Discover Australia: Margaret River and Great Southern

Our ‘Discover’ series is a collection of wine webinars hosted by WSET School London educators and other experts, covering different regions or styles of wine.
Margaret River and Great Southern in Western Australia are two of the most isolated wine regions in the world. Despite both being young, with plantings only starting in the 1960s and 1970s, they have each made their mark and are now celebrated for differing styles of wine: Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon in Margaret River and Riesling and Syrah in Great Southern.
In this video, Emma Symington MW offers a deep dive into these two exciting regions. You'll learn about their differing climates and topographical characteristics, and how these impact the styles of wine they make. We’ll also discuss their history and explore why the wines they’re making today are so exciting.
