I can't agree when I think on my partner (infj) and me. I have very big eyes and he has eyes that he has to force to open up a lot 🤣 he has a sexy gaze. But I tend to look more dreamy, that's true. He tells me all the time people feel immidated by his gaze. 🤣 He never looks like this at me so I don't know bzt I saw photos at work and yes, he can look immidating.

The INFJ has a more focused stare whereas the INFP brother is looking up often and eyes darting back and forth as if connecting the dots in his mind. I believe I do the same as the INFP.

Interesting, they say INFJs are seen as cold/logical by other feelers and emotional by thinkers. I think this comes out here when your brother says you express your feelings more easily -which sounds backwards but it isn’t- the look on your face for a second is confused… he sees you as detached from your emotions, he feels he values his emotions more- so much so that he prefers to keep them hidden- I see this as a practical, real world example of infj not being feeling enough for other feelers…. we are more detached from our feelings, or more easily detached, than the other feeling types. Fascinating.

For me I always feel like they don’t matter as much the moment I say them. Also that I can not accurately display them. I think that closing out the world can be very INFJ. Yes! My mom (ESFJ) always asks me how I feel after big events (such as giving birth) or an emotional movie, as though she’s expecting some big response. It immediately irritates me; why does it matter how I felt? Maybe it irritates me because I’m not always aware of how I feel. When something heavily impacts me, it is hard to put into words how it impacts me, without reflection.

Amazing video, I liked the point Kevin made about Fi and sharing emotions. For me, (an INFJ) it’s not the emotions that lose their intensity when I share them, it’s the thoughts and realizations and connections that I don’t like to share much. Sharing emotions for me is my way to connect with people and help them open up. But when I share an idea, it loses its meaning, it loses its essence and becomes insignificant for me and I start to hate it because I feel like discussing it with people ruined it. That’s why I’m such a secretive private person. I don’t know if that’s Ni or Ti but I feel like it’s one of these two. Like I’m a writer and when I get an idea I’m so excited and I’m happy. But if I share it with someone and they begin to dissect it, I lose interest and abandon the whole idea and possibly hold a grudge over it.

  • @xjetfirex3956

Yeah, I can relate to that. I'm not into sharing the ideas that are deep within me most of the time. But it's not ideas themselves becoming insignificant that prevents me from sharing them, but the fact that I, most certainly, won't be able to explain it in such a way that it would be understood correctly. I must be absolutely sure that my idea is not getting misinterpreted in any way, and every aspect of it is covered entirely. I'm afraid that's nearly impossible to accomplish due to how complex it is and how imperfect such way of transmitting information as a language is. Even while writing this comment I had to make several edits and I'm still not sure that I said everything I wanted to say xd

I'm INFJ with an INFP sister. While we are similar in being introverted and sensitive, I see a lot of difference between us. My Fe goes into a feedback loop with her Fi, and it exhausts me. I want to put feelings in perspective, she wants to sit in them. I feel like I look at the evidence and keep an open mind before making a decision, where she makes a decision and then looks for evidence to back it up. I put more stock into logic, she puts more stock into her feelings. The journaling point was interesting. My sister exhaustively journals about her emotions and how she feels about things. I do not currently journal, but back in the day I used to LiveJournal, and it was much more my thoughts about ideas and external things. So you may be onto something there.

Yes. As an INFP, i don’t express my emotions much. Also, when i choose to, halfway through i come to the “realisation” that it’s not as intense as it seemed earlier (especially when it’s negative...like anger). So i just keep it to myself. Also, with anger, i analyse it first to figure out if every human/personality type would be offended by whatever offended me (basically, do my emotions make sense?), or am i just overreacting? It’s annoying, but within minutes or sometimes overnight, the anger is gone. Hahaha Also explaining my anger to the offender in a way he/she will understand is just difficult, so why bother?

INFJ, and fellow philosopher here, I have always kept a philosophy journal with notes/ideas of my readings. Only recently did I start a diary to work out my emotions because I never know how I truly feel until I write. Also, I just finished reading "The Ecstatic Soul" and found it great how succintly you applied existential phenomenology and Jungian psychology. As an INFJ,when I studied philosophy, I was very drawn to Heidegger, Weil, Satre, Nietzsche and Jung. They just speak to our souls somehow. Great job because you are really onto something.

I am writing diary and books and short stories since I can write (infp), also I write music and sing and I am so fond and happy that my infj fiance started to write and make music because he felt inspired by me and my passion for it. He wanted to be an actor or making music but because of his family and background he dismissed that idea though I know he craves for an inspiring job or hobby that gives him the opportunity to show his magnificent inner world. We also talked about making music together as soon as we r married and live together and there's nothing that makes me more happy. He writes his stories and poems just for me and I always encourage him to go on with it. I can remember when we started dating he told stories to me, it always had to do something with him but he didn't straight forward say, I experienced this. He has such great potential and I can't believe Noone ever supported him in his creativity. It makes me kinda angry. Wasted potential always makes me angry.

This was great! One pattern I picked out (and it is one that I also find with my INFJ friends) is that you started out by questioning about SIMILARITIES..trying to find common ground... wheras myself and your brother seem to find it more natural and nuanced to freely point out DIFFERENCES.. even when asked directly to think about the SAMENESS of both your personalities. Do you think that being an INFJ means you often engage with others by similarity first through Fe? and then move into Ni perspective seeking? which opens up to a wider range of possible answers? I noticed one INFJ friend will always try to reveal similarities in himself that match the experiences im sharing with him in the moment.. and not revealing differences that have the potential to cause conflict or distance.

I also love seeing you guys interact (you appear like an interviewer, like trying to distance yourself for the sake of research, but I can still see the love and warmth, but in your brother, just in the way he looks at you and talks to you, I can feel tons of warmth and love. I know he may not express it, but I just see it for some reason, it may not come out of his mouth, but it very evident in his eyes and his expression, do you see this too? He seems very genuine. Now i understand why some people don‘t see that i‘m a feeling person because like Ren i articulate my emotions very precisely, whereas the brother doesn’t analyze them (until asked to do so), but instead feels them so much that he radiates them.

Thanks for sharing! I have such an affinity for INFPs yet I feel as if every natural reaction to me ends up yielding the opposite of what they need. I hope one day I can express and be able to get closer, but in some ways I feel like that's contradictory to what an INFP wants.... they're even more private than I (an INFJ) and that's shocking. I'm private but I get very close to my inner circle and share everything. For me sharing experiences with someone feels so right. In my understanding, an INFP wants experiences but individually. Also, I always find it humorous when an infp calls an infj more selfish given that fi doms are usually the most self-centered in life perspective. I don’t mean that to take a negative connotation, I’ve just noticed their fi dom makes them heavily self conscious and in feeling overload so they’re very centered in their internal state. Which makes sense. I’m confused how INFJs can come across solipsistic. I’m often putting my own happiness on the line for objective happiness first, it sucks!

INFPs can regard INFJs as being selfish, because the end result is always that INFPs sacrifice more in action. INFJs can *feel* like they are being selfless but what they actually *do* for someone, almost always says something else. While INFPs are more self conscious, they are also capable of self sacrifice for a specific person (who is close to them) in tangible ways, wheres INFJs are more consciously aware about self preservation so do tend to withdraw more. INFJs also seem (to the INFP) to care more for social harmony rather than empathizing with someone in particular. The reality is that both are selfish and selfless in their own ways.

@@rpaafourever7908 agree. this is what I am always confused, I was mistyped to be INFJ though many test I take always showed I am INFJ I realize I feel more connected to INFP description on cognitive functions. the thing is I AM VERY SELF-SACRIFE, I adjust and accommodate my feeling to the person I talk to, sometimes I lose the sense of identity because I adjusted to the other person so much, BUT it only happens to select fews and it's in the sense win win situation, if they're being nice to me or if that person I admire deeply or having special connection with. it's very subjective to me.

I absolutely love this video. I have an INFP younger sister and she is so similar to your brother. We talk in a very abstract way all the time and sometimes we don't make any sense to outsiders. And in the terms of feelings. I am better at expressing my feelings but I think my sister is better at feeling them? If that makes sense. I find that I realize what I am feeling once I express them and put them into thoughts and words. Otherwise I kinda push it away and ignore them. My sister on the other hand has a lot in the inside and might sometimes want to share them with me but most of the time it is a personal thing for her, a secret meant to be only hers. We used to fight about that, because I always want to talk about what I discovered or am feeling and my sister does not want to be pressurized into. What's funny is that my sister is an ambivert and is much more expressive than me around others and I a lot more drained. It's kind of a contradiction because I feel more extroverted around her and vice versa. We both love to talk with each other but we can also drain each other very quickly. I found that taking a few breaks from each other makes us more fonder and re-energized haha

As an INFP, it doesn't surprise me when I read comments or hear about INFJs and INFPs not getting along all the time. People expect our types to really get along, but there are definitely differences that can cause conflict. For example, I believe my sister is an INFJ, and we can only really take each other in small doses because of differences in communication style. She is way more expressive than I am, and cares more about external harmony. She tends to find my preferences threatening because when I do state them I am pretty firm, where as she likes to keep an open mind about everything and tends to feel uncomfortable about strong preferences and boundaries. This also makes it harder for her to cut communication with people even if she doesn't really get along with them. When I suggest to her that it might be time to cut communication with people because of problematic behaviors, she takes that as an insult. And she needs validation for her decisions, where as I know what I want to do or not do before I state my decisions to others. These types of differences can cause alot of arguments but I've learned to just say "We'll have to agree to disagree" and just move on.

Honestly.. I hear a lot of Se for an INFP. Mainly because he seems to have a lot of appreciation for aesthetics, so basically how the world 'looks'. An INFP is more like an INFJ in the sense that we want to understand the world in general. In my opinion it's a common misconception also that INFP's only care about the world from their personal perspective (we value Ne very strongly after all). ISFP's tend to be more self centered generally. But that's what makes them such great artist (musicians, painters, writers), better than INFP's i think. I can see how third slot Ni can look like an INFP. But i think looking at the function that's being ignored (blindspot) is usually a better way too tell how to separate the types. I see a lot of Se in him, but no Ne interest at all. Also i believe that the MBTI test is somewhat biased against sensors unfortunately. Which i don't think is fair. I don't wanna be just another 'KZread smartass' who thinks he knows better. Just wanna share my thoughts because i think ISFP's are often mistaken for INFP's. Which creates stereotypes that are often not beneficial for both types.

Maybe my brother's Ne doesn't come across in this video, but it is definitely very present in general. He has a great variety of interests, much more than myself. Also, he recently moved into a new apartment, and left it practically empty for 2 months because he was immersed in ideas that he was putting to writing. He has only carefully decorated it more recently. That would never happen with an ISFP. He's a quintessential INFP, albeit one that has appreciation for some "Se" things, I guess.

Ren's Room It would actually happen to ISFPs more so than INFPs. The former tend to get obsessed with their art (art being a subjective term that they use in this case, not art in general). In order to distinguish between the IFPs it is necessary to look at wether he is affiliative or pragmatic (does he go with societal norms or does he tend to rebel?). In this video he is definitely seems like an ISFP, but it’s not enough data to make a decision about his type.

I'm eternally curious about the inner - world of Infps and Kevin expressed himself very well ! He seems like he is a well - intergrated personality - very self - aware, which IMO is a hallmark of Fi ! The users of this function, are, at all times in touch with their feelings and emotions ! And can explain them in - depth. I have noticed this skill with every Fi user that I have conversed with ! Not so with me ! I either have to express myself either through the medium of wrting , or discussing my feelings with a trusted person, in order to tap the feeling part of my consiousness....

The extravert's General is the one outside the tent controlling everything, while his Aides stand guard. The Introvert's General stays inside the tent attending to the important matters, while his Aides are the first person you meet as they defend off interruptions and distract people. They only let those who are important to us in the tent❤️

Dianna Rowlands I feel like infj facial expressions can be very intense, very extroverted ... it’s because it’s like battling a beast to get everything out properly in human words haha, it’s also because we are constantly picking up on the nuances of people and surrounding though Ni and Se and then trying to adapt our body language through our desire of interpersonal harmony (Fe) some people say infj are stoic but that is only when we are alone and thinking in my opinion, our hands and face really become active when engaged in conversation, why many think Infj are extroverts.

I agree with you, and I don't think it's all about looking at the camera (although that was true). It's like without words, the brother expressed his emotions via facial expressions. Maybe because of Fi? Fe tries to understand and verbalize his emotions, and looks into the reaction of the other people, trying to connect and understand their emotions in return. Therefore the focus in not inwards (own emotions) (Fi) but outwards (Fe), and a bit of the own emotions might be lost or blends in with the surrounding emotions and feelings of others. Maybe 😅

The difficult part to distinguish is both INFP and INFJ want to accommodate and adjust to other personality, sometimes to the point where they lose the sense of identity. the difference is as an INFP when I prioritize their feeling over mine, it is more reason based. I want harmony and it is because I am too sensitive I am afraid that others might attack me if I don't handle them carefully. also I notice, it should always align with how much respect I have for that person, more one on one, and depends if they deserve it or not. I am very self sacrificial to the person whom I think is not a threat to me. for INFJ I notice they are more general to everyone they meet, even the person they don't like they still adjust themselves (unless violated maybe they doorslam you) and it's very carefully act out (a bit inauthentic but naturally make people comfortable, INFP is not natural doing this because they care so much about authenticity). INFJs prioritize other because they want harmony (same) but the intention is direct not in subjective manners, it's on the objective manners, (how is actually they feel, what their need, do I hurt their feeling, it's someone else feeling oriented), what others feel is what INFJs feel. if they sense someone's feeling need the certain type of act, INFJ unconsciously act adjusting to their need. let's combine with the pairing functions as for INFP an Fi users you have Te, Te cares what others THINK about themselves, so they are more on what OTHERS VIEW of them not what OTHERS FEEL of them "competency seeking type of people" (let's be honest). they can be excellent at that if they want it though. as for INFJ, Fe users have Ti, they don't care what others THINK about themselves as long as they can meet others feeling need, they're more how OTHERS FEEL because of them not what OTHERS THINK VIEW of them (Value seeking type of people). and INFJ too can borrow other's value to be their value and adopt it as theirs. another point is INFJ and INFP both love analyzing, this is the misconception why I was mistyped as INFJ all the time, because I do too, love psychology, I too dig deep philosophy and theology, but guess what, it always and will always touch my value or sense of me, I learn psychology because I am interested what my type is, my close friends and my love ones, INFJ on the other hand interested psychology for human in General not personal, I do dig down abou theology because I want to compare whether my religion, my belief is really truth, not in general and unattached like INFJ, I JUST REALIZED everything I do have sense of me. while INFJ has a lot more on their inner ideas, to understand more about this, I found Fi and NI can be misleading in some way, INFP Fi love to process information deeply, appear to be like INFJ who loves delves into complicated idea deeply Ni, but the root is different, INFJ can advance single information they get by adding nuance, details, mysteriously completing imagination about that information (provision to future even it's not happening yet) BUT THEY STILL NOT MAKING ASSESMENT or PROCESSING that information. they just obtaining that information intensely. while INFP, when they get information, it is the same way like INFJ which is in the form of Nuance along with motives and hidden pattern, but it is short and not provision to future, we're short at obtaining information, BUT we directly process it with our complex dense and intense value processing system which is called feeling, is it align with the value based judgement of previous pattern, we feel it, if it's right or wrong, based on how we imagine ourself in that situation. so for us INFP it's gonna be a lot easier to explain to someone about our conclusion because we know how to get it. while INFJ it's difficult for them to explain to someone since the idea itself is too complicated and intense to be put into words.

Hello! Glad to see INTerest in MBTI theory. It's been a long road for me. I'm INTJ btw. Nice to meet your brother. I'm not sure if either of you are typed correctly! Your brother has a very dreamy look to his eyes and a thoughtful way of expressing himself. Did you know he actually looks more like an INFJ because they have huge eyes?? Now, onto you whom thinks he's an INFJ..I think it's possible you are an INTJ. YOU describe Ni correctly but I haven't delved into your videos to see which fx you have studied yet. I think you should read up on all the fxs. Choose only 4, the ones that are most similar to you. That's a great start into accurately identifying yourself. When I got here around 2010, there was nothing anywhere. Things are better now. I'm telling you when you are studying the fxs according to Jung and Freud ( Freud is incomplete, I find), you will which fxs you use, and which you do not! The way your brother describes you is like myself, hyperfocused on something I'm interested in, the world falls behind. I could care less about the mess around me. Laughingly, the thing that sticks out the most about you is your easy ability to speak!! That's The!! Guess what?? INFJ has no TE! Now, what do you say?

With INFJ it's always a case that if we are using too much of our introverted thinking we tend to forget our surroundings including people. I'm fascinated to know that another INFJ has the same experience.

I can relate to your brother but not to every degree tho I am an INFP myself. Maybe there's difference for each of us despite being similar :) About sharing though, I am one of the chatty INFPs that others even mistook me for being an extrovert. But now that I think of it, I only share a certain part of myself to them, each depending to the level of trust we share and the common grounds we have. I give the impression I'm opening myself up but that's like the tip of the iceberg. I keep journals, too, as I like to record what I learned and realized today more than what truly happened. Not so heavy in magnifying my feelings to the point of writing it down cause I understand what I feel on the get go and could even explain why I feel it unless it gets TOO MUCH - too painful, too exhilarated, too anxious, etc. Cause then the feeling would be too much for me to keep I could at least share it in words (thru pen and paper of course) so I don't get too overwhelmed. A feeling too great is part of my highlight reel, whether it be a good one or bad lol but yea, I keep a philosophical journal too for my internal musings and for when spontaneity kicks in. I guess one thing INFJs and INFPs will always have in common is the desire to grow/improve as a person 😊

This was a very interesting topic; I enjoyed the video and look forward to your brother joining you again. I’m an INFJ and I don’t keep a journal or diary, but I have been trying to write down daily thoughts and ideas in order to work on my neglected creative writing interest. I’m also very quick to express emotion. One way I seem to relate to your brother more than to you is in the subject of beauty. This is extremely important to me to put it very mildly. I wonder if it’s only beauty in your surroundings that you are less interested in than your brother, or is it all forms of beauty that he values more highly than you?

Chasing theUnknown I completely relate to your comment. I am especially moved by beauty in literature, music, science and nature. I’m not good at noticing my surroundings in a practical way or being observant of what’s happening around me, yet if I’m not completely in my mind, I’ll be the one staring at the clouds or examining the flowers. :)

I've definitely read in one book(god knows which one) about how infjs combination of Ni and Se gives them a knack for spotting(and appreciating) high quality items and it actually described how the infj would put a great amount of effort into say decorating their house to be it's most beautiful. So not sure how that would all play in here, I find mbti theory contradicts itself all the time.(depending on which individual is presenting it)

I've never heard someone else articulate the idea of feelings losing intensity by putting them into words. After my Mom passed away I would at times refrain from communicating what I was feeling because it felt like the emotion would be diminished by condensing it into words.

I wouldn’t be so quick to type his brother as an Se user just because of his attention to aesthetics. It can easily be a result of him being an Enneagram 4 which is all about being sensitive to the beauty and aesthetics of everything.

I don't know if this is an infp thing but I have a diary too otherwise I have the feeling as if my head explodes by all thoughts and things because sometimes it's so much in my head I am not able to share or just to process through. Too much ways my mind walks at once. It's a lot, I feel old 🤣 Ooooh I feel sometimes autistic too. Focusing is hard but when I do I don't even realize people talk to me. But I get distracted easily for example people talk next to me. I only can agree on everything ur brother said. As far as cognitive functions go and processing and seeing the world I only can say, yes that's exactly how I act and feel. He explained it very well. It's so nice realizing that I am a normal breathing individual and that is completely fine to be as I am. My partner is infj so I learned a lot about infj behavior and cognitive function too in order to make sure to meet the right way of communication with him. It's very important to me that we both feel understood and cherished. It's not like we have a difficult relationship but I think it's never wrong trying to see the world through someone elses eyes to support them and be a help in their daily struggles.
