She is pure elegance and grace. It is a rare gift no matter what the pc police says today. Not everyone is born with grace. I sure as hell didn't... I am clumsy and my own father says I should have "walking next to glass" insurance. Like a moose in a China store. That is okay... I am pushing 40 and have long come to terms with my short comings. I will never be the lady who can wear white and not spill on it or walk in heels and not bump into things. I admire that there are women who can do that. Hell, there are men who can do that and its amazing. Grace and talent are very rare these days... Especially for singers.

At a time when it was almost impossible for a black woman to get on TV, Ms. D is a trailblazer. Burt Bacharach I believe wrote all her songs for her voice - and they were very successful. She walked on stage with dignity and sang her heart out....who has any right to criticize her looks or eye makeup?? I cant imagine the weight on her shoulders before each performance.....because she was one of the first black woman who paved the way for other talented black female singers. She did it through her voice and her quiet dignity on stage. You go Ms. D. Love.

Coincidentally, the song does say "Accept me for what I am; accept me for the things that I DO.". And re: her makeup -- it reflects the times and her newness on the scene when there hadn't yet been enough time to test her makeup against the camera and come up with an ideal look. To me her sweetness and courage to take the stage show here and make this clip a very worthwhile bit of nostalgia. And didn't she become IMO pop music's foremost female singer (I put her above Diana Ross [and I like much of what Ms. Ross has accomplished] because Dionne has a quality for control and eloquence that prevails hit after hit after hit without a lot of unnecessary [in her case] fanfare.)

YES! Regal Classy and a real force to be wreckoned with. U can bet Mr. Bacharach was thrilled as he watched his "muse" work her magic on stage.....he had to know immediately the woman he chose to vocalize his songs bringing his words to life.....was going to make them both....very recognizeable and very wealthy; Ms. D was appearing everywhere with rave reviews. By that time Ms. D was wearing fancy chiffon dresses and her hair was perfect makeup brilliant.....but i love her best dressed in a summer dress with no makeup but her Cleopatera Eyes.

Yes, it's obviously a lip synch. But what daniel wrote about the violins, etc, is still valid. Bobbie Gentry recorded Ode to Billie Joe with just her voice, her guitar, and some strings like a few cellos. Look how great that came out. Still, once in awhile in the 21st century we may still get a nice surprise when simplicity delivers a stellar performance. Sam Kelly's Make You Feel My Love comes to mind in the latter category. He first got attention with his short version on AGT, and the full song can be heard here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nHmpy7KaiqrNqtY.html

Hot Head Ignoring the built-in talent of a singer (especially in the context of the time this represented hard struggle, and continues today) to praise the orchestra, no comment on what it took to rise to this level of creativeness by the singer: VERY MUCH IMPLIES A LACK OF RESPECT. Wake up.
