Back in the day this was the first cassette tape that I bought, I was 16, semi depressed and still trying to figure things out, this got me through some difficult times and gave me hope. I am 37 now, have a family two wonderful kids and a wife but this still takes me back to my boyhood room, that table and chair set by the window and for a moment I can feel the breeze in my hair again. You eventually get through it, the seemingly unbearable pain the feeling of despair, nothing lasts for ever.

True story: This song changed my life. Spent my entire adult life working around the world. In 2004 I'd already spent 3 months in Indonesia, headed for home via Australia and had to stay there for a month and then had to go to Malaysia. Was at a record shop and picked up Dido's new (at that time) album. Listened to this track on my laptop in my hotel room and I realised that I WAS allowing my life to be for rent. We (mostly) all need a job but I realised that I'd reached a point where my life was something that was happening on the other side of the world while I was away earning money. I enjoyed my old life, and cherish the friends I made, but my LIFE was at home with my family and I was renting out my life instead of living it. Took a couple more years but I found myself a normal job and settled into a happy family life.

Great to hear these stories :) Dido was our project at SonyBMG, and she was one of our favourite artists to hang with. Just a shy local girl in London who we had to make into a superstar (she is a super sweet lady). We got Eminem on board to help out at the start...and the rest is history.

Wow. This song came right back into my life at the exact time I needed it to. This song is about not being able to commit to someone or love itself. Always thinking “is there more? Can I do better?” Not being able to commit to a person and settle down and find peace, happiness and be content with the blessings you have. Shielding your heart. Letting people rent out your heart and letting them just come, use you and leave because you can’t commit to the relationship.

It is speaking about how important commitment is in relationships. This could never come out today. This is SO GOOD.

Hey Dido. Gotta thank you for being a part of my recovery from bowel cancer. Every morning when I had radiation therapy, I listened to your song "Stoned" Absolutely brilliant because it had a long intro, and while the drum beat was going on to start with it, obviously no words, so I created my own....."The cancer in my body's disappearing disappearing. And it did ! Had chemo as well and my favourite other song of yours was about someone in India now, how sad I am that I can't name your song that is my second favourite of all time ! This song got me through the time when I had kind of a crush on my professor. Not really a crush but he was such a man. The way he talked or presented himself in the class was saying he IS a man. And my father left me and my mom for another life in a different country. So as a teenager I've never had this role model of a man. And my professor was the first guy I recognised as a man. He was in his early 30s I think and married. It was more of platonic love. And this song was a boomer those days. And I had a cassette with it . I remember studying to this song or just listening and thinking one day I'll meet my man I'll be happy with. The one who will be exactly like my professor with manly attitude. Still haven't met this guy. But thank you Dido for your songs. I bet you helped a lot of people to get through rough times.

growing up as an African kid I listened to dido, I played her songs on repeat all day everyday. In a world of afrobeats and afropop and reggae music this was quite odd. I didn’t care I loved dido and enya! guess what, some neighbors quietly asked me for their albums 😂 how glad I was to share with them! good music is always good.

The only reason I’d ever wanna be an artist would be to just bring back music like this. That’s it. I wouldn’t care about the fame or popularity. I mean to bring back beautiful music like this for someone who’s little to listen to and then to have them come back to it years later and smile and remember their youth. That would definitely be worth it.

My father would also play this song every morning. This song reminds me of him. He also lost his fight against cancer 4years ago. I miss him everyday.
