I laughed my way through this video. From the “dangerously attractive trousers”, to Philip’s “impeccable” measuring skills, to the questionable use of the new camera, I couldn’t stop laughing. At the end of every video, I know this for certain. Philip’s gift is humour even though he thinks it’s electrics. Ana’s gift is design and tasteful decorating.

Wooo I love this! My first vote is still to restore the mural, but that is probably not realistic in the time frame. My second vote is definitely one of the darker terracotta/reds! It will bring so much warmth to the room, I know it will look great. I agree with Philipp on this one, contrasts are fine! We have our living room fully painted in the beautiful dark F&B Hague Blue, and our dining room is bright in ivory and pale blue.

I would be inclined to go with a China Clay colour in that room - rosy, almost like fresh plaster. It’s really on trend and yet would fit the classic features of the room. And it would sit well with the rest of the chateau. You can add seasonal contrast with table dressings and other stuff in the room. Please don’t do another beige or green room (ok, not my house.....) x

Have you thought about painting a fresco above the wainscoting? You could do a garden scene (lots of green foliage, local birds, deep red flowers for contrast) like the house of the golden bracelets at Pompeii. Or incorporate more exotic animals plus portraits of yourselves, your children, ziggy, friends who’ve helped in the restoration (like the staircase mural at RagleyHall) or a Rex Whistler type of noble , dramatic panorama (Plas Newydd) Be brave and original, make it your own!

I bequeath to you, Phillip, our family battle cry as we build houses, repair cars or what-have-you here in rural east Texas. I know you’ll carry it in true spirit of careless disregard to which it is most suited. As blades are spinning, motors running, hammers swinging, we often feel the need to remind ourselves of the importance of safety and that it should not be forgotten - so we shout to each other inaudibly under the din of work: “Safety third!” It has served us well. In an entirely unrelated note, my father has 9.5 fingers from a table saw accident. Good day to you all!

I like the red but agree it doesn't flow from the adjacent room. I think the more muted deep rose would work and would give you options going forward if you decided to paint a fresco or fresco border, you could even link the two rooms more with floral art bringing in different shades of red and green tones. You could add richness through paintings and fabrics, perhaps deeper coloured lampshades - smaller details that wouldn't fight with the adjacent room.

The thing that is so wonderful about the chateau is the wonderful light and airy feel. Even the darker green bedroom and bathroom feels light because the color is muted and adjusted with painted patterns. While dark colors can be stunning in a dining room, perhaps it wont work in this house, with the color of the light panels. Also, Its so important to think of the light streaming in the room. Dark rooms tend to absorb all the sunlight, and if you live in a place with less sunshine, a lighter color is so much more rejuvinating in glommier overcast months. Maybe a very pale blue in warmer tones or the pale apricot color are best? Or even a pale greenish gray? There is a youtube video of gweneth paltrows newest dining room (open door AD) which looks very much like your home without the stunning paneling. I bet you could achieve an effect like that. Maybe paint the background color you like for the holidays and then add in the mural effect later?

Great episode!! I cracked completely when you showed Ziggy staring in trance at the colour. I am always looking forward to your vlogs - especially now when you‘re renovating again. You chateau is definitely one of the best. Viele Grüße aus Bayern und eine schöne Adventszeit euch vieren.

Anna, I think after your being burned by having to repaint a red-painted room, you are now being understandably wary about choosing something in that color range. Whatever you choose, it will be beautiful, because your exquisite sense of design will lead you in the right direction. Thank you and Philipp for another interesting, funny and engaging video.😊

Every aspect of your château has a quality and grace in your decorating choices the red in the dining room would be icing on the cake the contrast with the rest of the muted tones in the chateau would really make your dining room into a really GRAND DINING ROOM and it would be a centerpiece of your château😃😃🎄🎅🏻 MERRY CHRISTMAS from Lafayette Louisiana USA and thank you for all the wonderful content and entertaining times you all have been kind enough to share with the world🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻❤️

the darker red color on the mantel (underneath the orange, left to the muted green/blue colors) should be the paint color. Its perfect!! I am also fan of more contrast, sorry Anna, but Filip has a point.

I agree with comment on your videos being too short. They are so instructive and helpful. Philippe much more of your wisdom would be gratefully received. I also admire Anna's patience and forbearance with certain members of the family 😉

I love his sense of humour ❤😂well their sense of humour as a couple. If I wasn’t poor, I would ask if could come to stay for awhile and help in anyway. But, I am poor and old so I’ll just watch and chuckle a lot. Love and respect from Calgary, Alberta, Canada 🇨🇦 JOYEUX NOËL💖 MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎄

I usually love all of Anna's color choices... But I think the deeper red is still the most beautiful for this room! Either that or the deep blue color 😁

Oh please please, please pick red or at least the faded terracotta. The colors look so different on paper than on wood. Maybe actually paint the walls with the swatches. The red swatch next to the mirror looks absolutely fabulous! Ana, you could always make another print wall paper for the upper part of the wall to tone down the red. I’m sure you will do something stunning!

After painting rooms for what seems like forever, I do agree with your theory, Anna, of painting rooms in colors that are compatible. When I walk around my home now, there is a quiet, almost tidy feel of the paint colors being equal. In other words, no big changes between rooms.
