For me melodically, Mark is the best electric guitar player of all time. That distinctive, smooth, twangy, bitter sweet solos age like an expensive wine and just blows everybody away.

He's fantastic! I suppose some guitar fanatics can find other players who are "technically" better or faster than MK, but as far as getting pure enjoyment from the sounds he produces, I'm hard-pressed to find anyone better. Plus, he has a very expressive voice and a great stage presence.

@@aztekempire Once "Money For Nothing" came out, I thought they were huge! If that isn't mainstream, then I don't know what is? Love their first 2 albums because that's the Dire Straits that hit me as a youngster ~ that unique sound. Kind of a mix of Bob Dylan & JJ Cale. I lost interest after that. They have almost 2 million subscribers just on YT. That's more than Bob Dylan has!

This song is like a drug, I can listen to it as many times as I want but it will still sound like heaven

Agree wholeheartedly. It seems "Sultans of Swing" and "Money for Nothing" are Dire Straits' two biggest hits. But I can think of literally dozens of DS songs I like better.

Mark's solos on this song are even better than Sultans of Swing, and that's a very hard feat to accomplish.

One of the happiest bands I have ever seen perform.

I grew up with daily music of the Dire straits when living with my parents in my younger days. My dad was able to play every song on his red Fender guitar. 🔥🎸❤️ Played in bands and was well known in my local country area. Now because of circumstances and his age he can't play the guitar anymore. For him it is like dying a little bit...😢 Your music was and still is really his and our life ! Lady writer is one of our favorites, he also have seen the Dire Straits live end of the seventies. And lucky , now his 2 grandsons are playing the Dire Straits ...isn't that beautiful ? 💫

the drums and the bass and rhythm guitar on this track is brilliant!

I'm sitting here at 8 o'clock in the morning with a cup of coffee and watching this vid. This is all I need to get going for yet another day. This gives me energy. Great performance. Mark is a musical genius and a fantastic lyricist. He's been lauded for his incredible guitar sounds, but his lyrics over the years have been just as incredible. Truly, he was born for this. Love him and love this band.

They were young. They were playing THEN as young rockers. Except for John Illsley who never changed his imperturbable almost dandy way of giving the beat with his bass guitar,all through the years 😊
