    The interviews have me skeptical, but they haven't made me give up hope. At the very least it looks better than the movie (the characters seem to be pronouncing their names right), but that is a pretty low bar. I HOPE it does the original spirit of the show justice. I see a lot of people saying "If you want to see them remake the original just rewatch the original," but to me that's a stupid approach to this. When you look at anime franchises that did updated versions, like DBZ making DBKai, or Full Metal Alchemist doing FMA Brotherhood, you don't expect everything to be 1-for-1 identical, but you'd probably be pretty upset to find out that the Kai version of Vegeta was Mr Niceguy from his first appearance onward, or that the Brotherhood version of Alphonse Elric was just a kid in a suit of iron and not a disembodied soul. When it comes to the live action Avatar, we're expecting changes out of necessity like dropping some of the scenes that would be harder on the budget, or scenes that just don't work as well in live action as they do in a cartoon, but when you start talking about changing characters' personalities or removing arcs that developed those characters, that's when people start getting nervous, and when someone says that they're trying to capture an audience from a show that had no similarities to the cartoon you're remaking (the only similarity I know of between AtlA and Game of Thrones is the vague "high fantasy" genre), that's when people get nervous. Again, I'm willing to give it an honest chance, all of my apprehension is based on the words of people behind the scenes and words can be hollow or misinterpreted, a little change in ways that make sense is fine and welcome, but too much change will ruin it for me.

  • @Film_Quest

    @Film_Quest

    I completely agree! This is spot on to how I feel as well. If there are too many changes it's going to ruin the immersion. It would make it harder to believe that the people I'm seeing on screen are Katara, Sokka, Aang, etc. Sure, we don't expect a perfect 1:1 adaptation, but calling it a "remix" and not a "cover" kinda worries me.

Nothing they’ve said is necessarily bad. I can dig it. There’s some changes I don’t prefer but if it’s its own thing then it’s not bad. The MOVIE was bad. Now because we are paranoid about live action ATLA we decide to be picky about things that don’t actually make a show bad? I get that it won’t be our preference but just say that. Don’t spread this negative publicity that the show simply won’t be good. If that happens at least let it happen on its own without sabotage. Casual general audiences and newcomers will be introduced to this world and they won’t have the cartoon to compare to. So they might just love it.
