All food in Belgium is great, you should start focusing more on food in general for your national identity and less on individual foods. Belgian bread, pastry, cheese and ice cream are amazing too, and the word "amazing" is the right way to describe it, it literally amazes me every time I'm in Belgium, which is not often enough.

I, as an American, absolutely adore Belgium beer! I have had the more well known brands but would love to visit someday to find little surprises and see the Trappist and Abbey breweries. Those people know what is most important for happiness in daily living. The chocolate, the food, the scenery and architecture, history, family, and heritage, all are world class! If I ever have enough money to go on a journey, that is the first destination for me!

As a Belgian and beer lover, I would like to say that this documentary offers a great view to how we live in Belgium regarding to beer. Please note that lately (the last 5 to 10 years) restaurants are even opening creating dishes around beer instead of choosing a beer with a certain dish. As stated in the documentary, we do take beer serious here :)

  • @ReddoFreddo

    @ReddoFreddo

    4 жыл бұрын

I know what you mean with "seriously special", but it's not just the beer. It's impossible to describe, I want to say it tastes good, but that puts it on the same level as Coca Cola linguistically, which is good but not _good._ like what good is in Belgium. It's just on another level of goodness in terms of taste. I don't know much about food, maybe this is what people mean with a "rich" or "complex" flavor, to me it just tastes extraordinarily good, so good I start laughing like a crazy person when I taste it.

Sven Croon I love Orval Vieux, which is the only version available in North America. I have visited Belgium several times, but I haven’t see the Jeune version, which I’m really looking forward to trying. I was introduced to Chimay bleu 40 years ago, and I like to age it in my cellar, but I prefer Rochefort 10. Even though they’re not Trappist, I also like St. Bernardus 12, Pannepot from de Struise Brouwers and Val-Dieu Grand Cru. Belgian beer is the tits.

For the dutch beers, if you only know Heineken, Amstel and Grolsch, then you're right. But did you know the Netherlands now hosts more breweries than Belgium? Sure, we can't hold a candle to the beer culture of Belgium and we are only now coming out of the deep, dark era of beer poverty that pilsner brought, but there are a lot of small breweries that try to bring back traditional Dutch beers. For instants Jopen brewery with their Koyt beer with Gagel. A herb mixture. Not to take anything away from the fine Belgium beers, of course.

Traditionally, Belgian beer is the best beer in the world. International beer cognoscenti are becoming more aware of the great craft beer being brewed in North America. American and Canadian brewers aren’t constrained by tradition which can mean that they go to far with innovation, but can produce some outstanding beer that is unrecognizable when compared to the unfortunate macro breweries that the US was known for.

  • @11thstalley96

marc0871 Brouwerij de Molen needs to be mentioned. Even though it’s a small brewpub in Bodegraven, they brew some amazing beers based on English tradition...stouts, porters, pale ales, and barley wines. One of the most prevalent trends in craft brewing involve the traditional aging of beer in wooden casks that had held wine, port, or whisky, and Molen has been a leader in using scotch whisky barrels.

Is this LCBO as in Ontario liquor board? That would be funny , because I can no longer find my favorite Belgium beers here in Ontario - Christoffel and Maredsous blond.

Maredsous is an excellent choice. I must admit I've never had Christoffel yet. Hmmm... that sounded kinda wrong :-P

I wouldnt say the mecca for beer lovers, several countries could say that, depending what you like, I myself am a Germany beer lover ( Munich ) and i'm just now venturing into Belgian beers. I AM NOT a sour l9ver at all, and beers at 8% or higher, can be enjoyed durring an afternoon drink session with freinds. 2 or 3 and your done.

Very informative, but sadly a lot of the breweries shown are now owned by ABinbev, did they sponsor your video?

+Zach Stetson because inbev buyed all those breweries, they are not all originally from inbev. If they see a lot of profit, they buy it...

Not every beer is that good, but we have some special beers and local beers and new beers that are not for export at the moment. Some old special beers gives you a taste like you had a live centuries ago and gives you a very spiritual experience but you have to taste a lot of beers to find yours. Go to special local beer dealers and you will find more special beers for special experiences. The people in the store can recommend you very good ones. They make also new beers, local beers. If you only could taste them you would feel like you are in heaven. Musicians can make some special music sometimes. The comic strips and animations are very good. I don't like guns but Belgium makes some special quality guns. Belgium is pro USA and Canada. They love also other countries in the world. But not the Arabic world. Thailand is better for example or the Carribbean area. Lambic and Geuze are wonderful. Belgium is not a spaghetti country but he best Spaghetti Bolognaise etc... can be found at Pee Klak in Strombeek. Very known by locals. Incredible spaghetti, just like the secret recepy of coca-cola.

Most of beer glasses are around 33cl in Belgium. In the Czech Republic beer glasses are much bigger, but the amount of alcohol is a lot lower. So in the end of the evening the amount of alcohol you drank is almost the same.

What? No mention of 'Gruut'? A beer that's made without hops, as they did in the medieval age, in a city brewery. The brewery actually being smack in the city of Ghent. see www.gruut.be

while it is kinda special, there are literally several hundreds of beers they haven't discussed. You shouldn't feel left out. And there was an overabundance of very commercial beers in the docu. When you're talking about belgian beer speciality, one shouldn't show Leffe or Hoegaerden, really. And not Gueuze Belle-Vue or Mort Subite, but rather Boon, Oude Cam, 3 Fonteinen, Oud Beersel or so many other better brands for that matter. But it's a docu, and one can't expect a foreigner to grasp all the delicate subtleties of Belgian beers, right?
