Let’s cut straight to the chase - the previous Tucson model was a car that primarily sold itself on practicality, modest pricing and family usability, while decent levels of kit went some way towards making up for its distinct lack of flair.
Hyundai’s fourth-generation mid-size SUV is a slightly different proposition, keen to establish itself as a premium offering for families that value style and refinement, as well as the more prosaic qualities of overall load space and day-to-day functionality.
Competition is fierce in this market sector and many of the Tucson’s rivals have established USPs that help them stand out from the pack. The Volkswagen Tiguan has an unmistakable air of quality and a solid reputation, while the Ford Kuga is highly rated and brings a sense of driving fun to family SUV life. The Skoda Karoq and SEAT Ateca offer different blends of the tried and trusted Volkswagen Group formula, with Peugeot’s 3008 delivering a classy cabin and typical Gallic charm.
Also worth a mention in the myriad choices are the Japanese trio of the Mazda CX-5, Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V, followed by yet further options in the form of the evergreen Nissan Qashqai, Renault Kadjar and Vauxhall Grandland. Then there's the Kia Sportage, which shares its mechanicals with the Tucson. Our Nicola Hume chose to buy a Sportage instead of the Hyundai, but did she make the right choice?

    Ive had a Tucson for two years. All the tech you need and confortable. MPG has improved greatly as it's "loosened up" but the one thing that spoils the experience is the collision avoidance tech. If I reverse off my drive into the closest lane any vehicles in the furthest lane although unnafected will cause the breaks to slam on. Also if someone stops to let me out the car will not move. The same travelling forwards if you are anywhere near a car turning left say, the alarm will sound and again the breaks will come on. Cars following you love this feature! It can be turned off if you go into three menus but then switches back on next time you start the car. It needs a button on the steering wheel to quickly cancel the system.

    Fact: I have a Sportage Gtline. My wife Tucson plug-in hybrid. I was wrong buying the Kia. Undoubtedly the Tucson is much quieter, better quality finishes inside by far, better performance in acceleration and comfort. Kia lice its interior screen well but the qualities are terrible. I'm really sorry I decided on the Sportage 😔 BIG MISTAKE

    I agree 100%! Test drove a sportage and was very underwhelmed, I wanted to like it, but it just didn’t do it for me. Went to look at a Tucson the next day, and was blown away by how much better the build quality was. Needless to say, I bought their demo on the spot!😊

    I've driven the Sportage GT-Line and the normal version of Tucson in the same day, can be quite tricky to compare those models straight away but I felt that Kia got the edge. Everything in the interior seemed superior in comparison to the Hyundai and one thing that held me back was that apparently the Tucson doesn't have a petrol&battery version (?), only with diesel. What would you say that are the biggest pros on the Tucson?

  • @yopyop1949

    @@diogonogueira7825To make a real comparison you should try the gasoline version of the Tucson PHEV Style. The finishes and soundproofing are superior without a doubt. Kia in my opinion only surpassed Tucson in those versions because of its screens and connectivity. The truth is that it is certain that you can enjoy either of these two models. I have been driving my Tucson for a year and I can only tell you that I always look forward to using the car at any time. Greetings.

    @4:33, What are the silver "levers" forward of the steering wheel (left and right) for? They look like some kind of driver control not mentioned. I was told the Hyundai and Kyi are both the same Chassis, much like "letter" frames of the GM lines.

    Nice review Nicola Happy Bum. I had considered the Tucson because it had the right drivetrain for my needs, I love the front grill set up, too. But I hated the interior so I went looking at the Ford Kuga and other cars. Lucky for me I never took it any further because Kia brought out this Sportage - oh by the way, the previous shape Sportage was also on my radar. Needless to say I have ordered a new Kia Sportage with HEV in GT line S trim in Luna Silver without the black roof - my wife’s preference. I can’t wait to get it in my hands. Greetings from Cumbria in the U.K. Stay safe and well.

    What a great presenter, so refreshing to have someone communicate with such a relaxed everyday type of narrative. I've gone for the Tucson 2WD Elite (NZ Model) Hybrid, because in white with a blackout kit and 20" rims and a 245/45/20 tyre it rides better. But white with blackout looks so much more agressive in the Tucson.

    Personally, I prefer the Tucson styling. I shortlisted this, the Skoda Kodiaq and Peugeot 5008. After lots of reading and watching reviews, I went for the 5008 GT Preium and it is the most comfortable car I have ever driven. The heated and massage seats are perfect for my dodgy back and there is really good leg room for the rear passengers.

    I have the Tucson PHEV with the tech pack for the overhead parking view and blind spot cameras on indicators. I found that I rarely need the blind spot cameras. The lane keep assist is annoying and I turn it off a lot of the time (it defaults to on with each journey). The self-steer ability is only good on motorways, called HDA (Highway Drive Assist). That combined with traffic aware cruise is great. Town driving with traffic aware cruise is good but the final brake to a stop is less smooth than it could be, it's like a novice driver not lifting brake pressure. The only source of cabin heat is the engine so on cooler days the engine comes on despite a journey that could within the 30+ miles range. You have to turn the heating system off to force it to use the battery! Overall though, it is a great car, just like the Sportage is I'm sure.

    Nicola is a fab reporter. Nice to hear things from the POV of a normal day to day motorist and not have to be a motoring expert to understand what's being said. Thank you! 😀😀 I'm looking at a Tuscon as a company car. I really love the Sportage - especially the interior but the reason i'm getting a Tuscon?...? Availability! Kia's order book is full and waiting times currently 12 - 18 months. Have they made a car that is so good they've outdone themselves and can't match demand? There are other global influences on this too at the moment I suppose. I think there is going to be a glut of cheap outstanding new cars in 18 months time as company's cancel their orders. Especially on PHEVs.

    You failed to mention that you have to switch between hvac and radio dials on the sportage, there's only 1 set of dials for both functions. Frankly I'll take the touch pad on the Tucson over having to switch every time I want to change the radio or turn up the heat

  • @Somethingaboutthat

    @Somethingaboutthat

    7 ай бұрын

    Actually you don't have to use that if you don't want to, thankfully. The Kia steering wheel has the buttons for the radio. I just leave mine set to the HVAC and use the steering wheel for the radio. You can map a few of the steering wheel buttons as well. The Mode button I use to switch between SAT Radio, Iphone audio or Radio. It took a few days to get use to but now it's simple.

  • @ffotograffydd

    Except you can adjust the radio settings via the steering wheel in the Sportage, so you can leave the heating controls on permanently on the touch screen. Both are then on physical buttons you can adjust without looking, unlike with the Tucson.

  • @pmac233
    @pmac233 Жыл бұрын

    Question for you, how was the adjustment in the sportage for having to toggle between the heat and air conditioning and the radio controls? I have been looking at both vehicles, but I really do not think I would like that in the sportage. You are correct about the shiny black plastic in the Tucson.

  • @ffotograffydd

    The good thing about the Sportage is that you can leave it set to heating and change radio (etc) settings via the steering wheel. With the Tucson everything is touch sensitive. Personally that rules it out for me. The Sportage is still on my list despite the slightly irritating heating/entertainment settings, simply because of the steering wheel controls. However, if I can get one in a reasonable amount of time I’m opting for the RAV4 because I prefer manual buttons and dials. Plus the ten year warranty!

    For me the perfect car would be one with the exterior of the Tucson and the interior of the Sportage. I had tests drive on both cars and decided to choose Sportage. No regrets at all so far. Just the opposite: after almost 3500km driving my Sportage I simply love it. Amazing driving, super confortable, lots of space, awesome dashboard and all the interior and a daring exterior. It makes a difference among the other cars. I'm just super happy with it, but this is only my opinion 😊 (And I forget to say that I was super fan of the Tucson for months, cause it's a fantastic car too)

  • @ffotograffydd

    I was considering this car until you said “touch sensitive”… now I’m not. Apart from the irritation factor, having to look down to adjust heating, etc, is dangerous! I really don’t understand why they keep doing it! Give us dials and buttons! I’m still considering the Sportage, because I can keep it set to the heating controls and change the volume on the steering wheel. But unless it’s going to be a very long wait the Rav4 is likely to be what I go for! Proper dials and switches!

    I bought the new hybrid tucson with the 1.6 petrol engine, the 230 unltimate. . After 9 months i traded it back in. I was getting no where near the mileage advertised, or even not advertised, as in real world. I travelled places most weekends when off work, and found i had to fill up every time i got home. I averaged 180-220 miles on the weekend, AND for a hybrid, that sort of mpg is terrible. My previous version of the tucson, a 2.0diesel was so much more economical (yes i know, it was a diesel)but for the weight and engine, i expected the new one to be so much more better. Looks and interior are really nice to look at until you get past the newness, and that wears off quickly, two words, finger marks. I had a couple of occasions where the car would not go into gear, and to this day could not find out why. I have to admit, i didnt pay as much as retail, £32k as i searched around, and got the same when i traded it in, so no loss. But do i miss the car...no...ive gone back to an old mk7 golf gti and love it....but whilst im here, can we get one thing straight..THE CARS DO NOT MAKE 230BHP, AS MANUFACTURS CAN NOT, I REPEAT, CAN NOT CONVERT CAR FROM THE OLD SYSTEM PETROL/DESIESL ENGINESBHP, INTO EQUAVILANT ELECTRIC BHP. They do not have a way to do it. but use it for sales ploys. So all these adverts and television programmes are falsly advertising. Its easy to find out, just ask themcan it be done, and the answer is no.

No one should be that close to the person in front of them. At the very least, if you have your indicator on, you'd also be braking, which the person behind should already be doing too if they see you braking. You can't miss those big ones. The Toyota ecvt gearbox, Atkinson cycle engine and front transaxle is a triumph, it is truly excellent to drive and we have averaged 6 litres per hundred km over 18,000km. The Toyota also, to me, looks tougher and has a steller reputation here in Australia, for reliability and is cheaper to service than the Korean twins.

    Second hand market the Tuscan is a lot cheaper to buy and to insure, also the 7 year warranty from Kia is not all it cracks up to be. Read the reviews regarding that.

    @mattmarlow4166 Hi. Thanks for your query. As regards the,Tucson it has been a very reliable and efficient way to get around. Absolutely no problems, good warranty and a trouble free experience so far. I have a 2WD Premium spec. And find it very capable with 230 bhp turbo engine it is certainly quick enough for most scenarios. Go for it and enjoy!

    Thanks for giving the thumbs up on this car manufacturers mainstream motors Kia and Hyundai don't seem to get it wrong ( have 2 Kia's and happy to purchase either ! ) As a back sufferer didn't think the Sportage seats in showroom were ' anything to write home about ' but guess that's my problem , so Hyundai s softer suspension appeals Good review of a pair of bullet proof motors - not cheap though happy beetling 🙂

    Friend and I took the same route at the same time, he averaged 13l/100km in 1.6t tucson vs my 5,5l/100km in 520d. On 140kmph difference in consumption is double

    I think the base 1.6t is notoriously thirsty. The 226hp hybrid (which I think most people will be leasing) is arguably a lot better on fuel efficiency...although it still cannot compete with a 2l turbodiesel that really should be getting 60mpg+

They always show and talk about the BOSE radio in the Top of line trims, well there is NO BOSE system in this trim level. I have to turn the BASS Level down to -9 to make it bearable.
