The only one I know, is opening the board and setting the pieces up.

Magnus didn't miss the mate in 1. He found the mate in tens of moves. He skipped the mate in 1 in order to kramnik remove him from the list of cheaters. Truly GOAT !

Despite these guys often playing technically brilliant blitz games that rival classical games for accuracy, it's still blitz. These super GMs might have a blind spot for horrific blunders when facing other top guys. Like giving them too much respect.

They both saw it, but they were just having a good time together..

Told myself Id try to never blunder mate in 1 again, but seeing this game just made me permanently lose hope

The more time you have per turn, the easier it is to not blunder. This, of course, was a blitz game, so...

The GOAT misses the most obvious checkmate. Stunning stuff.

I think it’s a situation where he trusted Hikaru wouldn’t blunder mate so he didn’t even consider it. I’ve done it in games many times (far more obvious mistakes too)

If I was twenty years younger, I'd love to have a run on the pitch after fighting in the scrum, promptly followed by a savory pint at the local with you, but I fear at my old age, you'd leave me crying in the wee-woo wagon. Could not believe this when i saw it, was at work and logged on to titled tuesday just in time to see the mate in one and then he missed it. the blunders afterwards were more understandable, due to time pressure. But that was crazy. thanks James.

Magnus and Hikaru both bet the spread and needed a win in over 26 moves .. that's why Magnus didn't take the mate in 1, he'd lose his $$$

This was a horribly played game.

Incredible the blunder by Magnus but that endgame by Hikaru missing several chances to draw the game was atrocious easier said than done in a rapid Blitz or Bullet game but those moves are right there in front of you Hikaru trade the Rook grab Magnus pawn than proceed to draw the game how he did not go that route was awful Thanks for the Game James

No chess is the best when the best moves are played which takes time decisions made in matter of mere seconds are not the best moves which is why a Blitz or Bullet will never reach Immortal level like Classical
