I think the 3.0 updates were mainly needed to get increased functionality in talking to the grid, enabling their deal with Octopus. Apparently the charger is going to be compatible with their intelligent tariffs from q3 2024, and 2.0 is going to take until late q4 2024 before it’s can support Octopus’ tariffs. Also I understand Octopus have additional requirements for talking to the grid to understand local grid demand, which is not beneficial to the customer other than being a requirement for Octopus’ to bring hypervolt into the fold as a company. I imagine that’s why the 3.0 was needed. In terms of added benefit to the end user/installer, agree there’s no real difference

I have got the version 3 Hypervolt and as you said must of the changes are not realy needed. As you said the WIFI connection on the older version 3 was flakey, so I hard wired mine. Th eonly comment I had on the old one was, I thought the connections for the mains in and charge out are not very solid. But it is working fine and now they have updated the app, scheduling works better with the different modes. Great videos, cheers

Thank you. I'm not a spark, but I have a Hypervolt 3 and I commented on another video that the only difference seemed to be the case. To me, the internal electronics looked the same too, although I've only been in there once to adjust the load limiting after the DNO gave me a new fuse. I got a reply about an updated version 5 app that will have new features. Perhaps they'll let me see more of the telemetry that they collect, such as supply voltage.

@@taylorthrall7321 I haven't got anything to compare it to, as I've only used the one charger. It has load limiting, which the DNO required for the initial installation. The manual says it has solar integration, but I don't have solar to integrate it with. The fancy light show is, in my opinion, a silly gimmick. If I tell it the price of electricity then the app tells me what it costs me to charge. I like the ability to use the app to disable the charger. It would be nice if it could integrate with the Octopus charge anytime tariff. It charges my car without any difficulty. You can install the app on more than one phone and control the charge point from any of them. You can set charging schedules. In summary, it works for my quite basic use case

Does the IP66 rating cover beers placed on top of the charger whilst it’s in party mode and one is throwing a party? If so then in that case this sounds like a worthy upgrade indeed. I jest of course. Very shitty indeed to just retire one SKU replacing it with a new higher priced one and with no notice.
