Just so you guys know, this referee is known in Brazil as one of the worst. Brazilian referees are an utter joke as a whole, but he's even above that. He's always screwing up teams and manipulating title matches with his terrible and nonsensical decisions. What you saw against France is nothing compared to what he does here. I've no idea how he ended up at the World Cup, especially in the Quarter-finals (though nothing FIFA does surprises me).

@@yfrost4529 They didn't play bad but they were unsporting. Its like if we were playing chess and I whistle while you are trying to think of your next move. The thing is, that kind of behaviour could have cost them the game, if Kane hadn't missed his penalty it could have backfired on them. It can tarnish both victories - it tarnishes the French victory because it feels like they played dirty, and if England had won it would have tarnished the English victory because it would have seemed like they only scored because the French were fouling and giving them penalties. In the end its not about hating anyone, its about wanting a good game where the best side wins because they played the better game. When one of the teams starts playing dirty, it makes everything more confused and less enjoyable.

Mbappe and Giroud were fouled time and time again!! Decision never given!!
It should be added, that it took VAR to tell the referee to take a look at Englands 2nd pen......When EVERYONE around the world could see it was 100% penalty instantly. It wasn't even debatable, and he was only 10 yards away! Plus if he's giving a card for the foul......then it HAS to be red! As soon as the Kane penalty decision was not given, after VAR had looked at it, I said we were being stitched up. If it's all on the ref, and it's just down to his decision there and then, like it used to be, then fair enough he got it wrong. But now they have computer technology to re-run and scrutinise to the minutest detail.......which they have done in the past for some ridiculous offside decisions.........and they still say no fouls, then something is clearly not right.

@@jazzymars30 My comment never mentioned anything about ‘bad’ decisions.
Didier Deschamps has made the difference by having Rabiot and Tchouameni pressing on Henderson and Bellingham. He could have gone for a defensive option but he didn't. Why? Because M'Bappé attracks three defenders. Defending on M'Bappé brings free space for the Number 10, Antoine Griezmann. He then has 2 options, either Giroud or Dembélé. It is a tradition in French Football to rely on an intelligent number 10. Platini, Zidane, now Griezmann. Who is England's number 10? Didier Deschamps has one of the greatest palmares in history, both as a player and a coach. England has a golden generation... and Gareth Southgate. Also, Didier Deschamps is an emotional coach who loves his player. He builds a bond within his team, something he learned from Aimé Jacquet and Carlo Ancelotti. This is all completely true, although the England players have all said that they love playing for Southgate. Spot on. Weird that given all the cameras from the side there isn’t a camera along the line of the penalty area. Logic tells you if his foot is just outside and he is leaning forward, dare I say falling forwards, contact would have been on the line but too close to reverse. However he can’t get the ball from Saka without fouling him and it turned an attack into a break from which they scored with Saka taken out of the game. It is inexplicable given in the PL or Champions League it would have been ruled out. There were other fouls on Saka too which defied logic

As French, I totally agree there have been some referee mistakes. Concerning the fault on Kane, the referee did not whistle probably due to the fact he was sure if there was penalty or not. It’s something that happens more and more with the VAR, much less penalties are whistled because the referee knows that if there is penalty, we will call him to watch the VAR and then take the decision (it’s what happened on the second penalty for England). I don’t want to justify his but it’s something we see more and more nowadays. I don’t think he was corrupted, just he is a bad referee, at least on this game. It was 2 frivoulous tackles from the same stupid defender that made England lose. A baby can see that their both fouls, yet this joke of a referee couldn't. I'm not even mad because there was possibility of scoring from these fouls, but I'm mad because Upamecano should've been sent off after the egregious Kane tackle. I agree with something Gary Neville said about it, it's the fact he tries to win tackles you physically can't. It's amazing that they thought to have goal line cameras to ensure the ball crosses the goal line...but they didn't think about having cameras situated in line with all 3 of the lines that make up the keepers box? First off, let me just say that VAR is nonsense. I hate VAR. However, concerning the Japan goal that ended up sending Germany home, they took forever, looked at countless angles and even though we could definitely see green the ball was still called in because from whatever angle they were looking at (assuming above) the entire ball hadn't completely went into touch. Used to be if you could see green, the ball was out. What happened? Why didn't they use the same interpretation with Kane? Even though his feet hadn't gone inside the box, his knees and parts of his body were definitely over the line and inside the box. How many free kicks do they want? Compare this to the 80's game
@PaulSpacey
Жыл бұрын
Agreed; the game is softer now. But everyone plays by the same rules; if it’s a foul, it’s a foul. We don’t judge fouls now by 80s standards 👀
Every defeat is based on what ifs. If Kane had scored the second penalty nobody barring an anal bunch of nitpickers would have analysed these what if moments. As ever defeat shifts the blame from players making the wrong decisions and not taking their chances to the ‘evil’ officiating. Even if the referees were infallible robots who interpreted every breach of the rules consistently, some would still be screaming about bias, bad refereeing, and corruption that will inevitably continue weeks after a game is over. Sometimes decades.
@PaulSpacey

Of course there are always things to complain about. Ultimately you have to win the game but the match officials got some big decisions wrong. There is a subjective inherent bias within humans and when calls are close, that can show itself. England and rightly disliked on the world stage (because of media, fans etc) and so as a nation we rarely get the ‘big’ decisions go in our favor. That’s the game.
@jackadam5665

But if the what ifs are based on fixing bias we would understand that we lost fairly but we didn’t and the ref var and just overall bias was insane watching replays of normal tackles with clear intent of getting the ball being given out like food testers to France whilst we had to butter up the ref to get anything looked at

This sounds kind of nice Ross, but I don't your the point is particularly relevant to this example. There is no denying the simple fact that the referee today was exceptionally poor, and England had, at the very least, a couple of free kicks right on the edge of the box that were fairly obvious, and one of them that would have cancelled out a French goal if it was given. Of course the players needed to do better, and they should have considering France were vulnerable, but when a referees performance is quite this bad it deserves to be noticed. With matches like this, it is clear we are a long way from infallible robots, and I think most football fans should expect much better from the average fallible referee and his assistants. I can absolutely guarantee that even had England won there would have been discussion about how many obviously bad decisions the referee made in crucial moments and dangerous areas of the pitch.

I saw France win the World Cup in 1998 (even if very young), miss it in 2006 (penalties), win it again in 2018. I can say that practically all my life I have seen France at the highest level, except once in 2010 (a catastrophic World Cup for us), because after the defeat in the 2006 final, we all complained about the refereeing . After that the players became arrogant, they did not question themselves. Their game was mediocre, although on paper we had one of the best teams. France played a dirty game and the shit ref just played into their hands. You can't have seriously watched that game and thought the better team won?
From a French guy perspective, very bad ref for sure, not only against England. You are focusing on missed decisions in favour of England when most of the freekicks awarded to England in the first half were bullshit. All the player were falling from nothing when they all play in PL. The referee was fouled by English players in the first half. In the same time, don't remember if it was on the 2nd pen or on the last free kick but the action began on a foul by England to get the ball back which was not given to France.

You have no ball knowledge. Yes the ref was bad but pls tell me if one of his decisions prevented you from scoring or helped to concede. You played very dirty throughout the match because of us being the better team on the day. The fouls, even if they weren’t, did not make a big difference to Frances scoreline.

These were the two biggest decisions; lots of poor decisions both ways, you are correct.

The French fouled 14 times and eventually got 3 yellow cards - they had racked up 9 or 10 fouls before half-time. Saka was hacked every time he tried to make a run towards the box. They cheated, helped by a ref that was barely competent for that level. I watched the match in French in France, and even the TF1 commentators were subdued if not speechless at the run of fouls.

@@PaulSpacey I dont contest the fact that there is maybe a fault, but we need to see the action to understand what is happening... On a picture we dont understand what comes first and what comes after (leg and fall)... That is my only point.
Just as 2018's final Croatia vs France. France only won with badass false decisions by the Argentinian Ref back than, even the stats wear clearly at Croatia's side. There are plenty of videos that analyzed the game afterwards and clearly show the robbery. Croatia totally dominated France back that and lost to France 12th player… this match today totally reminded me to it, and interestingly it’s France again.

@@olelain bullshit, 3 of 4 French goals after wrong decisions (1st dive by Griezmann), 2nd goal of France wrong penalty, no contact (VAR did not even check it lmao) and on the other side Croatia got stolen of 2 penalties. Should’ve been 2-1 or even 3-1 croatia with fair referee decisions or correct VAR usage. But everyone knows that Croatia was the better team, and they won the hearts of the world, nobody cares about a trophy that is won by rugged referees and lower performance, Croatia dominated France totally back than.

the only thing that matters is that harry kane miss the penalty haha
Possible foul in penalty area in the europa EUROPA CONFERENCE PL LA LIGA Bundesliga Seri a league One EUROS and yet the biggest stage fails 😅
From a neutral observer Saka was fouled as you could see impact from behind spin him and defender didn’t contact ball whatsoever. This non call had a big impact on the game. Slow motion highlights show kane was fouled and should have been at least given free kick. Looked like ref was just super intent on not making any call where there was even a slight chance that a player was going down easy. By doing so he missed obvious fouls on both teams but especially England. Impacted the game. Super crappy reffing. On the other hand both goals for France were quality. Giroux header a beauty. Feel bad for Kane. Pressure was immense.

Maybe the ref watched England's semi against Denmark last year and knew what to expect, or maybe it was just karma
Both wrong decisions. Foul on Saka should have been given. Its the same thing with Japan vs Spain. You have to VAR this. The foul on Kane was on the line = penalty...

It’s gone now so too late; we have to accept these decisions in football, even if they go against us 😭
Hi. My opinion : The victory is not fair. There is a foul on Saka. There is a foul on Kane ( Penalty or free kick, I don't know ) I feel sorry for you guys, really.
