Bert Spencer and Herbert Wilkes robbed yewtree farm, Spencer shot Carl Bridgewater because he knew him and could recognise Him, Spencer shot Wilkes I reckon because he wanted to come clean about Carl's murder 👍

Agreed that's 100% what I've always believed as well. Wilkes conscience was bothering him and Spencer realised he'd do less time for killing an old man than a defenceless kid.

The newspaper ( think its the daily mail ) was not in carls bag , it was nit in the farm or in the bin . Chances are whoever did it stole the bloody newspaper too :/ Also worth pointing out that Robinsons car , Vince Hickeys car & to be fair berts car were all tested for shotgun residue ( albeit a flawed test as it could come up on the benzene used in playing cards !) all tested negative . Police lost carls bike , plus the prints that DID NOT match wilkes spencer the hickeys robinson or Molloy . There are 2 names that crop up locally but theres even less evidence on them so i wont muddy the waters here ....

Another tiny bit of circumstantial evidence against Spencer: As an ambulance driver, Spencer used to regularly take a good friend of my family to hospital (who lived just off Lawnswood Rd), and he knew she had an antique collection. While she was an holiday she was burgled for her antiques. Spencer would have known she was on holiday that week. We have always thought it was him who burgled her, and then went on to murder Carl while burgling Yew Tree Farm.

Carl is buried in Wordsley Church yard, I went earlier this year to pay my respects and it took me ages to find his grave, found out his father Brian had passed away and is now buried with Carl and the headstone was removed for this purpose, If you wish to visit, Carl's grave is on the very top row on the left hand side (your back to the church). I rem this murder very well as i was a paper lad also at the time. RIP Carl, you are not forgotten.... As a sub note - In the same graveyard, again on the left hand side but now at the very bottom is a line of graves known as "Millionaires Row" - Where all the wealthy millionaires of the time who were involved in the industrial revolution e.g glass making in the area are also buried, you cannot miss the impressive grave head stones - Maybe material for another video?

A lot of locals think it was Spencer. Bent incompetent police don't help matters either. When Wilkes was shot I was working nights as a porter at Prestwood Hospital. My wife was a sister and in charge of Prestwood that night. It was a stormy night and there were some odd noises on the premises which we found were quite explainable later. Whilst we were listening we heard the shot that killed Wilkes. I seem to remember it was in the early hours. A well presented and thought provoking upload with respect to Carl and his family.

Whoever murdered Carl Bridgewater was local, had a shotgun & an interest in antiques, & would’ve known the occupants of Yew Tree Farm were away that day. At Carls post-mortem it was revealed his tear-ducts hadn’t worked prior to his murder (so he hadn’t cried that afternoon) which indicates he must’ve known his killer. Also he was murdered by a dangerous psychopath, & there couldn’t have been many of them in a small area like Wordsley in 1978. All this points to one man: Bert Spencer, who no longer has an alibi for that day & who’s car was spotted near the murder scene that afternoon being driven by a guy in uniform (he was an ambulance man). Thanks for sharing this upload, hopefully justice will be done for Carl & his long suffering family.

The very sad murder of Carl Bridgewater is a very poignant reminder for me because this was the identical newspaper round that I did, although much earlier. I worked for the newsagent 'Sporty' Mathews as a young teenager from 1951 to 1954 when I left to begin my full time employment aged 16. At that time I lived in Wordsley on 'The Green', which was only about 200 yards from the newsagents shop. The round was a fairly long one which I did mostly on my cycle and was pretty daunting in the dark during the winter months. 'Yew Tree' farm was the very last drop right down alongside the busy A449 road. The murder of such a young lad was a tragedy which shocked the local community.

I know a fair bit about Carl’s murder as I was 15 at the time and had two part time jobs, one of them being a paper round in Birmingham. Over the years I have realized what could be looked upon as a tragic coincidence of events that led to Carl’s death, as on that day he had an after school dental appointment, which made him late to do his paper round. If we consider that someone (maybe Bert Spencer) had planned to do this robbery, he may well have known that the elderly occupants of Yew Tree were going to be out that afternoon and that a delivery boy (did he know it would have been Carl?) would drop off a paper at a certain time. With this in mind, this person may have timed the robbery to miss both, but on that day Carl had the dental appointment so he turned up late, therefore walking straight into the scene. Again I think it is tragic that these events all occurred on that day. On that day Carl would have cycled down from the (then) Buckpool School to his dentist (was it the one on the High St, Wordsley, opposite the Holy Trinity Church?) and on to the paper shop to do his round. No one would have thought that eight days later he would be being buried at that church. 0n the 19th of September, 1978, Carl was 13 years, 8 months and 17 days old. RIP Carl. Hopefully one day the person who did this to you will face justice.

18.58 having been gangstalked for decades i view that as dangerous threatening behavior. against talking about a system of organised crime, police involvement, freemasonry possibly or someone masquerading as them. i had to go for a stay at the cosmetic surgery unit at wordsley hospital because my gp chose to leave a disfigurement until i was 'big enough' - not old enough. i think i was nearly 13 so 1976. long story short, some days after the general anesthetic i had to be treated for an 'infection' such as a little girl wouldn't have a clue about (nowhere near the facial surgery). i had received a rude, anonymous get well card in hospital from 'x'. did one of the men in this event work as a hospital porter, was a keen gardener and went on to buy a house opposite a school playground? i've put a file together on this crime and put it with others under the heading 'shit show crimes of police corruption'. That if Carl would have just posted the newspapers he would still be alive today ! just because the couple were old they still would have been able to pick their newspaper up off the floor behind the front door just as they did with their mail ! wether carl was going to the rear of the property to hand the newspaper over personally was probably because he was used to being given some type of treat ! whatever his kind hearted intentions for doing this were ! I've no doubt whatsoever that Spencer committed this Diabolical crime there were just too many coincidences linking him to everything ! r.i.p. Carl ❤🙏

In prison you don’t maintain your innocence the way the Bridgewater 4 did unless there’s some truth to it. I hope Spencer gives Carl’s remaining family some closure and admits his crime .

I 100% agree Spencer did this. You only have to watch his interviews and can see what a nasty piece of work he is. The facts alone mean it can only be him. Agree with what you say mate as well. If you kill someone then you should have your life taken away. Eye for an eye.

Bert knows more than he is letting on but I don't think he killed Carl. I believe Both Bert and Hubert Wilks were in Yew Tree Farm that day probably looking over the antiques they both knew were there. Both knew the old people living there would not be at home. At the time Hubert was an unwell man and was blaming anybody who would listen to him that people were stealing off him ( his two sons for example) and he may well of called on Bert (his employee at the time) to see if some of his "missing antiques" were in the house. Hubert owned guns (they were used as door stops in his house and cartridges were left on window sills as a regular event) and his Landrover was spotted at Yew Tree that afternoon. I think he carried a gun in his Landrover and took it into the house. In walked an unsuspecting Carl and recognised Bert although Bert did not recognise Carl ( they had been near neighbours) and took both men by surprise. I believe Hubert went for his gun ( thinking they would be done for stealing antiques)and it went off killing Carl. Both men left in separate vehicles but subsequently argued about what happened for weeks afterwards. Neither could believe it when the police caught the Bridgewater Four and sentenced them for what happened that night. Hubert thought he had got away with it and bragged to Bert "they" had got away with murder. In David Wilson's programme Spencer said " I am my daddy boy - hurt me and I will hurt you" - the apple does not fall far from the tree - Hubert Wilks constant bragging they had got away with it infuriated Spencer and he paid the price - same ammunition (Eley 5) and same type of gun that killed Carl and same head shot. Spencer shot and killed Wilks out of temper. It would be interesting to hear what Wilks two sons have to say about their father because the sad thing is he would have passed away within 12 months of his premature death anyway due to ill health. The whole horrific event has highlighted how corrupt the police were in the day/how the Bridgewater Four suffered for wrongful imprisonment / Hubert Spencer's involvement and of course poor Carl and his family. Look at it whatever way you want......

How strange that you are doing this video. I can remember coming up from London to visit our family in the 70s and my aunt who died about 6 months ago, to watch a Saturday football match and I can still remember talking about this story with her as it had only just happened. I was the same age as Carl. I was recently trying to remember the name of the lad as it had been such a long time ago.

I don’t understand why this isn’t brought before a court. I’ve seen a couple of cases (check out the McCrae case in Scotland dating back before Carl’s) where convictions have been secured on circumstantial evidence over 45 years old, and what looked like a lot less circumstantial evidence than there is here.

At what point do you stop accusing Bert Spencer of this crime? Does not your judicial system hold a man innocent until proven guilty? David Wilson exhausted the evidence against Bert, and it did not compel the authorities to reopen the investigation. Why doesn't Bert sue? IT COSTS MONEY AND BERT HASN'T ANY! God forbid anyone chose the most obvious and reasonable answer to the question, and not jump on the most sinister and damning. Just so you know, Bert has not made even one penny (I'm from the US) from the Golding book, nor that horrible and astonishingly biased Channel 4 documentary. This crime will NEVER be solved, but that doesn't keep people from using Bert Spencer to advance their careers, soothe morbid curiosities and serve selfish agendas. Carl Bridgewater's murder sickens me and breaks my heart. Seeing a man suffer as if guilty of a crime when he has not be brought before a jury of his peers in a court of law where evidence is subject to scrutiny scares me, as it should for anyone who believes that justice should be executed by our judicial system and not by the anarchy of a mob whipped up by the media and exponentially, social media.

You have some good points, but the fact remains he killed an old man, so he is fair game in my mind and in my ethical code .. it was never my intention to condemn a man... my intention was to look into the case and allow the viewers to decide from the evidence I presented to them, all of which was public knowledge. . If you have a personal connection to burt I am sorry ... but the fact remains he shot a man point blanc in the face. Thanks for sharing your opinion it is valid, as all are here on my channel

@BlackcountryhistoryhunterBCHH We know he done it, mate!! and just the slip ups ,and the old female co-worker wasn't his alibi, she was probably just scared of him,and probably did see him at work that day,but not at the given time. That's only a couple of things, there was plenty more that pointed the finger at him. He guilty as sin,and it's just a shame he'll probably never get tried for it.
