    Software instruments like these are what you make of them. They can be used creatively. They open musical doors to the majority of musicians who can't afford or access real orchestras. They only become unimaginative or repetitious if you allow them to become so. You can mix and match patterns, add effects etc. And how many times have we heard someone strumming the same old guitar pattern in a traditional band arrangement that's been done how many times on a "real" instruments? Also, no rule says you can't use this program along with other percussive elements and blend them to get your "original" sound.

    brent mosher I just wanted to insult these butthurt guys who shallowly overlooked the library, calling it not "creative" and "flexible" enough. So it's ok, now i know you're not an S.O.B. Anyway, have a great day!

    Bought it, use it and it has already improved my work flow. Since most composers don't have 100 grand to rent a 35 peace orchestra and a huge studio for hours at a time we depend on our computers and software like this. I will say its get you about 90% of what you would get with a live orchestra. If you are creative, you are creative this or no other software can take away from that.

    +alexander dela cruz they have way different purposes. and also different preferences. If you are working for a company in music production you will need every resource available to you for maximum effectiveness. Traditional orchestral projects would not have sounds from damage. maybe more modern orchestral but not traditional. Action strikes and damage are two entirely different plugins with many many distinct purposes.

    The problem with these huge sounding libraries is they are not recorded dry, so whilst they sound good on their own, it impossible to mix because they are drenched in pre-recorded reverb. ICan you confirm if these are recorded dry?

    ***** If you know the basics, all you need is imagination; visualise what you want to achieve, and aim for it. Like I said before, by manipulating the samples using only envelope, EQ and compression I am able to achieve any sound I need. Add in the ever-present reverb for depth.

  • @HarmonicaMustang

    @HarmonicaMustang

    ***** Of course, but I thought about how I want to use my sample, so I chose the drums for recording carefully and worked with them; I took a marching band bass drum and loosened up the skin. When I hit it with a soft-headed drum mallet, it gave a very deep, almost thunder-like hit. All it needed was slight compression and the right reverb to really make it present. Similar story with a Timpani and a Surdo; tuned the skin to the desired neutral pitch, and used a variety of mallets and drumsticks at different velocities to get a very wide range of sounds.

    Rob Cartwright just want to add a fact to this discussion, Hans Zimmer said in an interview concerning the upcoming movie Interstellar, that ''drums are out the window'' / he's gotten bored with them ; he is now focusing on soundtracks with strings that bring a sentiment of reverence to them... Watch the trailer for Interstellar, you;ll see what I mean by ''reverence'' ... That soundtrack from the trailer gives you the chills
