized that water was not going into the dishwasher every time. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. I have to do the trick method with putting in water manually every time the dishwasher is supposed to fill with water throughout the cycle which is several times. I have to know when that is to time it just right. I have finally figured out that if I turn on the water in the sink that the dishwasher is connected to immediately when it is time for the dishwasher to fill that it fills on its own. I can turn that water off in the sink as soon as it starts filling and it continues to fill. I have to do this every time when it's time for the dishwasher to fill. There is nothing stuck anywhere that would be making this happen. It's been happening since the dishwasher was first used when it was new and never used prior. Do you know what is making this happen and what I can do to correct it?

@@sadielong3021 If water fills the dishwasher when it's off, then a bad inlet water valve or faulty control is causing that problem. You can try shutting off power to the dishwasher when you're not using it. The dishwasher power supply may have a light switch beside the garbage disposer light switch beside your sink that will shut off the dishwasher power supply. Use that switch if it's there. If water fills the dishwasher with electrical power disconnected then you'll need to replace the water inlet valve. Here's a video/article that shows how to complete that repair: www.searspartsdirect.com/diy/repair-guide/how-to-replace-a-dishwasher-water-inlet-valve . If water doesn't fill the dishwasher with power disconnected then the control is likely sending electrical current to the inlet water valve when the dishwasher is off so you'll likely need to replace the control board or timer. @@searspartsdirect Ummm..maybe that reply was for someone else?? Because my dishwasher does not fill with water when it is off. My dishwasher only fills with water when the dishwasher is on. The problem is, it doesn't always fill with water when it is supposed to. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. To make sure it fills with water as it goes through the cycles, I have learned that if I have the kitchen faucet on at that exact time, the dishwasher fills on its own when it is supposed to fill. If I miss that exact time, it may or may not fill on its own when it is supposed to. So, suffice it to say, we know that the dishwasher fills with water when the dishwasher is on when the dishwasher wants to fill without me tricking it by turning the faucet on to the kitchen sink. I am thinking that it is a pressurized thing happening that somehow the pressure isn't what it should be when it should fill and sometimes it is and when it isn't, all I have to do is turn on the kitchen faucet, and then that fixes the problem for the moment and the dishwasher fills as it is supposed to. I only have to turn that faucet on for a couple of seconds at the time the dishwasher is to start filling and bamb...it fills on its own and I turn the faucet off and it continues to fill on its own as it is supposed to. But, if I miss that exact second in time that the dishwasher is supposed to start filling and do not have the faucet on, the dishwasher will sometimes fill as it should, and sometimes it won't fill at all. I don't think you are understanding the problem I am having. The problem I am having has not been covered at all in the video above or anyone else's videos that I have watched. Bottom line, why does it sometimes fill when it should and sometimes doesn't fill when it should and when the faucet is on when it should, it fills every time as it should?

@@sadielong3021 Our first response recommended that you check the water supply as shown at 2:18 in the video (or have a service technician check the water supply). Your intermittent filling problems seem to indicate a problem with the water supply going to the dishwasher.

You'd be surprised how many people don't know that they have a main water supply, let alone know where it is.
