Check out the videos on a gene winfield pipe anvil. That would have probably helped for this job

Great video mate, a lot of car mods, especially on a budget, I find that you have to have options. I can tell with your skills that you could easily make your own sills. But sometimes being ‘time poor’ makes certain options a lot more viable. Haha!! Mouse

Hey Mouse, thanks buddy! I could make the sills, but the bigger the panel the more chance for differences I reckon, especially when I found out it was only 130 bucks haha 😄, yeah being time poor is definitely my biggest challenge, cheers 🍻

I've just finished doing 2 inner & outer sills on my xy big job inner $150 each outer $420 each retail. you can get from rare spares a full length of the piece you just made but no ends on it pretty cheap.

I was thinking at the beginning that it would be easier and neater to jut cut off the dented piece and replace it

  • @TwistedMetalCustoms

😄 yeah exactly, yes it would. In short I wanted to try and make a replacement piece, once I seen how long it took, also how cheap it was to buy.. then yes 100% yeah definitely going to replace with a new piece 😄 🍻

Sill patches can be really simple , provided you dont overthink it. I have made a short video specifically for you, please watch to the end. What I forgot to mention is , before making a bender I used to clamp the tin between two pieces of timber / metal and hammer form the bend. kzread.info/dash/bejne/anqXw8eFlsquldo.htmlsi=pAuCq9BL12q_UzqL. It would still be easier and cheaper to make a panel to replace the whole damaged area, in one piece, than to replace the whole sill.

Thanks Bruce, I had a watch, I know what you mean. Believe it or not, I actually didn't have any round scrap pipe, except that small peice I used, 130 dollars for a full outer sill is pretty cheap, for me to make a roller bender even out of scrap is still not viable as yet, definitely something I want to make so very helpful having this info mate so that's great!! Another reason is I also want to make parts with as little as possible for other folks that may not have all the home made gear too. But exactly like you said, even timber and some clamps will work, all good information matey! Good on ya for making a video! That beetle looks pretty cool, is it one of your past restorations?
