    Great paint job, but you really need to knock out the frost plugs and steam clean or water blast the rusty mud out of the water jackets, because looking at the crap in the sump it probably wasn't well looked after. At least replace the frost plugs because almost guaranteed they will be rusted to the point of leaking, and murphy says that will happen right after your first drive. You dont need to worry about water blasting the block , with degreaser its the best way inside and out. Dry it off with compressed air and spray it well with crc or something like that to stop it rusting. Good luck mate.

    Hi Phil, ah yeah good point with the freeze plugs, now im doing a full (ish) rebuild ill get some new ones ordered. im just trying to figure out on how i measure up the rings and bearings? only marking i have on the piston is the letter "C", the bearings have some markings too, i just want to get a standard rebuild kit for it i think? cheers buddy Logan

    Been waiting to watch this all day, most enjoyable. Good luck, and my empathy with the food poisoning. I remember my girlfriends mum had it, exclaiming, 'I thought I was going to die, then to my horror I realised I wasn't!'

    Very nice work. Should try oven cleaner on the block. Worked on my tractor.

    thanks Steve! I have heard that actually.. i forgot about it though haha, i have been wanting to try it too, might do the heads with oven cleaner and see how it goes?

    next time, just use degreaser on engines and a dishes wash brush to loosen all the dirt off the steel where you want to paint it. then use the hottest water you can get flowing through a hose, best if you get some low pressure going on it or good pressure is fine.. The laundry hot tap with a garden hose out through the window is handy for the job. THAT dilutes all the chemicals heats the engine block so it dries properly also if there is stubborn soiling on the engine get the wire brush out with degreaser. Personally I'll never put paint stripper on a cast block and not dilute the acids ever again. I have had blocks where it was decided to use oven cleaner to get the sludge deposit off . Total experiment. Anyway with the oil and grease off the motor I mask up the job and get good etch primer on to the engine. Then an undercoat in white or grey. Followed by a few coats of colour.. All in engine enamels or VHT. Stripping the paint off is pointless,any paint still there after its pulled from a car is good enough to stay on and that you can take to the bank. Glorious engine Mr. ! Hope you get your 350 horses.

    Well done mate for giving it a go, you’ll soon realise that rebuilding an engine isn’t that hard. Like one of the previous comments said, definitely replace those welsh plugs and while they’re out you’ll be able to clean out those water jackets. If there’s no markings on the piston such as 0.30, I’d say they’re standard bore pistons. With the mains I’d measure those with a verniers, you’ll probably have to go the next size in the bearing caps, due to age and wear. Now you are stuffed for life , because after you feel the torque of a big block, you’ll never go back to a small block haha!! Catch you later mouse

    By all appearances those pistons dont meet deck height. which translates to a lower compression smog motor. The 350HP workhorse along with the 375-390 HP magnum- six pack all had 10.5 comp. ratio with zero deck height. What you have there is likely a 9.5 smog motor. I believe they went down to 8.5 in the later years with insanely low HP, But still a ton of torque for the motorhomes Etc. But for performance the low HP is not worth the bad MPG.

    Darn haha, maybe 250hp then haha 😄, maybe if I get the block/heads machined to give it lower compression? The pistons do look very low in the bores

    Well done, how are the top of cylinder bores like for lipping are you going to hone the bores yourself

  • @TwistedMetalCustoms

    @TwistedMetalCustoms

    Жыл бұрын

    Yeah I have honed them now, there was barely a lip at the top, my fingernail wouldn't catch.. not too sure If I have to get them bored out or not now for new piston rings ?

  • @BCBtrucks64
    @BCBtrucks64 Жыл бұрын

    nope you need a total strip down send the block off to be chemo cleaned , zero decked , honed or bored , crank linished or ground and rods closed and resized with preferably new pistons
