    I had a rook and king endgame awhile back it took me forever to finally checkmate my opponent I also played one where my opponent couldn’t find the checkmate against me with just Rook and King he settled for the draw it came up again yesterday the key was a swhichenzug move made the checkmate happen a lot quicker

    @@johnh5259Well Magnus did have a video about the pawn square or the king-pawn square or whatever it’s called, and in the video he spends a few minutes just telling the viewer that he doesn’t know the concept, so anything is possible.

    "Le GOAT", sounds so classy. This game has all the Magnus effects: an opening trash that would make a teacher quit, a material deficiency, an early endgame, a material comeback, a switch into having the upper hand, an endgame grind, immediately see the opponent's blunder and taking advantage from it, and a win.

    At my level, whether it be at chess or at go, I used to play on too, even when I was losing. And I lost my fair share of games all right, but sometimes my opponent blundered as well, handing me an undeserved win, or so people told me: what was the fun winning that way, it was just not gentleman-like. I always answered that it really doesn’t matter whether you make a bad move at the beginning, the middle or the end of the game, you just have to pay attention or you lose. Or, rubbing it in, I said that a game was never won by resigning.

    Why did he resign? There's a chance that Magnus' internet connection goes down or something serious happens irl and he will lose. If he put up a struggle, on average, his ratting should be higher a few more points after thousands of games.

  • @donrane

    @donrane

    That is a fallacy. By resigning a 100% lost position, barring divine intervention, he will have more time to study,grind or even just going for a walk to reset his zen. That should have a positive ELO outcome unlike finishing this game against Magnus. Remember that in most scenarios there will be variables you haven´t adjusted for.

    As an exclusive grob player I can say this was great to see, specially without the typical bishop out on move two, and knight g5 at 1:55 sent it down an unfamiliar path to me. You are often at risk of losing the rook with the pawn complications and equalizing in such a simple way into an endgame is not so easy.

  • @michaelmassaro4375

    Losing the rook to the discovered check from the Bishop was a big blunder should’ve saw that coming I saw it automatically

  • @trentostgaard

    @trentostgaard

    2 ай бұрын

    @@michaelmassaro4375 typically it would be a blunder, but you prepare for it by bringing the bishop out to defend, instead of taking the D pawn with the bishop early as is normal. The problem comes when the queen gets out and gives your massively exposed king trouble, which is why the forced queen trade is brilliant.
