My wife died right in my arms from breast cancer last October which still haunts me today. In Memory of Stella 1988-2021 it really gets to me being here without her I always wake up wishing she was here but lord knows she'll be waiting for me at the pearly gates in the bright blue sky!

When my dad passed in 2005 I would get in my car at night and get on the interstate and drive while playing this song on repeat, trying to holding back tears that blinded my vision at times. I can't explain the feeling but this song and the starry night made me feel in a way calm at peace and okay at such a hard time in my life.

This is the addictive drug singing to the addict. "Like a ghost don't need a key" "Your best friend I've come to be". I am a retired cop and saw many a person suffer and some die from overdoses, wrecked families trying to save an addicted family member. It visited my home and took my 22 yr old stepson in 1999 after an eight year war. He is better off dead than imprisoned or addicted. His sister is now 47 and a long time addict and will eventually die from "it".My wife and I took her 4 yr old son away from her and have custody and him at age 17 now. If anyone ever tries to start him on drugs they will suddenly disappear. Thanks for the beautiful song Dido. It has meaning to me.

Don't Leave Home always reminds me of a very toxic relationship I had. This friend had a severe drug problem (in addition to other mental problems) and I thought of myself as his savior and that I'd be the the one to make it all better for him. Silly me. I had just bought Life For Rent and one night I was in bed listening to it. This song was playing when the phone rang and it was him, crying and having a major meltdown, caused by drug abuse and his own paranoia. I got out of bed and took a cab in the middle of the night, traveled across the city I lived in, just to be there for him and the whole time this song played in my head. I stayed by his side for many days and nights, putting my own life and needs on hold just to support him and help him recover. There I was, losing myself because I thought I'd be his "safety". Eventually it all fell apart, I wised up to his manipulations, and I could not listen to this song for years. I was a lot older, wiser and more jaded when I listened to this song again and discovered what Dido really meant to say. I was shocked, but at the same time made perfect sense. So this song was closure to me in many ways, and the coincidence between my situation and the song was part of a bigger lesson that I needed to go through... and for that I'll always thank Dido.

This is one of my favorite Dido songs, although it's a sad song and sort of depressive, it's beautiful, I found out that Dido lost her Dad when she was very young, I assume that's why most of her songs are sorta melancholic and sad, but I like her!!!

I've heard this song many times in passing over the years, but this is the first time I've really stopped to listen to the lyrics. The only thing that stood out to me before was the line "I'll be your safety", so I assumed it was a cutesy love song. But now I realize how dark it really is. Shows Rollo and Dido's talent here. The most beautiful song and vocals masking the real dark message of drug addiction and loneliness. Like a lot of people I assume this was a cute love song but once you actually know what it's about it becomes a solid gold masterpiece.

yeah,i used to love this when it came out,i was like 8,i bought the life for rent record because i was obsessed with the dido songs i watched on the music channels,it was my first record,i played it over and over,know every damn lyric since i was 8 and never got tired of it, and i guess i thought this one was about love or a friendship (i'm not even from a country that speaks english so i didn't give much thought to it), and now that i'm older is weird to see the dark meaning behind it,but i think i can relate to it even more,it can be about many kinds of addictive things,i never had any addiction to substances or illegal stuff or anything like that but i had it rough in other things and emotional stuff and i can feel the lyrics more than i did 13 years ago. this woman is amazing,proud of the little me and the great taste i had in music,lol. PS: oh god,i wrote so much,sorry for the speech xD

she is a female version of Rob Thomas.. Dido is always phenomenal... standing in the queue of the greatest female voices that have surfaced out in the musical arena.

Such a classic masterpiece from this class of a lady..Almost all of her songs are just life changing....

I read this was about her friend's addiction. And that is how I interpret it as an addict clean for 18 years. Dido truly got me wholly through it when I was completely alone at the moment. ❤ changed my life.

This song from Dido seems to convince depressed people not to runaway from home. It's hard to survive life on the streets when you're in their shoes, because a lot of dangerous things happen when it comes to leaving home. 👍🏻 if you seriously agree.
